Wow, this worked! For me the controller would work but it would intermittently stop until I unplugged the controller. I looked and that ribbon was slightly pulled out.

Not much of a repair video. More like you got lucky with a disconnected cable. That wont be the fix for most. My ps1 was not recognizing controllers so i watched this youtube video "PS1 Controller Port Fix and Fuse Replacement" by Sunken Canoe Arcade. In this video he has you check you ribbon cable for controller ports. As well as replacing fuse PS605 on main board. This worked for me.
THANK YOU! My SCPH-5501 has a blown fuse. It's in a different location than the model 7XXX in the video you referenced, but the video put me on the right track.
