Yes, you can get most Rit products at Hobby Lobby. Thanks for this tutorial! I have several things that I want to dye navy blue. I’m thinking of putting some black in it, to make sure it’s dark, navy blue. I really appreciate you mentioning not using the pot that you dye in, for cooking. I didn’t not know that! Did you know, that you should wash whatever you’re going to dye, making sure to not use fabric softener in the washer or dryer? I’ve been told, it will make the garment resistant to dyeing. Thanks again, for an informative video. One question-do you keep your burner on simmer, or turn it off, when you start the 30 minutes of stirring? PS-I think your dress looks great.

Thank you so much. Those are some great thoughts and definitely worth noting about the fabric softener. It’s not something I use regularly so I didn’t even think about it. I have actually since switched from doing it in a pot on the stove to a big container in my bathtub with the hottest water in my bathtub faucet can produce, and I have much better results doing it this way because I can have more water and then get a better even dye with more free flowing movement for the fabric but for doing it on the stove top, I would keep it still on a very low heat just to keep the water hot :)

The color coming back & turning blue in air sounds like it was real indigo dye not just a rit dye color called indigo.

Yeah I’m not at all sure what the previous dyer used.. but it definitely sounds possible! Thank you for your input! It was quite surprising 🤣

@@EmmaLarissa It's a really interesting process. Whatever you're dyeing comes out of the dye bath yellow or white then turns blue as it oxidizes. The end color is super pretty with your overdye

How did the linen fabric not shrink in the hot water?

Did the seams of the NPL dress take the dye (ie, do they use cotton or other natural-fiber thread)?

      They use polyester thread
