Thank you for everything you have done for this beautiful community, all the lessons, all the exciting championships, and all of the "Boom, Tetrises for Jonas." Rest In Peace Jonas.
we’ll miss you buddy, always in our hearts, such an inspiration for me and so many others, not just for tetris but just kindness over all, thank you so much
I came here to brush up on my Tetris skills and was really saddened to hear about Jonas’s passing. Way too young to be taken from the world. I always enjoyed watching his streams. Thanks for the good times, Jonas.
Yea same i thought id watch a stream next even though ive just found him i have a deep love for anyone in this community of these legends who keep these old games alive its sad to see someone like this pass may he rest in paradise
might not be the best example, but in Tetris 99 rotating a piece will slightly extend the amount of time before the piece locks, and yes this works for squares too. So, if you need a little bit of extra time you can spam that rotate button with a square and it won't affect piece placement but will give you extra movement frames.
This is the first video I've found that attempts to explain strategy in NES Tetris beyond the absolute basics. And to see you make what would be a good night's best score for me while talking through it...thanks a ton, Jonas. We are not worthy of you.
Only been in the tetris youtube rabbit hole for 2 weeks and can already see the impact this dude had on the community, already doubled my high score on tetris effect connected high score because of his tips and advice, its a fun distraction in my world but he made a name for himself and helped build a community with something be loved, you've got to respect that. First video I saw was the video where he came second in 2018 and handled losing with such grace and dignity, then the next video was aGameScout talking about his passing, that was enough to know how special the guy was. Big respect and love to his family..
Awesome Jonas, thanks for passing some of that Tetris magic on to the little people. Congrats on taking the CTWC once again, I had the pleasure of watching it live this year, boom! I have been playing Tetris since before the NES release first in the arcade and then later on the NES(I actually back then preferred the unlicensed Tengen NES cartridge to the classic NES version.), the Gameboy, PC and a few other platforms, most recently my favorite has been 40 line on Tetris Splash for 360, wherein the goal is to make 40 lines as fast as possible. I'm currently ranked 3103 on the xbox leaderboards with a time of 1 min 35.69 seconds I used to be around rank 1800 but got bumped down a bit over the last couple years. Anyway, I just recently acquired a classic NES cartridge and I was all excited because I have been watching CTWC since I found out about it a couple years ago and I hadn't played that version in a long long time. O...M...F...G.... it's soooo slow and unresponsive... I had forgotten, or maybe just never knew back then how bad it was. I was already very impressed by your talent but re-visiting classic Tetris hands on gave me an even bigger respect. I quickly got entirely frustrated with it and not long after sold it back to the pawn shop I had bought it from but was glad to have the chance to play it again none the less, which brings me to the point of this wordy blathering.... you sir, are a hero to me. keep on slayin at the CTWC man! P.S. do you know if/where I can get a "Boom, Tetris for Jonas!" shirt? cause I would totally rock that.
I’ve played Tetris for years, I think it was on one of those random portable handheld games from the 2000s to start with. The first classic Tetris video I stumbled on was the ctwc finals of 2018 a couple months ago. I honest to god had no idea he passed away and now I’m insanely sad. He is one of the people who inspired me to finally get my own Tetris cart for nes that I just got yesterday. And I came to find tips and tricks to get better at it. May he rip, what a legend.
Welcome to the Tetris community. One of the sad things about losing Jonas was that I don't get to join his Twitch stream and hang out with him. And it's sad that people who are new to Competitve Classic Tetris like you won’t be able meet him.
Good video Jonas. Glad you finally made something like this to get yourself out there. Script you dialog. Many people have many questions and would love to come here and learn and listen. Keep it up homie. Holla!
That first game in the 2017 CTWC against Alex was INSANE!! 7 time tetris champion!... That deed ensures your name to be engraved in the history of tetris.
Thanks for this relaxed video. I started playing classic Tetris on the NES emu after i saw your victory in 2016 agains (BOOM! Tetris for... ) Jeff. My current highscore is 121.xxx at the moment. With this small piece if tips and tricks i am determined to improve my game! Congratz on the 2017 victory btw, just saw the vid, awesome playing!
well, it took me a few days to get used to a new playstyle inspired by this vid, but it is starting to work for me. personal best 128.xxx at the moment, still not impressive, but it's progress :)
Awesome video and advice Jonas, been watching loads of your championship videos. Unbelievable skills (!!) that I wish I had. Tetris was my favorite game back in the days and I still love it. Hi from Finland! Your talent is so damn admirable 👍😊
*-don't split into sections w/ very different heights* -keep rotation axes in mind *-avoid piece dependency* *-don't panic; if misdrop, build arnd holes (don't build right above)* *-slope down to well* -I-pieces favor R, so single wells are always to the R *-center wells are more flexible&efficient*

I started practicing stacking the 4 rows before I cleared lines. Took a while to adjust to doing that. Still learning how to put pieces in the best spots. "you can spin every piece except for the square"
orlly? maybe you are spinning the square and just dont realise it.
Actually I think I remember on the game boy it would make the sound effect of spinning, so I think you're right

Tetris is much harder with a NES-type controller. It's much easier to hypertap with a keyboard (I have some experience with both)
Keep playing and you'll see yourself improve (as your comment is kinda old you have probably already seen this improvement)
