Glad you got it fixed without major work or expense. I have that exact same auger and same 90* drill head. Two questions, there is potential for serious work so why not blow off those leaves etc. to keep dirt from entering shaft housing especially when you are anal about keeping it clean? Also that auger easily comes off so take the thing off so it doesn't interfere with repairs. You should be using the top link pin that came with the tractor instead of pins that don't pit properly. You can google hitch pins and it looks like there are pins that may fit like original or buy one from J.D.
At 53 sec. you are showing a " Lynch Pin " and you have a bad one there which caused the problem. The spring should slam hard against the pin and you can see its lost its tension. Those Lynch Pins are cheap so replace them when they get weak and wire or tie strap them closed when there is possibility of twigs or whatever opening them up. Tractor parts are very expensive or impossible to get for my '84 J.D. 750 so I make sure a $2 Lynch Pin doesn't fall out. Roll pins are easily driven out and installed with Straight ( Pin ) punches not Vice Grips. Anyway, very glad you got it fixed without major expense or serious work. Good job, Thanks for the video and Happy New Year. May 2024 be better.

Thanks for all the great comments. I have to claim laziness for not blowing the debris off the the tractor before working on it. The Rockshaft was up above that junk so I guess it was not high on my priorities.
Why did I not take off the Auger? Again, it was not that obstructive so I just left it on. I have to hang it from a tree when I remove it. Its a pain to get on and off so I just left it and I also have some additional holes to auger.
yes, the top link pin is not the right one. I'm unsure what happed to the original. You are correct the spring tension on that lynch pin is weak.
Thanks for all the feedback and advice. I'm always glad to get it. I'm the first to admit that I can always learn from other. Happy New your to you too.

@@thistlehillfarmstead9131 Those augers are a pain. My Dad had a wood cradle on steel wheels to store it but I didn't keep it. So I take auger off, then pto, gear box, boom then 3pt. yoke. Only takes a few minutes to put it in the shed. A tree is easier for sure. I'll be using it less now that my neighbor has a Montana Post Driver 750 R for his skid loader to drive post in easily. Works great but darn expensive. Redoing some of my cow pasture with new wood post corners right now. I knew you would get the tractor fixed just fine and you did. We always have lessons to learn and fortunatly that wasn't an expensive one.
