I bought 1 of these for 5 bucks at a yard sale changed the carburetor and fuel lines started up like a beast used it next day and started boggin I never adjusted the carburetor now I’m waiting for that tool and just in case a whole new kit #2 for 15 bucks
Thanks for the video. I replaced the carb, and still had my issue. Just like yours. Mine would just die for no reason. Come to find out. It was a bad kill switch.
You know it's cold as F when the air hose stays coiled after removing from reel. You're a trooper. Sending you some sunshine from sunny Sacramento, Ca. Your video was very helpful.
Love the Leatherman Wave. Picked up free 125B and replaced the carb, fuel lines, coil that was bad and fixed broken shut off wire. Still it seems to not rev as high as I think it should. I imagine it whining up like my chain saws.
Leatherman makes the best tools in my opinion everyone should have one. Don’t expect that little handheld blower to very high big fan with no gear reduction. Don’t expect it to like a chainsaw.
Thank you! I’m a mechanic. But you sir, have an amazing talent. I wish I could fix my own small engines and power equipment! I can learn a lot from you! Thanks again
Hi Danial. I shot a video of the truck layout. If you can send me a private message or an email alongsideservice@gmail.com I will send the unlisted video link to you for your viewing.
This video showed me that this something I can’t do myself, seem like u have to have knack for it with all that testing and adjusting. I wouldn’t know what’s perfect rpm
Hi. I'm kinda want to do it right as I got this bv blower running. And got it blowing good. Not bog down anyways. Its close but not sure I'm actually adjust fuel air correct. I'm guessing.
Hi Mark, you’re obviously very skilled at what you do. I might suggest one thing,. Sometimes it is more important to know “the why” not just “the how”. If you could just explain why you’re doing something, that is only gained with experience, it might make things just a little bit clearer to the viewer. I assume that’s why you made this video is to pass on your knowledge. Thanks a lot.
It’s almost always due to bad or old gas. The tiny passages in the carburetor start to clog. Adjusting the needle jets adjusts for this and restores performance. Spark plug gap and air filter cleanliness also contribute to poor running and should always be addressed before adjusting carburetors.
Put a whole new carb and lines on mine and it runs like crap - worse than before with the old carb. Bogs down and backfires. I am at 5000' and wondering if the new carb is set to sea level and needs to be adjusted to make it run correctly?
Question for Alongside Service: For 10 years, every fall I've used an Echo PB 500 backpack to clean a lot of oak leaves out of a large area of ground cover(ivy, pachysandra). Six years ago, I began putting dear netting over top of the ground cover in the fall which makes it much easier to clean the leaves and helps to not strip the leaves off of the ground cover itself when cleaning. I'm looking to get a hand held leaf blower to help. I've read the Echo 2520 takes at least 3 minutes to get up to full speed(which is no good in the quick "blow and go" situations of the spring and summer). Searches on RUclips seems to show the Husqvarna 125B has fuel line/carburetor issues. I'm looking for a hand held blower that 1) requires minimal time to warmup, 2) has good blowing power 3) doesn't have repair/fuel line issues(I ONLY use ethanol-free gas) 4) I'm willing to pay the extra money to get such a blower. The one I'm leaning toward the Husqvarna 525BX. With all your repair experience, what would you recommend to me? Many thanks. :-)
The Husqvarna handheld is a very popular little unit. Just remember to drain fuel and run dry when not using for extended periods of time and you’ll have minimal issues. -Mark C.
Thank you. I'm planning to get the Husqvarna 525BX. 1) When you say "not using for extended periods of time," how long is that? 2) Do you say that because the problems cause by ethanol fuel? 2) Does that time period to "drain fuel and run dry" also apply to ethanol-free gas?
KeepItSimple I would recommend 1 month on gas with ethanol period. I would still dump and run dry non-ethanol fuel to be safe, but that’s just me. Mainly the ethanol is a problem but small equipment have small carburetors with small passages that clog up easily when gas gets stale. Do yourself a favor and be extra vigilant with small engine gasoline.
I will upload a video of my work truck layout at some point. Waiting for a few more requests before I shoot that video. The carburetor tools can be found on Amazon. Search for carburetor adjustment tool kit. Usually a minor slight turn adjustment is all that is needed. Usually counterclockwise but not always.. if you can get it started and it idles but when you hit the throttle it bogs out you will want to adjust the high speed jet until you achieve maximum rpm. Same with low speed. Let it idle and adjust the low speed jet until you achieve the max idle rpm. If you have no idea if the jet adjustments are even close you can usually find a baseline adjustment by searching google for that machines carburetor jet adjustment. Most of the time it is how many turns out after turning in till it lightly bottoms out.. Quite often I count the turns in till it lightly bottoms out, then unscrew the jet needle all the way to clean it and then back in. Good luck.
Thank you for the great video. I replaced the carburetor on my unit. Been trying the H / L jet adjustment. What is the recommended turns to back out. Thank you
ROBERT TRAVALENT at 23:40 I mentioned the jet adjustment that worked for me. The high speed jet needle was all the way in lightly and back out 1-3/4 turn and the low speed needle was backed out 2-1/4 turns
I shot a video of the truck layout. If you can send me a private message or an email alongsideservice@gmail.com I will send the unlisted video link to you for your viewing.
I got a question. I placed a new carburetor on the same one you got. New fuel lines. It fires and runs but within a few minutes it bogs down when you press the throttle then dies
Fuel lines backwards, carb defective, bad gasket jets not adjusted properly, bad fuel or mixture. Any number of things. Start eliminating the simple possibilities.
The screw adjustment on the left is for HIGH and the right side screw LOW. Which do you adjust first because I noticed you mostly made adjustment to LOW not HIGH. Also I saw you making minor adjustment on top. What was that for? Thanks.
Usually setting the high speed first is best. Throttle wide open, adjust for max RPM. Then low speed adjust for max RPM. You may have to do this a few times because sometimes one affects the other.
These carbs are impossible to adjust, spent weeks on mine and no luck, either it runs smooth and throttle and cant idle or it starts and bogs out after a few seconds
How do you know which carburetor adjustment tool to use? The kits one can buy have multiple adjustment tools, which one did you use for the Husqvarna 125B jet adjustments?
You sure did cover a lot of stuff in this video but I was getting a little dizzy following you around with that camera! Is there another way to back out those adjustments screws on that Husqvarna other than having to buy that special tool?
It will require a special tool. Cheap enough on Amazon vs. trying to make a tool. I’ve used a gutted pen once before in a pinch but nothing like the proper tool for the job. Sorry about the dizziness. I’ll keep that in mind on future videos.
The cheap carbs on these are a pain in the arse if you’re not used to tuning. They also have to be adjusted constantly depending on the temp. They will run better and cooler if you bypass the cat muffler.
I have this model as well. Was handed me by a friend who could get no use of it. Motor will start fully choked, then next setting up which is partially choked, she'll run in that. But she won't run with the choke off entirely. So I can't get to a point where I can actually make any adjustments on the high and low speed idle because it won't run long enough for me to make them. Any ideas? Thanks. Great video, btw.
Sometimes you can google search the compression values but typically I would expect at least 75psi. Part of my 2-stroke service routine is to remove, clean and gap the spark plug. Then look in the cylinder if you can see the walls see if the cylinder is really gouged. THEN I put a finger tightly covering the spark plug hole and give a tug on the pull cord. You should get a good “pfft” as you do this. A sign of loss of compression is really poor starting but still runs if you can get it started.

It’s completely possible that you would have to adjust a brand new carb because of the elevation. Sounds like it’s running lean.

How far you turn the gas adjustment?
The low jet turn either way till you get max idle RPM. The high jet tun until you get max full throttle RPM.
Usually it’s less than a full turn.
Ok. Both mine are all the way in. Now I got to chase both. Needed new carb
Yes, show truck lay out. Please comment on the two adjustments and how to go about it. Can the splin tool be purchased at local auto store?

Amazon

@@alongsideservice3178 I swapped the lines. Now it squirts fuel when I prime it. Brand new fuel line. Still having issues.
When you prime it fuel should be drawn through the filter and then squirt/ return to the fuel tank though the other fuel line.

That final adjustment on both high & low is how I cured mine too stop bogging down
How do you know which carburetor adjustment tool to use? The kits one can buy have multiple adjustment tools, which one did you use for the Husqvarna 125B jet adjustments?
You’re right there are a lot of different tools specific to different carburetors. I believe the Husqvarna was just a thin small screwdriver however.
So which one is the high speed and which is the low speed jet?
Usually there is an H and an L stamped on the carburetor or somewhere around the carburetor on the cowling.
The high will be on air filter side and the low will be on engine side.
you may have adjusted the carburetor, but I could not hear over the blower, to bad
If you can adjust the low needle to the highest rpm and then full throttle highest smoothest rpm

I was wondering when you were going to adjust the low speed correctly. It was too rich on the low making it stumble and not want to idle.
The cheap carbs on these are a pain in the arse if you’re not used to tuning. They also have to be adjusted constantly depending on the temp. They will run better and cooler if you bypass the cat muffler.

Turn the high speed jet 1/8 turn counterclockwise and try again. If worse go back 1/8 turn and then go 1/8 turn clockwise and try again.
Carburetor is loose 125b is notorious for that.
So what was the problem?..spark plug or carb adjustment?
Both.
what is the compression value?
Sometimes you can google search the compression values but typically I would expect at least 75psi. Part of my 2-stroke service routine is to remove, clean and gap the spark plug.
