- An appreciation of the art of the reload in the John Wick films, and the fact that the guns do not have infinite bullets.
Yes, I know some of these are not technically reloads, but I wanted to include them anyway :P

So I just moved my channel to a brand account and unfortunately my own comments don't get carried over, so if it now looks like I haven't been responding to anyone that's why. I addressed a few questions in the now-deleted comments, so let me just summarize:
The reason for making this video was that I got the idea and wanted to do it as a little editing experiment, with the Vivaldi piece that is featured so prominently in John Wick 3 (and its trailer). I cut out all the sound effects in favor of the music, because leaving in the gunshot and reload sounds also meant leaving in the screaming, yelling, pulsing club music, wheel screeching, etc. that is also in the same action scenes. I looked at it as a creative project, rather than a simple reload counter (which is why there is no on-screen reload counter).
Yes, I know not everything in this video technically qualifies as a "reload," but I wanted to include them anyway.
A commenter pointed out that this video is NOT, in fact, EVERY reload in John Wick. I missed one that happens in the final action scene of John Wick 1. Sorry!
The only thing missing is the sound of the reloads. I know it's a considerable amount of work, but you Could do fade-in-fade-out transitions for the reloading sound effects( i.e sound effects volume slowly increases -> reload sound effect -> sound effects volume slowly decreases) and also have the Vivaldi streaming in. I'm not going to request for you to time the reload sounds to the Vivaldi melody, cause that really is a ridiculous amount of work.
i realize it's kind of randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to watch new tv shows online?
@Zayd Julian I watch on flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Zayd Layton Yea, been using flixzone for since april myself :D
@Zayd Layton thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I really appreciate it !!

Typically it’s best u put the magazine back in ur pouch rather than throwing it away. But hey, it looks cool
@@theretarbconsultant5469 sometimes you don’t got time for that
@@KampucheanDemon now thinking about it, I could see why he did it
@@theretarbconsultant5469 due to what’s going on, saving the mag isn’t the best course of action. You can always pick up the enemy’s weapon and use it if you’re out of ammo. Which does happen here in John Wick
@@Apollo5752353 i never seen john wick pick up enemy gun
The filmmakers have talked about how they plan out action scenes with John's bullet count in mind, so that when John is engaged in a gunfight with multiple enemies, the action lays out how John is being efficient with his shots, thinking about when he needs to either reload or needing to grab someone else's weapon. It really comes through in the firefights that John is thinking moves ahead even under fire, which is one of the many reasons theyre so spectacular. It's not just characters standing around blindly firing, there's purpose in its action and movement.
Agreed. Also the bulletproof suit was a good idea
Until the 4th movie at least.
Well not always, they kinda forgot sometimes, but all good for the sake of entertainment really.

Chef kiss for that scene
Fun fact: The rapid reloading of the shotgun in John Wick 3 is called quad loading and is mostly used by competitive shooters. It is also my favorite type of reload. Tactically, the loading style in Chapter 2 where shells are loaded in singles is much more common, demonstrating John's extreme prowess as a shooter even among other professional killers. John Wick is truly the Baba Yaga.
And I thought I was somekind of badass when I figured this out for myself with my first pump shotgun I ever owned!
No. He is the man you send to kill the baba yaga
It seemed like dual loads to me, but hard to make out with his shot shell carrier. Either way tho based
I wish I could re load that fast, even with my speed loader I only have a 10 round mag.
Some day I would love to do competitive shooting.
1:29 it kinda looks like he's playing the violin

I know dude! nobody is giving that any love, I know it's flashy and not necessary really (Unless your other hand or something has been blown off). It is him really doing that and that is really fucking cool.
Something they noted Kimber model barrels tend to lock up. The production noted it & had Keanu also train to prepare for that to showcase. Yeah, it looks a bit flashy & pointless. But if it were IRL & the lockup occurs; You'll have JW2 to remember how to check for the next time.

Haha. It has been spectacular even in 80s action.🎉🎉
Please also appreciate that he checks the chamber after reloading depending on the reliability of the gun he uses.
2:17 that's my jam
Mine tooo...
Lmao
I absolutely love the detail in these movies when it comes to guns, the realism and attention to the small details is incredible.
I love how he doesn't have infinte ammo that ends just when he fights the main villain or their bodyguard just for a hand to hand combat....Also, all the reload timings are precise
The tactical shotgun reloads are the most impressive IMO. Like damn he is just in another league as an actor. He also takes mags from dead enemies; like why does this not happen in any other movies
Reeves is a competitive shooter and thus knows how guns work
I like how the choreographers factor in John Wick to do tactical reloads, that is, removing a partially used mag from the pistol to put in a full mag, and then storing the partially used mag away for use later before entering into an area of anticipated firefight
Can let my eyes fall out dry and still watch this again and again
the entire scene in JW3 with the shotgun is amazing. quad loading like a beast
I love the way he checks every time to make sure one is in the chamber
You can tell a lot of work and training has gone into those reloads. Even better than Kilmer in Heat.
Michael Mann is master. Chad Stalhelski is apprentice. Haha. Both deserves the moniker first director ever 2 shoot all grounded action sequences.
charon reloading his shotgun and then pushing up his glasses is so good i love all the little details in these movies
In theater i was we all laughed at the situation not him
The tunnel shout-out in the second movie is by far my favorite gungasm scenes in cinema history. They way he reloads the shotgun while also having an emergency pellet ready to go when he is empty is just so gooooooodd!!
By the way I am waiting for Combat Master to be released as an airsoft gun. It's an instant buy even though I already own 3 Glock airsoft pistols. Hands down my favorite looking pistol...!
You have to wonder if Keanu suffered a lot of muscle cramps from re-taking a reload scene.
this puts into context to me how hard a lengthy shoot out would actually be on top of avoiding wounds and actually being a good shot. Looks exhuasting or the better word might be tedious(or both)
I love how Keanu learned the quad load for the shotgun between movies 2 and 3
When you playing Airsoft with only a pistol and wears a suit with a bulletproof bb vest.
Makes no sense as I play airsoft and you are out with one bb
And I’ve made all the jw guns and including the mpx with a 3D printed shell
I think its interesting that sometimes the guns don't lock on an empty mag, probably due to blanks having enough powder to cycle the guns but not enough pressure to send the slide all the way back. Also kinda funny that in John Wick 1 you can see the blank cartridges in the mag when he's using the AR-15
Or due to his hand position he rode the slide lock.
I've asked competitive shooters about this and many prefer that their guns *don't* lock back when empty, or modify them so. Apparently they simply get used to racking the slide to ensure a round is loaded, and not having to fumble for the release lever lets you retain a better grip with your main hand. Plus it's consistent with mid-mag changes, so your reloading method doesn't change. Additionally, it can prevent the weapon from holding slide open with rounds still in the mag.
I like this part 1:34 because John Wick is holding the shotgun similar to how a violin is held while violin music is being played in the background.
me: who wants gun.
John wick: present sir.
More like Pencil 😅
I need the sounds of reloading as well
The one-handed press check at 2:19 is absolutely clean.
The amor piercing bullets reload in the Continental massacre is just extraordinary
Keanu is a very well trained in all kinds of Guns, And his shooting skills was amazing even in real life.
Ong
The scene at 3:08 had me dying out loud when I watched it 🤣🤣🤣
Another great thing about the Wick films and reloads is that they aren't over used as fuck, just enough to show he knows what he's doing and at just the right time for the tacti-kewl AF moments, everything in the Wick films is paced soooooo great
Reeves is an amazing actor. He takes his craft to unspeakable levels. There are training videos of him 1000s hours and practice to do these movers. Even back in the Matrix days..spend hours and days practicing martial arts. He REALLY knows Kung Fu.
theres no way you did a reload video without audio, thats literally the most satisfying part
Press check at @2:20 is epic! Love the way Keanu trained a true professional 👌
Best tactical reloads ever
Mann, seeing every reload again shows we love john.
This is what give John Wick an advantages for a good action film.
He actually reloads the gun and the bullet count is accurate.
Love seeing him quad load the Benelli. (It was a Benelli in JW3 right?)
Reloading can be used to great effect in films. They can add tension or break up the action. Lots of movies do a disservice by not having them.
The funny thing is how in JW2 he is single thumb loading and in JW3 he is quad loading like a pro and these movies take place within a short period of each other. That is about the ONLY unrealistic thing here lol
I wouldn't call that unrealistic, @@BricksNJitzz
It's never indicated how long John left his old life in the Continental behind for; one could see that as Wick having to re-hone his skills, or simply them coming back to him in a short period of time.
@Danny Young he had better gear to properly conduct quad loads in JW3, it's not really practical to quad load without special gear like they had there and then.
You can tell Keanu's trained with the right people.
4:10 wether we wanted it or not, weve stepped into a war with the invaders in our hotel, so lets get down to taking them out one by one. The invaders, from what I can gather, they are heavily armored and well trained but with the right firepower and John Wick we can punch through their armor and break their grip on hotel.
Gotta say, reloading in front of Ares using magazines from inside her jacket and then refusing to kill her is BM as hell.
It was kind of her to save her bullets for John Wick
BM?
@@emiliodelbozo3155 bad manners
Basically humiliating a person just because you can.
I really think they wasted a lot of potential having John assemble a vintage revolver from museum scraps and only fire it once. Seeing him take out multiple assailants with that thing western style would've been so cool!
but seeing him desperate looking for weapon is great to hahaha.
Late rep, but Wick was frankenstein-ing a gun from as you said, museum scrap, it's already a miracle that it shot straight once rather than exploding in Wick's hand
Nope, I think you missed the point of the scene. For me, it was to show that the character of John Wick is such a perfectionist that he would rather pick a vintage revolver, assemble it to working order under pressure, and fire it once rather than look for the next polymer 21 round monstrosity. This kind of thinking, even on pain of death, appeals to the purist in many weapons enthusiasts.
@@thuannghia1212 - That scene had so much call back vibe to the scene in Good, Bad, and the Ugly. Would have loved watching him smoke a bunch of goons with that iron.
2:17 proud to say I have mastered this one. Loved it from the moment I watched the movie.
John Wick is like the doom guy
When he's in a shootout he doesn't see enemies, he sees walking ammo packs
I came here to reload but stayed for this beautiful music.
1:37 was the most disrespectful reload I’ve seen in my life
Something about this reloading properly in movies often feels like a unicorn; so pronounced when seen but often rarely found
The quad loading of the shotgun and the one handed press check on the Kimber 45 are my favorites.
I knew IMMEDIATELY what the popular "most replayed" would be. That one handed press check
John wick 1: time to reload my life
John wick 2: time to reload my guns
John wick 3: *ALREADY RELOADING MORE GUNS*
somehow the perfect song choices for this
The amount of training he does for his movies is unbelievable. Like he can actually run a gun course like you would not believe...
Love how it looks like he's playing a violin while reloading at 1:28. John Wick is a Maestro. Violence is his music, and the gun is his instrument.
Thank you. Vivaldi was also a most appropriate accompanying score.
2:15 - 2:21 and 4:40 - 4:51 for me, some of the best and badass reloads of the super assassin!!! 🇵🇭

When we only Watch for reloading it is easy to understand how technical they worked on movies. Perfect effort for John Wick and for you 👏
Just something so damn satisfying about reloads in JW films. Fav; JW 2 - When he goes through Santino's entourage in the first half of the sequence. The one hand check on the reload... 😚👌🏼
I love the mag flick when reloading and when he checks the chamber by pulling the slide back.
Possibly the only action film series wherein the reloads are as satisfying as the shots. Only John Wick could have an entire sequence based around disassembling and reassembling an antique pistol just to end the resulting shootout in a single shot. Reloads are treated as part of the combat, especially when they get interrupted and John has to do some BJJ moves to create space to finish a reload and confirm the kill. Everything he does has the goal of ending someone with a bullet, even when it seems like he's just being flashy. No wasted actions. Action choreography perfected.
He's more impressive than John Wick. John Wick is already John Wick. Keaneu had to BECOME John Wick. After already learning Robot Kung-Fu to save us all from the machines.
Splendid combination, Vivaldi and guns.
They made John Wick nearly superhuman but then made the reload his weakness. He can get shot, stabbed, hit by cars, etc. But he can also run out of ammo.
They used something that other films try to avoid, finite ammo, and made it into something that adds tension
of course the overhand one handed press check (2:20) with his 1911 is legendary...
“Remember, switching to your pistol is always faster than reloading”.
