He must have performed everywhere. He even sang at the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls) in 1978 or so, I think. I wish I had the chance to see him. He was a legend.
I'm an Octogenarian, and lived my whole life listening to this man, and Watching him on TV and in Movies. and even in Christmas Cartoons. (Frosty the Snowman to name one) always loved his humor, wit, and intelligence. they don't make em like that anymore. God speed Burls and thanks for a lifetime of Joy. ECF
I don't think they were underrated. Both were hugely popuplar, and still is well remembered. In the 1990s a CD collection of Burl's songs was awarded a platinum disc for good record sales here in Norway.
@@vickyschnorbus4166 Amazing entertainers, not just singers, both very accomplished storytellers. Oh and Roger Whittaker was one of the all time great Whistlers as well.
I’m 73. I was introduced to Burl Ives about 70 years ago through my father’s 78s which were in a multi jacket collection with a photo of Ives in his army uniform on the cover. I come from a family of singers. I learned all these songs by singing along with Burl Ives. I still know them from memory. A very important part of my education and development. Thanks Dad.
This man is a true legend! I have been fortunate to have lived in his life span! He has always fascinated me. He is an entertainer, as good as there is!
Very distinguished voice! And grew up listening to it! It’s one that won’t leave you if you hear it you will know exactly who it is! Very fitting tribute!
He was in "Sierra" with Audie Murphy. You heard his voice before you saw him. Miss him! His singing is what makes me happy to see "Rudolph" every year!
True testimony to why Burl is called The Great American Balladeer!! What a phenomenal performance…In classic Burl fashion he does a sing-a-long, but with a full on Orchestra as back-up!!!
Happy Happy Joy Joy He is the voice of America...the sweetest most pleasant man, wonderful lyrics, I wish I could go back in time and see him perform again
Well done Burl Ives, I have listened to you alot in my day, I am 74 I still play my guitar. my Grandchildren have never heard me, the kids are 15 years old now...great entertainment...
This is what I listen to when I was a kid. Where did this kind of music go ?? As for me the radio just broadcast sewage today. Just saying.. Thanks a million for the fantastic post.
This kind of music and related styles are played all the time, but the media don't care to broadcast it. Not considered commercial enough I guess. He returned for a show of his own later. This was part of the Op' Sail 1978 show. Great stuff.
My dad was a big fan of Burl Ives. I remember him playing his records when I was a child in the 1950's. I remember too, him singing The Big Rock Candy Mountain on a children's wireless programme. Then "The Big Country" great film and the shoot out in Blanco Canyon. He was such a presence in that film. I loved his style of singing and a such a good actor. So talented and natural effortless style. I remember all these songs. Children loved these. Oh! And The Big Rock Candy Mountain and Therecwas an Old Lady. Omg they're all coming back. Thank you Burl and for this being posted. Wish my dad was here to see it! I've always found Burl Ives underrated. Hope more can be posted on RUclips. Hard to believe! Living on the farm in Central North Dakota 1960 to 1963..its was the worst of times! Unbelievable snow storms each year! Listening to Burl was like listening to you coach! It's going to be ok! He had a heart of Gold, the words from my mother. I thank God for all he did to make people's lives better. Time.time..time will never let memories of life let you down. Fight! To keep them close to your heart. Amen...😊 Frossty the snowman now makes me cry at 70...what a wonderful man. 😢

I don't think he voiced in Frosty, but he was the snow man in Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. Merry 🎄
Nice comment. Same here for memories from another octogenarian. Simpler times, more trust , more belief in ‘the commons’.

Two of the most underrated singers were Burl Ives and Roger Whittaker! What an absolute treat this was!!
We completely agree with you 😀🎸
We love them so they live on

My Dad said that he served in WWII with Burl Ives. Pop said that Ives would sing old, dirty folk songs!
He probably knew over 10,000 limericks and songs….
It would never be Christmas without Burl Ives.
What a marvelous entertainer, I'm in my early seventies and have had the fortune of listening to this man for many decades.
