  • Arginine is needed for cardiovascular health as well as growth and repair, but many wonder if they should avoid arginine if they suffer from cold sores. Lysine is an amino acid that offsets the effects of arginine. On this episode of Live Foreverish, Drs. Mike and Crystal discuss the arginine-herpes connection, foods high in arginine, and the role of lysine and cold sores.

Great content!! Yes! Supplementation all the time works. Specially more when stressful times. Lack of sleep, poor diet etc. My little one it’s 8 yr and we are managing with daily lysine 2000mg and magnesium in water. The outbreak for her are during the night, so each morning I have check her mouth once awake. She continues with abreva cream and lysine at school. It’s tough but I notice once we forget about lysine one outbreak starts.. sucks. She is little. I had the fires often in the past, not much in the last three years. My husband doesn’t show sores but I’m sure he might have the virus - abreva and lysine several times a day.

Beets are very high in oxalates, no thank you

Hi, we understand your concern regarding the oxalate content in beets. Based on our review of the literature, it’s not just the amount that matters but also how well particular oxalates are absorbed, and the bioavailability of oxalates in beets is relatively poor (6 times less so than spinach, for example). Also, cooking the beets could cut levels about 25%. However, for individuals diagnosed with a medical condition we would encourage working with a healthcare provider to best meet health needs.
