This is why I had to “separate” the two systems. All appointments go in both BUT my daily is for my actual daily to-dos!

That's exactly what I do. Except that I don't put appointments in both. It's appointments in one and to-dos in the other.

My daily is my to-do list, as well. I could not find planner peace because I had no where to write down all my "junk." I have a to-do list 7 days a week: things I have to do, remember, etc. The daily saves me! My LP is just a large overview of my everything I have "time-wise" (appointments, work, etc).

I think that the daily folio would be good for you to set up each evening for the next day from your life planner so that you can take your daily with you out and about. I think I remember one time...years ago, you mentioning that you do not take your life planner out of the house. If this is still the case, at least you can have your errands and to dos portable in the daily???? Just a thought :) love your videos, makes us feel like we are not alone in our planner system ruts as well.

Thanks for being real, I have struggled with the same exact issues. You are not alone. I stopped using the monthly calender in the daily for that reason except for unexpected things that popped up while out, since I care daily in my purse. Then I plugged then into my lifeplanner when I get home. 😉👍🤗

This is an important thing to share - viewers tend to think we are perfect and have everything under control, when we only share the good stuff. I have one main planner, which is always a Bullet Journal kind of thing - even if it is in a preprinted planner. In this one book I find all my appointments and to dos. If my house would burn down, this is the one I would grab. But I also use a small planner for on the go for appointments and all things to do out of the house. And since July I have an Hourly Erin Condren as an overview of my day, which helps me to see how much time I actually have left and which tasks I have to prioritize for the day - because my to do lists are always a mile long. But when I see there is only an hour left besides working and teaching, I have to pick the one task that is really important. That's working for me since almost 6 months now.
I am a multi planner user by heart, but that's not for everybody! So, don't beat yourself up because a pretty planner is not working for you!

I use my LP to plan for the week (usually on Sundays) and then each night I look at it to plan my next day in my PetitePlanner. I keep my LP at home and take my on-the-go folio with me everywhere. It’s been working great for me!

Hi Jen! Great video - loved watching how your petites and hourly ECLP work together. I live out of my hourly, but I have an undated petite which I use for task-heavy days (which happen to be the weekends usually). It gives me flexibility to organize by time or by task group on days I need extra space.

I’m an hourly girl and about to start Mat Leave for 18 months next week and have the petites and hourly LP for 2020 and this actually helped me. I’ll be taking my petites with me everywhere (2 quarters), a monthly, and a lined journal for brain dumps on the go. My LP will stay at home with every detail in it and more memory planning most likely, with milestones for my new lil baby.
I definitely appreciate how daily dumps will help in the petites and how you used those. 😊

Great video. You actually hit your solution on the head. Write everything in your LifePlanner and then on the days that you need it ise the daily to have a more targeted, clear view of the days requirements. If I don't use a particular day in my daily i make it into a list or nit section or something else so the space isn't wasted. If i have no need for it at all then that is okay too. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Use what you need when you need it and that's it.

This is exactly why I ended up putting my folio away. I got sucked into the hype but it just didn't work for me. I add in a simple notebook if I need an extra list but that's about it anymore. My brain just works better with one central planner for everything! (I don't budget at this point so that's always a new adventure, I guess!)

This isn’t a weird video at all! I struggle with pairing the coiled LP and OTG folio too! For now, I’ve decided to use the LP as my main scheduler... and use the petite planners simply for notes, side biz planning and content calendars. I was just getting overwhelmed by writing out the same events and appointments 2-3 times. So now my rule is that the content can’t duplicate between the two systems... we’ll see!

I spent all of 2019 trying out different planners and felt just like this for most it!! Here’s how I’m hoping to solve it for 2020: A5 softbound focused planner for everything scheduled. It has the whole year, is fairly small so it fits in my purse. Beautiful. Each week I will take the appointments from the A5 and put them in my bigger weekly planner, I ordered a Golden Coil and really hope it works as well as I’m imagining it. I customized the layout so fingers crossed!! It has a lot of space for to do lists and I added lined pages after each week for extra notes (probably for work). bottom line: great video!

Not a weird video! A lot of us planners go through this often, because they come out with so many options. I think this video actually helped you come to a conclusion. I think all planning/ scheduling goes in LP and then each morning you can break down your day further in the petite. It’s nice having something portable with you to keep you on track for that day.

I love that you made a video of what is working and what isn't, rather than waiting until you have perfected your system. I feel like planner needs are ever-evolving, and it is just reality that we may hit a rut where our method is just not working with life at the moment. If anything, I love that you share what works and what doesn't, and WHY, because it often helps spare me a mistake or two and having to learn the hard way! (I would be upset too, to find that I had missed a parent teacher conference!) Totally agree also with the planners luring you in looking all pretty and new! 😂 I just love your videos, they are so relaxing to watch. Keep them coming, even if you're worried you are rambling (you aren't!).

I had the same problem as you when trying to use the deluxe monthly and weekly life planner - I really don't need day to day and prefer a monthly over view so I ended up sticking with the monthly. I feel like whenever I try to use multiple planners I always end up forgetting things or feeling overwhelmed with not knowing where to log what. Now I'm back to just using the deluxe monthly and I'm much happier for it.

I'm only using the petite planners right now. I love love them. I don't know how some people make two planners that have the same content work. That's a super power I don't have. I toyed with the idea of having a weekly that was for all the big things and then keeping my daily more check list oriented, but that sounds like it'll make my planning work vs pleasure with having to juggle systems. I'm all for sticking with what works. I broke up with my LP earlier this year and was just floundering about with post it note to do lists and my calendar on my phone until I decided to try the petites. Good luck! Don't overcomplicate it, go with the planner peace choice!

This was a great video! We have shared planner struggles. I definitely struggle with centering all my stuff in one place. I used to keep separate planners for work and school and personal - as well as online or on paper! And the end result is just as chaotic. I hate the feeling of things falling through the cracks, especially when you have already put in the time to plan and write it down. So I feel you, sister! The only solution is to streamline everything from the same place.

I use the LP at home as a summary of everything that’s is happening or I need to do. I use the petite planner (just one book, no folio cover in my hand bag) for things in more detail. Basically I use the petite as a dated notebook. That’s how I look at it. Eg: as I put appointments (doctor, kids stuff, garbage day) in my LP I add it to my petite. If it’s grocery day there is a sticker in my LP but in my petite I’ll write the list of things I need at the supermarket. Or if I have a bbq to go to it’s on one line in my LP but in my petite I’ll write the details of what I need to buy or take. 😀

    @sarahschneider8659 4 года назад +2

I totally see what the problem is in keeping things in different places. You have to figure out the system that works best for you. I’m switching to the daily folio system because I took mental stock of what I really need, which is the ability to have a lot of place to figure out the details of my day in one place. I’m a mom and a full-time lawyer, so the life planner wasn’t giving me enough space to really get detailed about my days. I also needed a way to keep all of the extra stuff in one place so I’m not toting a bunch of planners around. Currently my folio has two of the quarterly daily layouts, a notebook, and the budget petite planner.

I used a daily hard bound life planner for my daily journal. I’m sad they discontinued them, but I’m thinking the petite planner would be a good one to use. I write a few specific things for each day and jot down a few hilights on my monthly layouts. It’s so fun to go back and look at what we did all year. 😊

Very helpful because I have been working on integrating two planners
    Both are work planners
Separate from my long term EC Life planner
    Please no need to apologize!
What I’m working to learn with the work planners is whether I want a fixed length EC monthly deluxe or a large Happy Planner with its removable pages
    Or both
And yup How much duplication of content

OMG Jen!!!! Its like you took words out of my brain!!!! I want to use a daily but have the hourly weekly layout and don’t want to do both. So for January, I am going to transition to EC monthly and daily simplified planner. I will use the note pages of the hourly to jot down tasks. I also don’t need a daily planner everyday but there are lots of days that I do. We shall see....I forgot to say that I am planning to re-coil that monthly using a smaller coil for portability. I do have the monthly petite but the boxes are just too small for me. 😂.

Exact thing happened to me. I think when they got rid of the half hours I felt like I didn't have enough space and thought the daily would help with the details. I also feel out of sorts now with both and things areeither redundant now or completely missed like you experienced. I lost my planner peace and I'm trying to go back to it, but it is really hard without the half hours to get that back.I'm going to an undated daily now to just use for days when I need or have a lot of things to do, and that way I won't feel like I am wasting those pages.I don't know yet if the hourly without the half hours will take me back to planner piece that I had previously, but I will try again and see how it goes. Thank you for sharing, good to know I'm not the only one!

I use both systems like you however my LP is an overview of my week and my to do list. In the Petite Planner, my daily us actually the stuff I did get done. There were so many times I would make a list of things that needed to get done on a certain day and then life happened and then they would be moved to the next day. So now I have a main list and an overview of of the week and then daily I note what I had done. Also I write shopping lists and errand lists in the Petite Planner, clip the planner to a clipboard and take it with me during errands. The LP sits on my desk and is always open for a quick glance.

You are not alone in your quest to decide whether a full or daily planner is right for you... Lots of the top planner RUclips hosts are struggling. You do have to write things down while away from your main planner to remember to add these events. I think the simplest version of a daily is called, and has evolved from, a memo book. And the true to-do list, of which I am a fan. I do like many of the other components of the EC folio. And that's why we have choices! ;-)

I finally found planner peace with the erin Condren vertical. My head would hurt with all the planners out there and trying to figure out what would work. I tried the hourly but it just didn’t work for my life. Maybe later on when my son starts school. I realize that the vertical is working for me so why change it. I also got the daily but using it as a fitness tracker. Just noting down what I ate, workouts, weight, measurements and habits :)

My LF is my home/work BUT the petite has become my daily work tasks and stays on my desk at work until Friday. Over the weekend I make sure all the new sticky notes are in both if needed. I ran into the same issues with trying to use the petite for caregiving medical- I never seem to remember to put things in it and will need to go back to the perpetual

Not weird at all. I have the same struggle. I tried the petite as well, but it's not working out. I think I'm just gonna use the specialized ones (meals, self care, checklists etc)

I use my on the go folio but only have my budget wellness and checklist in it. I use the checklist as a habit tracker, and the wellness/budget as is. My LP is for my main planning. Sometimes too much of a good thing makes your brain hurt!😀

I wish they would make a planner with monthly, weekly and daily spreads all included. 7 daily spreads could follow after each week!! The daily spreads could be a bit shorter in width so you could find the weeks easier. Then have months tabbed. Just a little dream 😊 !! It would solve the two planned concern😊

I agree I need one planner! So are you going with the daily duo for the 2020/21 year?

  • @kateslife4306

I use my LP for scheduling and I just bought the daily petite bundle and plan to use them as memory keeping, kind of like a diary but also a dream log and other key events that don’t make it Into my LP.

  • @Readersgoingtoread

I have my erin condren for my schedule. I block schedule, so in my erin condren I will have "clean" blocked off and on a throw away piece of paper or notepad, I'll list my cleaning list for that today (and that changes every single day)
That way I have the important things in my planner and it's not cluttered with " do dishes" every single day... does that make sense?

I know this video is old, but I literally searched for this kind of video because Im having the exact same issue right now!! I just ordered a petite planner folio system when I already have a lifeplanner. I do this to myself every year if Im being honest. I purchase several different planners and try several different systems and ultimately I just end up using something very similar to an EC lifeplanner. Which by the way is why I decided to finally buy one this year and look at ke now weeks later buying the folio!!!! Has anything changed for you? Are you using both or just one?

  • @paulashealthyliving
    @paulashealthyliving 4 года назад +1

I was thinking that the Lifeplanner is too big to carry around on errands so to have a monthly and something for "to do" lists in a folio for day to day. And perhaps a budget to keep track of spending.

You don't have to use the slots for hours ... use them as sections.... Use the hourly in your life planner for hourly ... use the daily pages for other thing.
You don't even have to make the sections something specific ... maybe each day is different ... use the daily for note making kind of things.

I completely understand. I tried a daily and it did not work for me at all. I need to be able to see my whole week so I dont miss anything.

I don’t know if you noticed but you basically stated a solution yourself in this video.
    1. Plan everything in the Life Planner. Take the time you need to get everything in there and decorate.
    2. Each night (or morning) use your life planner to plan out the next day onto the Daily Planner and take it with you on the go.
That way you shouldn’t miss anything because you are using only the Life Planner for everything. The daily is just a way to fit it in your purse/bag and take it with you.

This is a great video that reflects real life! What about using an undated ec daily alongside your Lifeplanner? I use a bullet journal (really a notebook) with mine. Everything goes in the Lifeplanner and then gets copied into the notebook each morning. And when I don't need a daily spread, I skip it. I've tried just doing the bujo and I always miss things because the forward planning isn't enough in a daily anything. Why does ec have to have so many amazing things? :) Happy Thanksgiving!

I’ve learned I can’t use my phone. I guess I got so used to writing things down as a kid. I use my life planner every day but I also carry a small pocket sized notebook in my purse. That’s where I write down to do’s etc. so far it’s working for me. I also jot down random appts and things to put in my planner in my note book. I make sure I write down a date. I also keep just appts in my phone.
Yeah it’s kinda of a lot but so far it works for me.

I really appreciate this video. I'm new to the whole buju world. And I'm trying to research soooo many different planner systems and I'm brewing a fear that no matter what I pick.... I'm going to be missing something I need to stay on top of.
I used to be a full time RN, single mom, scout leader.... my days were run, run, run.
Now I'm retired, kids are adults and I've gotten lazy... when I youtube or play games and waste 8-15 hrs a day. It's got to stop! Any tidbits/large hunks of suggestions would be appreciated...constructively.

Where did you get the smaller stickers You have on the monthly view in your life planner. You have them on 3 days ? The teal, light blue and purple with icons? They are smaller than the full length.

I LOVE those little ones. They're from Krissyanne Designs! Two of them are standard and one was custom (I think the no school stickers are standard on their site, and my cleaning sticker I had her make). Here's the link! www.krissyanne.com/product-p/kad00911.htm?Click=247

@jenplans Do you carry your ECLP with you? Thats where I struggle. I love my ECLP as a main planner but I cant carry it around all day. i used a hobo for a everyday carry/ catch all and i'm looking at a moleskine for 2020 but i'm not sure where the balance will fall. EC will be the workhorse but something smaller has to be the carryall..... we'll see. Does this video mean we'll be seeing more jenplans pwm's ? ;) Thanks for sharing!

basically what I did was get a tn cover from Hobby Lobby on deep discount, threw a happy planner mini in it. (My main planner is a classic happy planner.) In this way I can move mini pages in/out of my Happy Planner to my TN for when I go anywhere so I don't have to duplicate my writing. or miss anything. I could be 100% fine and not in a funk because this system is working for me BUT I hate the discs now.

I “want” them both to work together and play nicely. I’m not sure how to make them play together. I did go for the undated petite planner (I think it’s the wedding collection) so I can pop in to the petites from time to time with lout wasting the pages. Still searching the combo answers.....

Absolutely stick to one book. I just use a simple notebook for busier days or special lists. I also use big lined post-it notes for that purpose.

I really hope EC comes out with a daily LifePlanner! Too fat? Put it on two coils, 6 months on each. I love everything about the LP except the weekly layout. I NEED a daily layout to function successfully. I tried an undated EC Petite planner, but the layout doesn't work for me. I am now in an Emily Ley Daily Simplified Planner. The daily layout works fantastically for me (though I do wish Saturday and Sunday each had their own page). I miss the rest of the LP, though. The size, the 2 page year + at a glance, notes pages, the pocket, etc.
