HUGE thank you for this guide! This is the best Pathfinder WOTR guide I've found out there. I don't intend to watch 5 hrs of guides before starting to play. This guide sums up the most important things and as someone with DnD experience I get it just fine. And even if I don't - I prefer googleing the two or three things I don't understand instead of watching a two hours video. Kudos to you, sir!
Excellent beginners guide. This is a pile of stuff, i would never have known. Im still a bit intimidated though. This is seriously a deep experience. Im glad games like this exist...
My problem exactly even after watching this. I get people like dice rolls etc, but damn I miss how other games simplify these things for the player. I am still enjoying the game ofc and I guess this will be great for classic dnd fans from what I hear. 3.5 or something.
Totally feel ya. If you think this game is a bit of a headache/too intimidating and if you like Tactical games, try out XCOM 2. Its Sci-fi but has similar things like builds, customization, etc but its a lot less deep when it comes to builds and no dice system. Still very fun tho. You can play that first while still figuring Pathfinder out.

@@dormanthero Thats actually good to hear. I bet youll be able to set the difficulty settings to challenge you, but knowing that it comes together for you as you are playing.....that means the game make sense, and the learning curve is fair. Thanks!
I've found an easy way to deal with encumbrance is to bring an animal companion. Many classes have archetypes that include animal companions, my personal favorite is the sylvan sorcerer. The animal's strength will be considered for total party encumbrance and many of the animals to choose from have very high strength ability scores.
I have two extra tips. 1:Even if you prefer turn-based mode it helps to initiate combat in active mode with multiple ranged attacks before switching. 2: Pets get Feats, skills and equipment too. A mount and its rider with the Outflank Feat can benefit at the same time. Pets are also best for the perception skill.
I definitely wouldn't start with Unfair. I am a long time Pathfinder player, but not a minmax/munchkin at all, and I am barely squeaking through on Core. (And using internet builds for a couple of the more crap NPC's)
I'm a self taught computer person who grew up with rotary dial phones the complexity of dungeons and dragons along with other game specific rules make this a very hard learning curve for this old dog. Having said that these guides do help in that I'm made aware of rules, situations and builds that I really don't understand in some cases until I get the explanation. So a long winded thanks.
As someone who absolutely loved Kingmaker without 100% understanding the calculations that were going on behind the scenes, having it all laid out really highlights the Cones-iness of the game. xD "Remember, it's all about the Cones."
I can't imagine trying to play this game without having already played the Pathfinder tabletop RPG or something similar for years. It's so much to just get tossed into.
@@RavarSeer if you have any questions about game mechanics or anything, I'll do my best to answer. I've played Pathfinder 1st edition (which the game is about 95% based on) for 10 or 11 years, and even I think the leveling up process is badly explained.
I’ve had kingmaker in my steam library for almost a year lol. Every time I think I want to start playing the overwhelming amount of information just has me switch to something easier like back to warframe lol
Played 2 years of 5e and NWN when I was growing upso all of whats mentioned here is at least familiar, some differences, but yeah, I think it'd be a nightmare if you're new to the genre.
I think a good beginner's tip for the early part of the game is to give both Seelah and Camellia each a level of Rowdy at 2nd level. This gives them sneak-attack and vital-strike bonus damage that works on both ranged and melee attacks. So, Camellia becomes a ranged assassin that ends up one-shot-killing one enemy before each combat even starts, and then usually goes first in the surprise round and kills another. During melee, her Rapier starts doing 10 to 20 damage normally instead of only 4 or 5. Meanwhile, Seelah becomes an Uber-tank that does 40 to 50 damage per hit with the magic Glaive you find early on, and once in a while that Glaive will cause multiple enemies to flee after she takes out the first one. It's wonderful! There is no cost to using Vital Strike and getting a huge damage boost unless you are normally doing multiple attacks per round. During the first few levels when most characters are only hitting once per round anyway, Vital Strike is well worth a 1 level dip into Rowdy for almost everyone that you get to join your party at that point. It makes potentially difficult early battles, like the water elemental in the Maze, into very short and easy affairs. If you have multiple ranged vital-strike characters in your party, then the elemental generally doesn't make it across the room to attack anyone unless you boost the difficulty way up. I would not do the Rowdy level for Lann, however, as he is so devastating with a composite longbow as a pure Monk, I think it is foolish to multiclass him during the early levels. This also applies to any two-weapon-fighting builds you may be working on. Vital Strike ends up being a wasted ability fairly quickly in those builds.
A good intro for those who have never played. Well done. I play Pathfinder tabletop with friends for about 8 years now. I played Kingmaker in live campaign and the Owlcat game. Just starting WotR. Your clear and concise and this should help new players
Great Guide and have to agree about avoiding multiclass until you know what you are doing. In Kingmaker I multiclassed on my first character because I wanted to get Mystic Theurge later since the discription sounded so cool. Needless to say my PC ended up totally useless most of the time and had to be carried by the rest of the party.
Backed the game in kickstarter so definitely playing it, only thing I need to know on day 1 is if it's polished and relatively bug free. Kingmaker's launch was a bit rough but they had it improved pretty quickly.
It seems like they reused a lot of assets from the previous game, hopefully this time the launch won't be much of a disaster. My only wish is them fixing the random stutters from Kingmaker, but most Unity games have that stuttering issue.
This is indeed a concern yes. I really really hope its a lot more bug free than pathfinder kingmaker at launch. I expect some bugs here and there of course. Might wait a few days to see what the story is. If I have to I will wait a month or so for them to iron out some kinks.
I'm getting the game tomorrow (PS4) and I'm excited. Brand new to D&D/Pathfinder. I think my first character will be a long spear guy that pokes things until they die from it.
Buffing is definitely important. Knowing that the same bonus usually doesn't stack(e.g. if you have two sources of a luck bonus then only the highest is applied) with some exceptions(dodge bonuses) and what the durations are spells. Spells like Heroism grant a +2 morale bonus for combat capability and lasts 10 minutes/caster level so it's a good pick for your front liners and can be cast at the start of a map(just be wary of losing time to failed traversal checks).
The key to all crpgs is to learn the basics of DnD and how dice rolls and armour class works. Whether its Baldurs Gate or Pathfinder or a game that uses its own system like divinity or pillars of eternity the key to being able to play these games is to understand the basic mechanics work, I recommend mortismals guide to Pathfinder: Wotr you can apply what he teaches there in so many games
Good stuff. Thanks for posting. I started off, playing a paladin, but switched over to inquisitor to add some abilities and a force animal companion. Still deciding where to go on my party companions.
I recommend new players check out all the great guides you guys produce! Much better than the prebuilt as you also explain “why” to taking certain feats etc.. !! I can’t wait to play the game with your builds, like I do all CRPGs!!
I love this guy. He sounds like someone I'd get along with, because I'm ok hanging with geniuses! If his video game work ever dries up, (can't imagine that...) he could make a killing in ASMR
I have a tip, not sure if this is part of pathfinder rules or a bug in kingmaker though. In turn based mode if you right click your mouse you can switch between different moving options, if you select movement only it makes it easy to move your max distance and still get your action. Anyway if you select the smallest movement of 5 you can actually move away from close combat without provoking attacks from enemies. this was huge for me in kingmaker as any ranged or caster caught in melee could just move away, then attack or cast without any risk of attacks of opportunity
many say "don't be intimidated, just set it on easy", but i can only reccommend NOT to set it on "easy" at the beginning. make your mistakes early or you will misskill so badly (because "easy") that you only notice later and run into a wall. you will want to have an option for easy gameplay later in the game when you don't want to redo stuff anymore and just get the story done. if you don't know the system you will be badly misskilled anyways, you need some resistance from the game early to notice when you do terribly wrong so you can correct it before you are 50h into the game. so, set it on normal, take the auto-stuff from the game, and when it gets hard towards the last 3rd of the game, set it on easy to get through. Divinity is another franchise that had the same problem, they had to patch in an even easier option later because of this.
What I found to be very important when playing on core difficulty and above is crowd control. The game will throw masses of mobs at you and you simply won't be able to cope unless you can take some out of the fight for several rounds. There's a variety of crowd control spells in the game. I find that I am using the pit/grease spell quite allot as many of the monsters seem to be immune to sleeping/dazing spells. This is why I would recommend taking a spellcaster (ideally a wizard/sorcerer), at least on your first playthrough anyway. As far as difficulty level is concerned, core/hard seem to be the most balanced once you know what you are doing. Unfair is really just there for those who have mastered the game to the point where it's no longer a challenge. I wouldn't recommend tat unless you want to spend hours getting past a single quest lol
Most helpful and best guides on RUclips. You guys really do such an incredible job between these videos and the wiki. I'm sure it takes a ton of time and work and we appreciate it!
i never played a game like this. im confused af but i learn by doing. the storytelling is excellent and i cant let my hands off this game. came here to see if i can pick up a thing or two. cheers
Always enjoy your content, would love to see deep dives into class guides like melee lich characters or whatever i dont know but keep up the great work
In Kingmaker I liked the Magus class, but my last run turned into my favorite run by using a Cleric since the Clerics in game are...questionable. But when the Rogue-Like Dungeon came out (which was an amazing edition and feature), I kinda fell in love with the Slayer. Maybe due to the constant dungeon combat, the Slayer quickly became a staple class whenever I ventured forth in there.
One thing that wasn't mentioned here: Wands and scrolls can be used by classes that can normally cast those spells without putting ranks into "Use Magic Device", and UMD can be used to allow classes that have no spellcasting to use those items!
Played beta. Soo epic, overdose of epicness. Can’t wait for the full release to play my Paladin-Deliverer built around shield bash!! P.S: Barbarian is an obsolete class, when there is a BloodRager(specifically Primalist) P.P.S: Daeran is a primary companion for healing, his whole setup is about healing.
Oh noes the legendary shield-bashing, 70 ac having, 10 attacks per round (with avg. hit of 50+) deliveradin? D: Why would you cheese the poor game like that?
@@SoraJustAGuy Well, I'm currently on my last Kingmaker playthrough as Arcane Trickster, those 800+ hellfire rays surely slap, one would expect that MYTHIC Trickster would slap even harder - although I'd still go with either Lich or Angel/Demon for flavour, since nothing survives Trickster's burst either way :D I guess Tricksters are tricky to balance :')
Magus was un-fun on RTWP mode, but Turn-based made me fall in love with the class again (in Kingmaker). For "run #1" in WotR, though, I went vanilla - Rogue (Knifemaster)!
@@frederickcoen7862 Magus requires quite a lot of micro-managing so yeah Turn Based makes it much better. I really hope sometime they use 2E system, it'd make it all much easier to get into.
Just started playing this last night & absolutely loving it! Tried to get into Kingmaker several times but it didn't stick, probably something to do with the overall story or time limit in the background, not sure. This feels a lot more 'D&D epic', even if we do start at lvl 1. So I've decided on a Winter Witch, and started with a Keen Kitsune Witch Doctor, much to my surprise! I assume I'll need to level to 5th to get 3rd level divine spells (the prereq for WW), then I plan to switch to an actual Witch of some flavour til 5th (again for 3rd lvl arcane prereq), then finally to Winter Witch. I know the WW is a bit under-powered in the TT version of PF, but I'm just roleplaying a theme here, so don't care too much :). Thanks to all you utoobers for all the really informative and helpful vids guys, very much appreciated! ;)
The Cavalier is fun and easy to play. Highly recommend. If you are Azata you can even ride your dragon when she grows.

Oh no, gotta finish my masters degree in Classic RPG character building before I even think about starting this game lmao. But for real, druid is ALWAYS the answer
Watched this more as a recap of pathfinder wrath of the righteous rules more than anything to refresh myself and man i am excited to jump back in. Some of this I had forgotten. Never played a crpg with such fun character building as in pathfinder. Backed this bad boy on kickstarter and I am excited to jump in :D Thanks for the great tips buddy ;)
I'm intimidated by this game. I want to play but it seems difficult. I have a hard time with BG3 sometimes because I get lazy. The layers of this game is just amazing, and seems like if you have the patience to learn it, you will be rewarded.
dont be intimidated. Put it on easy if you like and dive in, gradually open the game up to yourself, try out whatever looks cool, have fun, as you get to understand it bit by bit you will want more of a challenge. so rise the difficulty as you see fit. When you really get your teeth into it you will be in love. Its extremely customizable. I for example love a good challenge but hate big crits. I hate when I do everything well but due to a random dice roll a boss gets a lucky crit and one shots me for massive damage so instead you can turn crit damage down, this means both you and enemies crits will play a smaller roll in deciding the victor of combat thus (for me) reducing frustration. Of course this also means making super dependent crit builds is less viable too lol
@@Terron29 I'm definitely going to buy it and give it a try. There's something about easy mode that bothers me but if I have to I have to. The game really does look amazing and I'm looking for a new game to get into. This might be the perfect one and how do you know unless you try it?
@@gordong11 exactly, dont even worry about easy mode man, this is kinda a long term game. think of easy as simply tutorial, the moment you grasp all the basics even just the basics you can pop it up a notch :)
Great beginners guide. I will definitely say that the auto level will jump on Toughness almost always. Avoid this feat. There are normally 6 better feats for the character you are playing. Toughness is just a waste. It has been since PF 1st edition tabletop and has not been improved.
Since I'm a story first kind of player, I'll pick a class that seems fit for the character the overview in the Steam store of the game. And then roll with whatever comes out. That, however, brings one of the biggest issues I have with RPGs: I do that, I start playing, I find more bits of the story, those bits tell me "this other character concept with that other class would fit so much better in this", restart, find new things to change that, restart, get another character idea that appeals more to me, restart, find an image of some fantasy character that inspires me a much better character that fits in like a glove, restart, get burned out after the umpteenth time I've gone through that conversation, move to another game, time passes, go back to the game, restart... Without spoilers, what would be the kind of character that would fit better? A jovial, male, human paladin? A dashing rogue without scruples? An evil female dwarven warlock looking to control demons for a war against elves? Whatever else?
I've heard inquisitor is a class that is aesthetically pleasing for this game. They are basically religious bounty hunters working on behalf of a diety they may or may not get along with. Makes sense they would be there to take part in a crusade. A good necromancer that is cleansing the world with death might also be interesting if you make it to the ending... that was hinted at by one of the trailers I think.
13:28 Yeah, there's a major problem with search feature for the Wiki of this game, in that, as of 11th March 2023, it doesn't work, i.e. searching for any relevant words entered in the search field produces zero results -- nor even a response.
I liked Kingmaker, especially once the definitive edition came out. It seems Owlcat Games learned their lessons from Kingmaker, the beta of WoTR was fairly bug free during my playthroughs. If I have one gripe, I wish I could make my ENTIRE party from the get go (or during an NG+ type scenario), I also had that pet peeve in Kingmaker. EDIT: Kingmaker was a TIME SINK. Between 2 playthroughs I did around 240 ish hours, & this was BEFORE the DLCs came into the picture. I expect WoTR to also have a lot of content before their DLCs come into things.
Any path can become a swarm. Personally, I’m think8ng about doing a Druid, either as Aeon or Lich, and then maybe go full wrath of nature with the swarm.
I read through the classes on a skim, checked the ones I wasn't familiar with from the tabletop version, then decided to play a NE halfling arcanist intending to go down the lich path. Though the legend path and going oracle or cleric could be awesome too.
Even though I beat Kingmaker I didn't know that melee touch attacks required strength. And here I thought I had a decent grasp on the Pathfinder system!
Playing this now, damn its a thick game. First level up i spent around an hour reading through all the other classes i could choose. For my main character! There were 4 other level ups to do.
Most *Clerics* do NOT need to prepare cure spells! They can sacrifice any spell and convert it to a Cure of that level. This feature is badly named officially "Spontaneous Casting" (very confusing name). Mind you, when you play a class that has that feature, you will notice...
I'm a veteran CRPG player, but certainly not a master or anything. I'm finding "normal" difficulty quite easy. Going to up the difficulty tonight after work. :-)
you should have covered battle preparation as well. like which crowd control to choose(hold, slumber, fear etc.) buff spells(hit, ac, saving throws etc.) stack with others in what way and when to prepare them because i'm running into monsters with 40 and 50 AC, with 20 and 30 to hit bonuses while my tanks have a measly 35 AC and 15 to hit.
Really looking forward to your WotR content guides like this ~keep it up! As for me, I'm planned for 2 gameplay paths already. Divine Caster on Angel Mythic Path and Sorcerer on Lich Mythic Path, going to go with Angel path first tho. Been reading possible guides so far I've come up with Cleric or Oracle (caster build), Cleric or Warpriest (buffed melee), or Paladin.
Trully thanks, i'm totally new to thoose games ( it will be my first one ) and to respond your Question i will be playing a magus with a dragon bloodline as my starter ( it encompas almost everything i want ) ^^ Really thanks for this gfuide and for making this game more understandable and beginer friendly
I only recently found out about turn based mode in Kingmaker. Completely changed the game for me and I actually did a full new playthru with it. Hugely better experience with turns plays more like the system is meant to. Seeing it in the new one is quite nice as well. I do hope to be more grabbed by this story though. Nothing wrong with Kingmaker, but I just didn't care for the story or characters much.
Im not surprised, if I remember correctly, pathfinder kingmaker didn't RELEASE with a turn mode but of course so many people were confused why a game based on pathfinder, a turned based tabletop game didn't at least have the option. So they gave the option later.
This is a very complex game and the first time it can be very overwhelming. We have a wiki and a lot of guides to help but if you’re in it for the story don’t shy from lowering difficulty. You can always replay for harder combat later or change it back up, but if you find yourself struggling it’s best to take it one fight at a time
4 things I wish I know before I start playing the game. I will chronological order them. Spoiler alert: 1. In prologue (before you wake up in tavern) you can get 3 companions. Seelah Paladin (Lawful Good) - tank, Camellia shaman (Undetectable) - only healer (can also be dps with two rapiers) and Lann (Lawful Neutral) monk or Wenduag fighter (Neutral Evil) - range archer dps depending of your actions and choices. 2. After prologue you can get mercenaries for 500 gold if you: don’t level up your main character, remove all party members from active party and set “Only active companions receive experience” to ON. Name of NPS is Hilor. 4. After prologue I got round 6000 gold after selling items. 3. You can respect for free first few times. Companions form level you get them but mercenaries from beginning. You can even change their class and stats. NPS is Hilor. 4. After prologue you will be close to level 4. So you can just travel to Market Square and back. You will get random encounter where you can get Nenio Wizard (True Neutral). Bay helping her you will get level 4. Now game really starts. Bonus advice: Make your main character charisma based with high Persuasion because only with him you will get dialogs and dialogs options. And build rest of the party around him.
I wouldn't put Cavalier as a beginner class because you have to spec you pet and a lot of your power relies mainly on charging and you have combos with skald etc. Any other class you mention where you can put in melee and forget about them (Fighter, Barbarian, Slayer, Ranger, etc.) go for it. Pretty neat video nonetheless.
Thank you for the guide. I want to love this game. But after every 30 minutes with it I get confused and bored and just end up running back to D:OS2 for the rest of my evenings. Am I lame? Or is Divinity just 'that' much better?
kingmaker pissed me off to the point of quitting cuz no matter how many times i rested, my debuffs wouldnt go away. hopefully this one is a bit more polished, looking forward to it. love crpgs
On normal difficulty in kingmaker, resting at the trading post or in the capital would remove “permanent” debuffs like blindness or curses. On higher difficulties, however, you’d need magic to get rid of them. Normal resting in the wilderness only removes temporary debuffs like fatigue.
To make debuffs go away on rest: Go into the difficulty menu, and toggle the respective setting. - Most debuffs, in accordance with the Pathfinder rules, can normally only be cured via spells ( e.g. : Restoration) or potions.
THE SAME BONUS DOESN'T STACK. Not always, like with bonus to dodge AC which is the exception, but this is so important to know. I wasted so much equipment and potential in Kingmaker, because I didn't understand this for a long time. An example: A +2 armor bonus to AC and a +3 armor bonus to AC doesn't stack. Meaning you only get the +3. That also means, that something like the spell "Mage Armor" is useless on armored companions.
video games are also not perfect so some bonuses may stack with what could be considered bugs I remember in kingmaker frightful presence with legendary proportions, not all but many bonuses stacked
Great hints, but can anyone just explain how to actually play the game? The help is poor. I've played Baldur's gate and BG3 but the controls of this game, like who's turn is it, make no sense. Can anyone explain?
@@kross_apollo1833 im a wizard spell caster,i got seelah for tank, ember, soliel, lann / i had to turn down to casual just for the boss fights, the trash are pretty easy but the bosses are broken...
Do you have some news about the secret Devil mythic path by any chance? I will start with a lawful evil tiefling Eldritch Scion and get to Aeon so it can open the Devil one, hopefully.
It’s about buffing allies. Gives various boosts and bonuses to your allies. But you also lose your Aeon gazes when you switch to Devil, and to be honest, Aeon gazes just seem flat out better to me than the stuff the devil hands out. …though it’s admittedly hilarious to turn your companions into ticking bombs that explode when they are no longer useful to you and take out all enemies around them. The devil can steal some of the demon and angel mythic stuff, which has interesting applications. The main problem I see, though, is that you get the devil 5/6ths into the game, so making it work with your build might be tricky, especially if you relied on Aeon stuff beforehand.
@@zerg0s So you managed to get to devil in the beta? Cause nobody talks about it. I thought it was kept for the release. Interesting insight, thanks. Personally I am not interested in min maxing. It's more as a potential fun path to take maybe.
Seems overwhelming, but it has been so long since ive played a dnd type of rpg that i wanna try to get into it. Coming on ps plus extra so i will download soon.😊
@@dominikk6627 if you're a human, it needs to grow to large first, so most things dont work right away (except horses, which start large). Gnomes or halflings can ride medium, though. (halflings riding velociraptors is fun.)
Good tips, thank you. What I'd really like to know however is this.....we've all seen this amazing and greatly detailed character creator and your class videos, but will we only be able to create a single character (the main character) in each playthrough? Given that a lot of people may not playthrough more than once, that would be a great shame!
You can hire mercenaries, which are custom created party members. They won't have any dialogue, but you will be able to build your party full on custom if you want.
how much freedom and interactivity does this game offer versus games like Skyrim and baldur's gate 3? I really want to be able to interact with the objects in the world and use them in realistic and creative ways with authentic and organic reactivity - does this game offer that or is it more restricted than that? ty
I have played maybe 100 hours of Skyrim, and a bunch more in the Fallout series. I'd say Wotr allows for much less interaction with the environment. I spend most of the time holding down the Tab key to see who/what can be interacted with. There is basically loot (chests, shelves, potion racks, armor holders, etc) and named characters who will dialog with you. 30 hours in and it seems big on story and combat
If you're publishing builds (please!), include mythic paths! They're essential for this game. Party recommendations with each build would be great, as well as companion build alternatives
Do cantrips get stronger as you level? That was one thing I always enjoyed with caster classes is using your big spells but bot having a wizard use an item, but have cantrips to feel more wizardry.

As someone who absolutely loved Kingmaker without 100% understanding the calculations that were going on behind the scenes, having it all laid out really highlights the Cones-iness of the game. xD
"Remember, it's all about the Cones."
My monkey brain barely gets the basics lol
Do I need to play another rts to understand this games?
@@saichandanr1953 no but it will help if you're familiar with cones of dunshire
Yes it's so much like that made-up satirical game from a show you watched and not like the actual ttrpg it's based on...
Good tip also once you get used to combat a bit, it's REALLY nice to use Real Time Combat for easy fights, and use Turn based for Boss fights.
A much welcome video. Thank you. Hoping for more Wrath of the Righteous videos once the game releases
I can't imagine trying to play this game without having already played the Pathfinder tabletop RPG or something similar for years. It's so much to just get tossed into.
Just started playing yesterday, it’s overwhelming
@@RavarSeer if you have any questions about game mechanics or anything, I'll do my best to answer. I've played Pathfinder 1st edition (which the game is about 95% based on) for 10 or 11 years, and even I think the leveling up process is badly explained.
I also just started and I come from only playing divinity original sin 2. It’s very different but I kinda like how there’s so much to get into
I’ve had kingmaker in my steam library for almost a year lol.
Looking forward to new content throughout the week!
This video made me realize how much I take for granted in these Owlcat games knowing Pathfinder before hand.
Backed the game in kickstarter so definitely playing it, only thing I need to know on day 1 is if it's polished and relatively bug free. Kingmaker's launch was a bit rough but they had it improved pretty quickly.
Yeah I remember that too i think it took about 8 months right?
Agreed, already bought it. Just hope it’s not a buy now wait half a year or longer to get the “good” version.
It seems like they reused a lot of assets from the previous game, hopefully this time the launch won't be much of a disaster. My only wish is them fixing the random stutters from Kingmaker, but most Unity games have that stuttering issue.
Bug free is unlikely, but im confident that release date is gonna be better than kingmaker
I hope more videos for this game will come out too - I love the pathfinder universe!
Good stuff. Thanks for posting. I started off, playing a paladin, but switched over to inquisitor to add some abilities and a force animal companion. Still deciding where to go on my party companions.
This is pure fire, needed this, cheers my guy
I recommend new players check out all the great guides you guys produce!
Much better than the prebuilt as you also explain “why” to taking certain feats etc.. !!
I can’t wait to play the game with your builds, like I do all CRPGs!!
I love this guy. He sounds like someone I'd get along with, because I'm ok hanging with geniuses! If his video game work ever dries up, (can't imagine that...) he could make a killing in ASMR
Sorry to reply to myself, but for the other commenters: I loved this guy's advice through DOS2, DOS, and Wasteland3. Cheers!
Good old 5 foot shift! One of my favorite features of Pathfinder. 5e doesn't have it, afaik.
So excited to dig into this. Really looking forward to creating a full evil party and wrecking everything.
many say "don't be intimidated, just set it on easy", but i can only reccommend NOT to set it on "easy" at the beginning. make your mistakes early or you will misskill so badly (because "easy") that you only notice later and run into a wall.
you will want to have an option for easy gameplay later in the game when you don't want to redo stuff anymore and just get the story done.
if you don't know the system you will be badly misskilled anyways, you need some resistance from the game early to notice when you do terribly wrong so you can correct it before you are 50h into the game.
so, set it on normal, take the auto-stuff from the game, and when it gets hard towards the last 3rd of the game, set it on easy to get through.
Divinity is another franchise that had the same problem, they had to patch in an even easier option later because of this.
Glad I backed this. Can’t wait
Wow. Great video! Thanks for taking the time!
i never played a game like this. im confused af but i learn by doing. the storytelling is excellent and i cant let my hands off this game. came here to see if i can pick up a thing or two. cheers
Super helpful, my guy. Thanks a million. (i've already managed to make a shit first build. thinking of starting over in the weekend.)
Just like all @Fextralife videos, there is A LOT of information! Thanks for breaking it down for us noobs.
Thanks for the preview. Not going to be my cup of tea but I hope others will enjoy it.
Always enjoy your content, would love to see deep dives into class guides like melee lich characters or whatever i dont know but keep up the great work
Thanks for making this video. I finished Kingmaker but some of the gameplay aspects were too complicated for me
I've played the card game for a while, can't wait to play this one.
P.S: Barbarian is an obsolete class, when there is a BloodRager(specifically Primalist)
P.P.S: Daeran is a primary companion for healing, his whole setup is about healing.
Does it already handle controller setup?
@@Trace153 dunno, haven’t tried playing with a controller
Oh noes the legendary shield-bashing, 70 ac having, 10 attacks per round (with avg. hit of 50+) deliveradin? D: Why would you cheese the poor game like that?
@@Hekk. lol , have you heard about trickster path’s critical stacking?XD 3k hits made with vital strike that’s a new level of cheating XD
@@SoraJustAGuy Well, I'm currently on my last Kingmaker playthrough as Arcane Trickster, those 800+ hellfire rays surely slap, one would expect that MYTHIC Trickster would slap even harder - although I'd still go with either Lich or Angel/Demon for flavour, since nothing survives Trickster's burst either way :D
I guess Tricksters are tricky to balance :')
Magus.
Magus magus magus.
Dragon.
Dragon Magus.
That's my answer

I could not decide if you were explaining D&D3.5 or this game:) Thx for the video. Stay safe and Gruß from Germany
This is gonna take up all my life when game comes out
I'm intimidated by this game. I want to play but it seems difficult. I have a hard time with BG3 sometimes because I get lazy. The layers of this game is just amazing, and seems like if you have the patience to learn it, you will be rewarded.
Compared to BG3, I feel like this game is more complex and I don't really play many DnD games
Set it on easy and enjoy
dont be intimidated.
Super excited to play as a Summoner with the Synthesist archetype!
13:28 Yeah, there's a major problem with search feature for the Wiki of this game, in that, as of 11th March 2023, it doesn't work, i.e. searching for any relevant words entered in the search field produces zero results -- nor even a response.
Never played pathfinder but this looks very interesting
Still torn between a lich wizard or an azata sorcerer or inquisitor to start with... also very excited about the swarm-that-walks.
Any path can become a swarm. Personally, I’m think8ng about doing a Druid, either as Aeon or Lich, and then maybe go full wrath of nature with the swarm.
vERY good guide and tips! thanks
probably gonna spend 12 hours minimum choosing which class to play
I read through the classes on a skim, checked the ones I wasn't familiar with from the tabletop version, then decided to play a NE halfling arcanist intending to go down the lich path. Though the legend path and going oracle or cleric could be awesome too.
Took me about 3 days I think I finally settled on a CE slowly moving towards good Mutagen Warrior
Even though I beat Kingmaker I didn't know that melee touch attacks required strength. And here I thought I had a decent grasp on the Pathfinder system!
You can pick up weapon finesse to make it use Dex instead.
Playing this now, damn its a thick game. First level up i spent around an hour reading through all the other classes i could choose. For my main character! There were 4 other level ups to do.
Thank you for the video as always..really enjoy your guides for these RPG's!
THREE MORE DAYS LETS GOO! :D
I'm excited for this game
Most *Clerics* do NOT need to prepare cure spells! They can sacrifice any spell and convert it to a Cure of that level. This feature is badly named officially "Spontaneous Casting" (very confusing name). Mind you, when you play a class that has that feature, you will notice...
Great tips!
I think a very useful video I'd like to see for the noobs is what difficulty setting to pick.
Great timing for this guide, as I was about to launch the game. Wish me luck. (Edit: so many magic classes. Decisions, decisions)
Thanks for the information, will definitely get this game!
Trully thanks, i'm totally new to thoose games ( it will be my first one ) and to respond your Question i will be playing a magus with a dragon bloodline as my starter ( it encompas almost everything i want ) ^^
Really thanks for this gfuide and for making this game more understandable and beginer friendly
good stuff! keep the guides coming ;-)
Kinetic was my favorite class in kingmaker so i'll start with that
This guide makes me feel like I'm back in High School Algebra after skipping class for a few weeks.
From what I played of the beta of WoTR, while there is encumbrance, it wasn't as bad as it was in Kingmaker. Take that for what you will.
With weapon finesse you can add dex modifier to to-hit on touch attacks btw :^)
I‘m new to this kind of game and feel very overwhelmed. I like the story though but i really don‘t get what i‘m actually doing, how to fight etc
Spoiler alert:
Very good video
I wouldn't put Cavalier as a beginner class because you have to spec you pet and a lot of your power relies mainly on charging and you have combos with skald etc.
Any other class you mention where you can put in melee and forget about them (Fighter, Barbarian, Slayer, Ranger, etc.) go for it. Pretty neat video nonetheless.
Thank you for the guide. I want to love this game. But after every 30 minutes with it I get confused and bored and just end up running back to D:OS2 for the rest of my evenings. Am I lame? Or is Divinity just 'that' much better?
You're lame 😆
I actually didn't like Divinity because I grind and that series has a fixed number of encounters. It is too much on rails.
kingmaker pissed me off to the point of quitting cuz no matter how many times i rested, my debuffs wouldnt go away. hopefully this one is a bit more polished, looking forward to it. love crpgs
Your party members were probably cursed. Use a remove curse spell to get rid of it next time. It's not always a bug.
That also means, that something like the spell "Mage Armor" is useless on armored companions.
video games are also not perfect so some bonuses may stack with what could be considered bugs
I remember in kingmaker frightful presence with legendary proportions, not all but many bonuses stacked
Great hints, but can anyone just explain how to actually play the game? The help is poor. I've played Baldur's gate and BG3 but the controls of this game, like who's turn is it, make no sense. Can anyone explain?
You might want to look up how initiative works in Pathfinder (and DnD, if memory serves).
Or just play real-time.

It's more as a potential fun path to take maybe.

how much freedom and interactivity does this game offer versus games like Skyrim and baldur's gate 3?
They should prob make a general party comp guide while their at it, this games needs strong parties more than kingmaker did
