Im still in the middle of the Gustav right now, I dont think I will reach the elbing very soon, but at least I get the picture from this video.
I dont have that particular german commander. I refuse to open any multi captains gamble box. I hope having access to that captain is not imperative to proper functioning of all of the german scout cruisers line.
I think I will just continue the grind slowy, who knows the ragnar will be soon available for review so by that time I can finally decide whether to continue the grind or just drop it altogether and wait till the ragnar is available as a bundle in the shop.

It's totally not required to use a legendary commander with APCS+. The guns are probably the most powerful 150s in the game, and even with regular APCS, should be perfectly capable of dishing out against battleships. Actually, if you look at the comment above, APCS+ might be too much pen, with the regular one, you can hurt DDs when aimed right.
The key to this line is aim - both knowing where to aim, and being able to manually aim at those spots, since you can't really rely on torpedo damage most of the time, and AP needs to hit the right spots to work.

Yes I am currently in the middle of the t8 of the line, and my impression is the gun is the main feature of the higher tiers, not the torpedo. At t8 the guns are already very accurate, and as I have said before if somehow I am unable to hit any unobstructed targets with those guns, then I have only myself to blame. Yes it is that accurate. And even without apcs yet, I can get full penetration already provided I aimed at the correct section and with sufficient gun elevation. The basic gun has already have a great AP shell penetration value.
I wonder whether assigning normal apcs later might improve or actually worsen the performance, as I am worried that current full pens might turn into over pens. The damage difference will be quite stark in contrast.

I got myself the Black Hipper from the shipyard earlier today and did a few bot battles just to get a feeling for the ship, and my experience so far was pretty similar. Those 203mm guns are nasty against the deck at mid to long range, and once you get closer, just hammer on the bow and stern.
I didn't play with the autoaim off, and I will certainly try it, but the AP seems to work pretty well against all targets except DDs at close range. Very similar to the Elbing.
It depends a little on the ship you're targeting as well. My understanding is that auto-aim drags the shells towards the mid point of the target, to maximise hits. If you've got a BB that's pretty high in the water, you might end up with more shells on the belt.
Mind you, dispersion is still in effect, so even with manual aim, your shells won't end up precisely where you aim, it just removes the compensation towards the centre. If you feel that your shells tend to go "too low", then try aiming manually. Against bow/stern this doesn't make a difference, it's only if you're trying to go for deck shots.

I know from prior discussions with a couple NA players that excel at Elbing, APCS+ is too much for those guns. With APCS and the ability or device requirements to manually aim your guns, they have found spots on every DD to reliably get full pens.
Interesting. I was just curious how far I could push it, and had pretty much accepted that these guns aren't great against DDs at close range. This thing can reliably citadel BBs, which isn't making a huge difference in raw numbers, but is satisfying to watch.
@@FunandGameswithTerry from my understanding, Spee is for Z52 and Scheer is the one to put on Elbing if you are going to put a Legendary commander on it. From what I’m told APCS is too much on DD’s unless you really go nuts with auto-aim off. You can still auto-aim off to strip main guns and citadel BB’s with that commander.
What are your thoughts on a video on the pros and cons of aim settings?

Ive never used auto aim other than once or twice years ago,i play on a Razer 2 and iphone 12 and no problems,you have a ROG 6 or something crazy like that dont ya? That things a damn beast and Im surprised you have trouble manulally aiming,the display is nearly 7 inches?
ROG 3, actually, but I find that too small to target specific sections at range.

That is an excellent question. I'll have to test that - but I would assume not, since the game doesn't really have a way to tell that they're "targeting"

I have been playing WOWS blitz for 4 years now, and I legit had no idea you could turn auto-lock off! Even before I figure out where to aim for various ship combinations this is going to come in super handy when aiming at one ship in a group.
Damn. Shoulda looked harder at the control screen. I basically turned off the music and turned down the volume on the rest and called it a day.

That was introduced a while back. For the longest time, I've only considered it as a way to deal with the lock-on issues if your target is too close to another ship, until Slai47 made a video about how lock-on not only tracks the guns, but also draws the shells towards the centre / belt armour.
You're not alone, I've been playing since 2017, and just learned about this recently.

Not yet. Not quite sure you want to see me playing Nakhimov... That thing has way too many torpedo planes. Maybe I'll try Pobeda, but it's not high on the list.
In general, you'll need to manage your wings such that they strike together, since they're very weak individually. If doing that sounds like your cup of tea, and you're not afraid to play e.g. IJN CV, this line may be for you.

I'm playing on an Asus ROG 3. It's large enough for most things, but I find manual targeting at range difficult due to the decreased zoom. Also, getting old & eyes aren't the best anymore :)
