Interesting. That bounce method could come in handy. Thanks.

"There is no compression release on any engine with a pulley start."
I have a Hatz E75 (3.5kW max.) with a pulley start and compression release. It's on an old dumper (Clowez). It's been 'out of service' shall we say, but when I did get it going it was lovely. I left it with a specialist in heavy machinery to convert it to electric start, spent €400 on starter, etc., only for him to tell me that because no cover ever existed there was no way to align the starter -- it took him a year to tell me that.
Anyway, you're is the only vid I've ever seen that shows a rope start (I gave up looking a couple of years ago), so I REALLY appreciate you showing this! I like the bouncy method you showed -- actually I have seen that, but not explained -- but since I have decompression, and it's potentially dangerous, I'll give up the pleasure of learning it; I've already nearly had my shoulder ripped out by kickback on an AS Motor engine 4.4 kW, 165cc (another German) mounted to a 3-wheel brushcutter (AS26 AH9) which frightens me just to look at it.
Thanks again, I'll check any other videos you may have.

I own a 6hp ACME diesel from 1980s and I've always been starting it using the bouncing method. I have to try the first method to see if it is any easier. :)

Great video but I suspect many in this current generation are wondering what compression is.

How does the Lombardini engine compare to the Honda gx series with build quality, how long it will last etc..?

10 hp diesel is a tricky thing to start when kts chilly. Would this be helpful? I hace a recoil starter. If its is possible to bounce the same air in the cylinder, will it warm up enough to ignite the fuel?

Dear Sir, thank you for the very educational and excellent video.
One question: recently I obtained Lombardini 6LD360 engine, what length of rope and what diameter of rope should I buy?
    Greetings from Croatia.

I was wondering whether bouncing with a recoil will warm the engine a bit, used without decrompression. It does compress (heat) the air, the logic being, that heat will transfer to cylinder walls. What say you?

whats is the difference between bcs 745 and 746 c12?

Can the bounce method be used with a recoil starter or only an open pulley starter?

It seems the recoil hooks will hold their grip if you practice a little. Tried today.

Interesting. I well remember the old-style pull-rope engines from the 1950s & 1960s... Are they still around ? Should run virtually forever.....Was watching videos on motorized bicycles, thinking how similar they look to a 1906 Harley Davidson. Especially with a springer front fork.... A pull-start engine, a drive belt to the rear wheel....
