    Seth is an incredible pitch man.
    Great stuff! I'm sold on basically all of these.
    If I had to pitch a card, it would be Tainted Strike. It can be an absolute blow out, can target your opponents' creatures as they swing out at another player, can shrink an otherwise intimidating blocker, and if you have any way to proliferate incidentally you can get a clock against someone. "I didn't kill you! It was X's creature attacking you that did it. Sure I gave it infect, but that doesn't count"

    Make an Example
    4 mana and sorcery. But *at worst* you eliminate everyone's best creature. It's generally a better Soul Shatter in most circumstances since you choose the pile meaning it's not always the highest MV but highest priority based on table state. Gets around shroud/hexproof/regeneration/indestructible. Politically can be used to not remove anything if they trust you.
    It's so good!

    IMHO my Shark Tank card would probably be Transmogrifying Wand... This card does only one thing, but the effect is staggeringly good in colours that suck at removing creatures (which is now only Green iirc, but I run Wand in my Azorius deck, it's got a huge upside in hitting 3 bodies over time). Another sneakily useful card is Banshee... Yes, it's a 4 mana 0/1, but it's also a really bittersweet pinger that can scale with the game! If your games go long, you might be able to keep various Commanders off the table with this card, frankly that's value. Yes, you could just run Viscera (I do run that in more competitive decks), but Banshee synergizes with tons of stuff. It's a surprise to me how often it and Gorilla Shaman can be drawn and feel sweet, blowing stuff up for mana and no cards is sweet lae game.
    I like Brotherhood's End with 4 mana rocks I guess, so it's a maybe? I feel like 3 damage isn't a big enough wipe, you'll miss too much.
    My problem with Collective Restraint is that it's not War Tax, the true alpha of the 'tax to swing' cards IMHO, it's just so much more versatile, you can easily hose an archenemy who needs to swing. I also feel like it's a questionable card if it's worse than Propaganda, but it's worth noting that even in mono-Blue you can run Urborg and Yavimaya, have fun digging them out! I do feel like if you're in a 5 colour deck this is a sick card, but it's also not cheap. I've come around to the fact that Propaganda effects can matter but usually don't do as much as you need, a tax of 2 doesn't matter much later game vs Voltron, but War Tax could still make it impossible for that Boros guy to swing even once, IE the actual effect you're looking for from Propaganda in most cases. If you're running all of these effects, and or stuff like Mana Web to make them really suffer.
    Bolt Bend is interesting but feels small/clunky. I think if you're on Voltron it's probably a good enough call, but my Boros Voltron uses Meekstone so yeah, this doesn't fit in there? If you're in Red, you should run Pryoblast over Bolt Bend, blowing up someone's Zur for R is really sick value in Red.
    Szat's Will is a decent card, but it's nowhere near the removal option that Make an Example is, but it can do other stuff that matters sometimes so they don't compare perfectly.
    Overburden is a good card in a deck with Ashaya, I think if you're not using it as a combo piece you're just playing hard stax, this is one of the nastier cards in print so I'd hope not to see folks playing this kind of thing in Casual.
    Fade Away is a suspicious card, it's awfully reminiscent of Tabernacle, and yet it's so much worse that it's almost completely terrible. I'm sure it's had it's moments in history, but it's usually a bad card.

  • @jlbrooks74
    @jlbrooks74 Год назад +1

    I'm with Tomer on bolt bend inclusions. Boros, gruul, rakdos and three color decks also without blue can easily slot redirects in for protection that acts as removal. What are you ever going to use a redirect on? Probably a removal spell aimed at something integral to your plan. Redirects turn that removal into a hard counter for that action AND removal of your choice now on something you find problematic. Non blue decks should use them and use them properly.

    @chrismarlow9585 Год назад

    Tomer, I have friends who read Fade Away and thought it was amazing. However, none of them play it any more. It's really cool but in practice it's got these downsides:
    1) Catching all opponents tapped out at a time you want to board wipe is hard.
    2) People sacrifice the creatures they don't care about then pay / sacrifice another permanent (even a land / mana rock) to keep the problem ones.
    3) The choice is all on the opponent, so you can't force anything to die.
    Basically, for 3 mana you clean away the excess creatures on the board but don't actually deal with any problems and it also has the extra condition of people needing to be tapped out. That's absolutely not what you want from a board wipe, it's simply a value card. It also gets problematic if you have stuff you want to save, since then it effectively becomes a normal cost board wipe (without actually getting rid of problems).
    Where it's good is decks that rely on very few / no creatures to function and want a cheap way to keep the board small so they don't get run over. The same can be achieved by playing something like propaganda, except that keeps the opponents still damaging each other with their big boards so it's way better.
    That all said, I think it's very unique and cool design. When you land it and force people into tough choices it feels great.

    A point for ghostly prison cards over wraths: wraths remove pressure from the whole board, meaning the aggro players can't pressure the durdly and combo players. You're unintentionally giving those players a MASSIVE advantage. These cards keep pressure on the board as a whole, which doesn't happen enough in many games.

    On the domain prision card, remember Urborg and Yavimaya are a thing.
    Keep doing this and do viewer suggestions too (I have some budget cards to pitch that have proven themselves at my lgs vs the mana crypt crowd)

    Bolt Bend gets a yes from me. I run mana tithe just for the outside chance it does something for the comedy value. How can I not put in bolt bend for the off chance someone tries to swords my commander and I take theirs out instead?

    Fade Away is one of, if not the only, pauper-boardwipe.
    Which is why its play-numbers is were its at.
    Off-Topic: used to be a 1-of in Top4 Esper Control Pauper-decks, for that exact reason.

    Collective restraing works best on 5 color decks that are instant speed reaction to stop combos. Usually these decks would run group hug effects. So for decks that abuse hunted cards, stax, and curse style effects which in term limit board presence, yes.
    Tax effects main goal is to make winning the game against them cost to many resources go do quickly. The problem is thats a 4 mana card

    I play the Celestus in a controlling Mimeoplasm deck. It is pretty decent to discard your bombs that you want to “reanimate”. I think Day/Night is fine. Pretty much any time in paper it gets removed, we just ignore Day/Night. In the case that someone would play a new Day/Night, you often just refer to the turn that just happened, and if you can’t remember, it’s on the player who played it.

    Tomer, bolt bend is the 5th effect you might play after Tibalt's Trickery, Red Elemental Blast, Pyroblast, and Deflecting Swat. If you're doing stack interaction in red, you just have to answer blue, so you need a density of effects to reliably answer blue. Otherwise those slots are better as board interaction like Gorilla shaman, Meltdown, abrade, Brotherhood's end, chaos warp, wild magic surge

    • @baconsir1159
      @baconsir1159 Год назад

      Tibalt's Trickery is neat but has potentially huge downside as it can't whiff like Chaos Warp (might still be better than Bend, but debatable), and you're smoking crack if you think Pyroblast/REB are better outside of CEDH. Gorilla Shaman in commander is also awful (maybe good in CEDH? they do run a lot more 0 cmc artifacts), SUUUUUPER expensive artifact removal when we have shit like Vandalblast in the format. Abrade is also pretty mid imo, Lightning Bolt is going to be super inconsistent as a removal spell in your average game of Commander and 2 mana for half a Disenchant is also a terrible rate.
