    Hello friends! Thank you so much for watching my video! I just want to reinforce the idea that if you use T-shirts, they need to be made from Cotton Lycra (or spandex) and have at least 5% Lycra. T-shirts made from 100% cotton won’t stretch and recover :)
    Happy sewing!

      Does it need to be lycra (spandex) or would part cotton/ part polyester work? The t-shirts I have all have cotton/poly. No lycra

      @@flowerchild777 No I didn’t because I didn’t think they would be stretchy enough. I bought some 95% cotton 5% spandex at hobby lobby and it worked great.

    Karina, I am admitting to u something I have not told very many people. I'm an old hippie and I gave up on undies long time ago. But you, you have got me thinking about giving up the commando style. I like the idea of underpants but could never get the comfort. Just for clarification under dresses and skirts I wore body shapers. So this is great. Every time I think u have nothing else to show us u always delight us with your expertise.

  • @jirup
    @jirup 3 года назад +3

    Undies! That made me smile, it might be a long time since you left Australia Karina, but the local dialect has stayed with you. I only use cotton for undies when I am recycling a rtw tshirt. If I am buying fabric I will use Australian Tencel, Modal or bamboo. These fibres are more sustainable than cotton. My favourite is Tencel... softer than silk, cooler than linen and more absorbent than cotton. I've never bought a pattern (just cloned my most comfy undies), but I do like the look of that waist band... might have to try it out.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 года назад +1

      I’ve never seen the fabrics you mention. They just don’t sell them here. They sound lovely. I’ve called undies undies my whole life 😀

    • @jirup
      @jirup 3 года назад +1

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles Undies is a very Australian word. Did your family move here before you started school? Tencel is sourced from eucalyptus (hypoallergenic and versatile), it's one downfall is that it resists dyeing. I avoid buying it in dark or very bright colours because the treatment required to get deep colour isn't terribly good for the environment and it is prone to fade anyway.

    Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. You are so good at explaining and I really love your modesty. Please could you let me know how to order this pattern as I've not done it before but I too, am fed up with badly fitting and uncomfortable underwear. Will you be doing a tutorial on bras, in the near future. Especially for those of us with a really large cup size. Bras with large cup sizes are 3 times the price of bras with a B or C cup. But we have to wear one and they are usually badly fitting anyway. Thanks a MILLION, Karina.

      As for regular bra making, I know for a fact that this is an area I will not involve myself with. I live in Brazil and would have a hard time finding all the billion notions needed for bra making. I’d rather stay with only garment sewing. I have sewn a few sports bras and I really enjoy them :) those I’m happy to sew.

    What a fun project! I did start sewing my own undies a few years ago, and that first pair is still the best-fitting pair. I used activewear and swimwear scraps. Just a silly story to share -- somehow I thought using my man's waistband from a pair he didn't care for would somehow make mine look super professional. They looked awful, so bad that I was embarrassed at gym in case anyone saw me. So I just cut it off and replaced with self-fabric, and now they're my favorites. Just a tip for anyone else, that I took my re-harvesting too far! :D

    So lovely panties 😍 Thank you for the recommendation of the Kiki pattern. I haven't thought of the fixed and loose gusset, most of my bought panties have fixed gussets. But my jersey fabric is thicker than the fabric in the bought panties so I think the loose gusset will be best. I've bought the pattern now and will make some panties to go with my homemade Darcey brahs.

    What a terrific idea to use upcycycled t-shirts! I prefer 100% cotton undies except the bands. They are getting really hard to find. The fabric is also impossible to find here. I now what to do with some of my husband's old tshirts.

      The thing with 100% cotton is that they don’t stretch, so the fit will be different. My mum also prefers 100% cotton and finds it near impossible to find any. The T-shirts I used have 5% spandex, so they stretch.
