- In this video we will be having a play with the new Fosi Audio PH05 c5 channel headphone amplifier. We will use it to compare the DT770 range of headphones.
After we were done with the review we handed it over to the fabulous people at the music works in Gloucester - our favourite local charity.

I just modified my EARS today. Unstuck the microphone from the chassis (it's just gooped on with caulk), pulled the cable out, and stuck it into the silicone ear canal so it's all the way at the entrance instead of at the back.
I'm very happy with the resulting measurements. Of course if you're going to keep using your EARS as a back-compatible platform to check with old measurements etc, you should buy a second one to do the mod. But I do recommend it. The ear canal is NOT simulating a real ear canal resonance, and the calibration files do NOT correct it accurately. without the esr canal resonance you get a WAY better result!
At the moment the E.A.R.S is fine for what I do, comparing A with B and I so I can see any changes that happen during mods. Hopefully this year we will have a little extra money in the budget as we can buy a fancier test rig to get more accurate readings. The EARS will then be handed down to the workshop who can use it for testing headphones for faults
Aw jeez. My only DT770 is a 32 ohm model, because I do use them portably quite a bit. The few places that even mention them compare their sound signature to the 250 ohm, but to be honest I've never actually heard the 250 or the 80. I did end up buying the grey velour pads and later Dekoni leather pads, and those have helped the sound and comfort a bit. While I do like their sound (they are my favorite full sized headphone I own) I can't really compare them, and I have occasionally wondered if I made the right choice.
It is probably all down to personal taste - If you like the sound then you made the right choice ;)
@@CustomCans my birthday was a couple weeks after this post, so I bought myself an 80 ohm DT7770. I'd thought about it for a while, so why the hell not? After comparing them both with velour pads (since I don't have the stock pleather pads anymore), the differences are there, but very subtle. The 32s have slightly boosted bass, while the 80s bass is a bit punchier with a bit more sparkle in the treble. I chalk both of these up to higher detail in the 80s.
Overall, I have no regrets either way.
Currently this is $40 usd inc shipping as fosi have 20% off code on the website. Just ordered one so I can have multiple iem/ headphones ready to use at the turn of a knob.
That was free shipping to the UK also.
That is very good value especially considering how well it is built
great review....I hope you can review and modify about Fiio JT1 ... thanks
I love fosio audio ❤
They do seem like a lovely company. After we donated this to the music works, fosi contacted them and offered to donate another 10 to support young musicians... I lovely gesture
@@CustomCans very nice of them :)
sorry for the interruption, but how much would the impact in driver control additing radial magnet to the headphone in terms of creating a lower magnetic pole?
I am not an expert in driver design but have tried adding larger magnets to the rear of the existing driver and it did not seem to make a huge amount of difference to the sound. I may have a proper play in the future
Nice video. I am just looking for a new headphone splitter/amp because the one I have degrades the sound, less dynamic, bit darker and compressed like compering wave to dodgy mp3 file - I am talking about Behringer HA400.
Have you noticed any changes in the sound via Fosi Audio PH05 vs direct signal?
PS And yes, I am using hp splitter to compare headphones at the same volume level :D But main use is for monitoring on stage:)
Different amps all sound slightly different but I did not notice any issues with the sound - I did only play with it for about an hour and did not directly compare it with any other ams
@@CustomCans Thanks;) I didn't ask about specific amp sound but rather if there is any sound degradation - like I wrote before - some amp/splitters have just bad designed circuits, mentioned Behringer HA400, where sound is really far form the source output.
like recreating a hypercardiod polar pattern!
I like driving fast cars and DJing ... we all need our hobbies ;)
"Put this on the jobby here..."
I thought jobby meant taking a 💩, or is that just Scotland :-D
Lol... ;)
Hello, may i ask, do u sell the dt 1990 driver kit?
No we don't - you can get it from Polar Audio in the UK or thomann or beyerdynamic in europe
I have a headphone amp. Which sounds the best dt770 32ohms, 80ohms or 250ohms? Pricing isn't an issue. Thanks
I prefer the 80ohm ones
When will we have any video about any physical tuning to resolve the 200 hz dip on the dt 700 pro x?
I'm waiting for any DT 700 mod :p, the 4k dip mainly tbh
@@Shifterfire I don’t think that one is technically possible but the 200 hz one should be
@gjokaledjon2 Ok ;) I have just about finished the HiFiman Edition XS which has taken several months longer than I expected - next I will do the Pro X series
@@CustomCans Looking forward for those videos and I appreciate your hard work🙌
@@gjokaledjon2 How so? I expected it to be caused by some resonance or something
can I use this with a DT990 PRO? 250 OHM
Yes it would work nicely with those
