I usually stay on the strip. D (or Fitzgerald in the past) is the only hotel I don't mind staying in downtown once in a while, and only because of their casino. Love their slots.
After all the years we’ve been coming to Vegas we FINALLY tried Andiamos last October and it was AWESOME,we highly recommend it ask for Miguel he’s the best waiter we’ve had in a long time !!!

hi from Brisbane Australia love watching your vlogs been to Vegas many times but you are showing me many places i have never been to before I will have to check them out next time I'm there thanks
That was a superb production. During my numerous visits to Vegas, I stayed downtown only once and it was at the Fitz back in the early 2000's. Man, what a transformation they did to that place. Glad to see the McDonald's is still there though lol. Your cinematography and editing on this one was top notch. Great presentation all around and thanks to you, I now know that there is a Canada Bar in a Vegas hotel so .... if we can make it there this year, I'm going to be sure to venture down there for a beer, eh. Thanks once again for your efforts and hard work to bring us this very informative video, they are very much appreciated. Bring on the next one!
Coney Island has the best chili dogs 🌭 we love the vintage horse machine too! We play Vintage Vegas slots all the time! We will be back next month..can't wait
What a fantastic video!!!! Thank you for taking us along, it makes Sundays that much more amazing! Can’t wait to see the next adventure - it sounds exiting!!!!!!
Loved going down there and riding slotzilla. Such a different feel then the strip. Feels like both have their own identity. Love that Fremont st gets love as well.
Dale & Paula you two really do need to try Andiamo's we stayed at the D this past December and went there for dinner and from our waiter to the food.....EXCELLENT....🥂🥂 to me it was a little hidden gem that I had never really paid attention to as much as I've been in the D & downtown....I personally wouldn't stay at the D again but I would definitely go to Andiamo's again....❤❤

I too loved the coins in and out, the sound of them hitting the tray, the mess it would leave on your hands scooping them out, and never being able to find a cup when you needed one! Lol

Hey guys, what a pleasant way to start a Sunday. Your choice of background music Is very pleasant. Very skillful And professional editing and narration.
I am from Detroit and have talked to Derek Steven's sitting at the end of the long bar several times, he's very approachable and friendly, I told him I was from Detroit and "voila", free beer
You know, nobody has said that before, but I think that description fits. 😊 Only thing is, the resorts didn’t have to pay anybody to get those long commercials!!
We don’t receive any gift cards or perks, for any video we do of the resorts - just FYI. The one and only exception was the Plaza downtown, last summer - they comped us a room and dinner. 😊
Just have earplugs at night when the bands start playing this summer on the street. Every side street seems to have something going. ( Only if you want to sleep.)
Good Afternoon from Tampa FLA!!! We have perm moved here and have put a bid on a new build in Ruskin FLA!!! This female born in 1950 hey Dale 1951 huh?? Twas a very good year huh!?!?!?!? Loved the Vlog so very much and so grateful to be out of the Chicago region. God it was cold!!! Lived there 3-4 months with my kids before the job promo to Tampa,!!! Love it here!!!
Welcome to the area! To me the hot & humid summers here are worth it for the mild winters. Just get ready for 4+ months of 90 degrees by day and 80 for the low at night, with humidity to match.
This is entertaining & educational facts I otherwise would never would have known 🙃. I wish I could remember seeing Fitzgerald’s b/c I definitely walked the area during Vegas vacations before 2012😅
as a Detroiter, i enjoy The D. i love how Derek Stevens bought some of us to Las Vegas (wish he would have chosen Lafayette Coney Island though instead of American). thanks for highlighting this property
I remember the old horse race slot. Glad they keep the vintage games around. Celebrate past, present and future. I used to go downtown and meet at the community center where interested entrepreneurs would gather to kick around ideas and crowd funding. Talk about building the Art district up and all as the Smith Center went up and the Clark County Government Building started hopping. A few get together events in the transforming casinos. I think I might finally book a stay there. I like the smaller but centered concept. The Vegas Strip has changed and not knocking it but it is large resort minded. Fremont is still a street festival. It may be the old New Yorker in me who used to walk a lot to fun.
This was a very interesting comment - as all of yours are. I think sitting down and talking Old Vegas memories with you would be fascinating. Your description of downtown is very apt!
Thanks for the look downtown. You mentioning the "coin in, coin out" slot machines reminds me of how that sound of coins hitting the tray is no longer heard. It was specifically designed to be noisy as it attracted slot players. I remember between my visits to Vegas that the "coin in, coin out" machines were phased out, and it was noticeably quieter on my next trip. Keep the great material coming!
If we finally make it out there this year, we're on the fence about whether to stay at the D or the Gold Nugget, so we can't wait to see that video too! Thank you so much for comprehensive tour of the D! We think this will help us decide after the Gold Nugget video comes out! Great video, as always!!!
Interesting…sort of like how people felt about Steve Wynn and the Strip? I don’t think it’s only Derek Stevens though…Tony Hsieh had a lot to do with the transformation, and the Goodmans as well, I think…
Really enjoyed this video. I will definitely have to visit the D when I come to Vegas soon. I like the mix of old and new slots. I also like you showing the video poker options in your videos as that is mostly what I play. Great editing as usual Dale!
Very nice, we have fun at the D. I recommend the casino floor Masseuse at the D, her name is Gianna or Gina.I got my neck & back massaged, while I played slots. All for 20$ 🍀👍🤠. We loved Fitzgerald’s back in the day. The D offers match play, when you show your southwest airline ticket.🎰🎲👍
Casino floor masseuse??! 😳 Now I’ve heard it all! The more we learn about the D and their unique perks, the more we like it. That match play idea is terrific.
D for Dale and Paula, good vlog. Enjoyed seeing the layout of the D, and you really cracked me up when you mentioned those plastic coin cups. 😄 I remember those in AC back in the 80's.
15:03 - "C'mon, lady... let's take a ride" I tried one of those rides once at a different location... It was in the morning and they were trying to get people to ride so I think the woman charge me 5 bucks. lol. The machine got the last laugh as I got that motion sickness feeling and felt awful for the 10 minutes or so after I got off. I don't think I'll be trying those again.
Dale is upbeat! I love it! You both are always so positive and inspiring. I love Fremont Street...always interesting! That is so true...there is no place else in the world like wonderful Las Vegas! Tina and I stayed at the Golden Nugget in 2019. It was nice. The pool is awesome. Tina and I have thought about having a dog from Coney Island many times, so maybe this trip in March we will try these Coney dogs. Tina and I have stayed at the D a couple of times, and we really like it. I would like to try Adiamo's - gotta try that New York Strip! We love Bar Canada...we always head into Bar Canada. Loved this video!
You are way ahead of us, on your Downtown experience! Seriously, this upcoming stay at Golden Nugget will be the only one, besides that comp at Plaza last year, that we have done since….well, decades ago. Looking forward to it, a lot. 😊
@@paulamckenzie - Well when we visit we like to stay in different places, but if I lived in or around Vegas like you guys, I would end up going home like Dale does anyway! I cannot tell you how many times I have checked out and driven back to Kingman when I was living out there!!!🤣🙂
Talked to couple that stayed on the 19th floor at the D. They said it was so loud from all the people at the “Fremont experience “ they could not sleep.
I like The D - used to gamble there when it was The Fitzgerald also (in fact - The Fitzgerald was the first major casino owned by an African-American. Don Barden -he was from Lorain, Ohio and was a councilman there (next city over from me). He then moved to Detroit and entered the cable business - then he bought The Fitz. I knew people who knew Barden and was comp'd at his place.
I had actually read that history, when I was researching this vlog, and Mr. Barden was indeed a very successful man! Thank you for sharing your personal recollections with us 😊
great video as usual i stayed at the fitzgerald in 2012 after dereck bought it they had just started work on the long bar while we were there, stayed again in 2017 love the place, thanls again you two. oh and dale i hope i can look that young at 70 im pushing 55 lol
I love all the tributes to Detroit/ Michigan. I'm right by the Motor City, and it all looks right to me. 👍👍 Those horse racing games are very cool! I know you can get a Coney dog there, but can you get Detroit style (aka the best) pizza? 😁🍕👍
Downtown Las Vegas is not for everyone - some visitors never ever go there. If your tastes run to Wynn, Bellagio, etc (and why not?), there is noplace better to enjoy a vacation. But, we do have a number of regular viewers who love the vibe of Downtown, wouldn’t stay anywhere else, so we do try to cover it every now and then.
We really enjoyed the video!! We haven't visited downtown Vegas yet, so we're looking forward to going when we're there next :). Being Canadian, we also want to go to Bar Canada! You said that you have Canadian connections, just curious as to what they are? :) Scott & Amanda
Hello! Dale’s whole family is from eastern Ontario, near the town of Picton. 🇨🇦🇨🇦 His ancestor came from Scotland in the mid-18th century with the British Army, received a land grant, and stayed…lots of McKenzies across Canada now. 😊
@@paulamckenzie So sorry to hear about the passing of Dale's dad 😥 LOVE the Canadian connection though! If we ever meet up with you and Dale in Vegas, it would be interesting to chat about! 🙂
Well we did not actually stay at the D - we did a walkthrough but did not book a room. We looked at the hotel booking calendar on the D website itself, and the weeknight rates started at $29 for the following week.
Hmm well we can put it on the list, but there isn’t a lot of content there. Dale used to play the slots there occasionally when we lived on the north side of town, and as I recall there aren’t a lot of extra attractions.
I would like you to do a DUCEBUS VIDEO I watch alot of vegas videos but no one has shown me where to get tickets for ducebus or how to get off where i want PLEAS!!!
So I was a little disappointed that you did not mention the original name for the casino as the Sundance and a little about the original owner Moe Dalitz. Also I think you misspoke that the D was the tallest building. It used to be until Derick built Circa😉 great work as always though
Yes perhaps you are right, maybe Circa is taller now. As for the Sundance and the further back history…the problem we always have is that this is a visual medium, and we don’t have any clips or photos of that history. So…we just briefly mention the most recent incarnation.
I got the impression you didnt actually stay at the D because you didn't mention how noisy it is in the rooms being under the canopy. I'm staying there next week and done a lot of looking into it and they've all mentioned that.
No, we didn’t stay - if we had, we would definitely have included a room tour in the vlog. And yes, for sure, noise is a factor at any hotel under the canopy… 😕
Awww he couldn’t believe this compliment! 🥰 He actually had cataracts very early - in his 40s - so when those were removed, he got new lenses that corrected his vision.
We watch these videos to watch you guys walk through through and experience things. With your personality’s. This felt more like a sales pitch for the D. Not good. Love you both though and enjoy 90% of your videos. Please rethink this kind of impersonal videos in the future
Mark, we appreciate you watching us, and taking the time to comment. The vast majority of our casino/resort walkthroughs are done like this, with voiceover and neither of us appearing. People seem to love seeing all that the resorts have to offer, so they can make decisions about whether to visit that property or not. We appear when we add a meal to the itinerary of course, or when we do an overnight stay, but our life just doesn’t always permit that. Meanwhile we still strive to put out entertaining and varied “virtual trips to Vegas” every week, in whatever way we can.
@@paulamckenzie Thank you for getting back to me Paula. But the people I know that watch your channel watching for you and Dale and through personalities and through your interactions
Thank you Paula for your reply but the people I know that watch your channel watch the for you and Dale‘s personalities and your personal reactions to the properties that we might be able to visit one day. If you say This is what you normally do then OK. But let me just tell you from the outside looking in from several people I know your best work it’s not what you do through a computer but through what you and Dale do personally
That was great, love The D.
I usually stay on the strip. D (or Fitzgerald in the past) is the only hotel I don't mind staying in downtown once in a while, and only because of their casino. Love their slots.

What a terrific compliment! I just made sure he saw it - thank you! 😊
Happy pres.. day u2
Thanks - I love that I don’t have to head off to work tomorrow 😊
Well you do listen to us, thanks I hope you have a great meal there, in the near future.
Of course we do - we read every comment, and I remembered your recommendation. 😊
@@paulamckenzie Wow, I am impressed: have you considered a video on Michael's Gourmet Room, at the Southpoint?
@@bodyloverz30 No actually we haven’t… we did dine at the Silverado Steakhouse over the holidays, but haven’t been to Michael’s
@@paulamckenzie It would be great if you could, I have seen no reviews from there.
I love all the tributes to Detroit/ Michigan. I'm right by the Motor City, and it all looks right to me. 👍👍 Those horse racing games are very cool!
I know you can get a Coney dog there, but can you get Detroit style (aka the best) pizza? 😁🍕👍
Hmm no, not at The D. But you can, out in the neighborhoods - there was a Detroit style pizza place right close to where we lived for 17 years…yummy!
Dale, how’s everything going?,Omg. superb done,see you later-🙂
Thanks so much, glad you liked it 😊
"ah-boot." I see what you did there.
🤣🤣🤣
I watch you guys all the time I usually like where you guys go that place was horrible me personally I only stay at the Wynn Bellagio& Caesars
I miss plastic buckets😿
So do we! 😊
Cute
We really enjoyed the video!! We haven't visited downtown Vegas yet, so we're looking forward to going when we're there next :). Being Canadian, we also want to go to Bar Canada! You said that you have Canadian connections, just curious as to what they are? :)
Scott & Amanda
Hello! Dale’s whole family is from eastern Ontario, near the town of Picton. 🇨🇦🇨🇦 His ancestor came from Scotland in the mid-18th century with the British Army, received a land grant, and stayed…lots of McKenzies across Canada now. 😊
@@paulamckenzieWOW! That's so cool! Have you and Dale been back to visit recently? (Pre-COVID) 😊
@@madaboutvegas2622 No, it’s awfully far and hard to get to from here. Last time we were back was 2007, when Dale’s dad passed away…
@@paulamckenzie So sorry to hear about the passing of Dale's dad 😥
LOVE the Canadian connection though! If we ever meet up with you and Dale in Vegas, it would be interesting to chat about! 🙂
Can you showcase that 30 dollar room? What site did you use to book it.
Well we did not actually stay at the D - we did a walkthrough but did not book a room. We looked at the hotel booking calendar on the D website itself, and the weeknight rates started at $29 for the following week.
Please do a tour of Arizona Charlie’s Decatur
Hmm well we can put it on the list, but there isn’t a lot of content there. Dale used to play the slots there occasionally when we lived on the north side of town, and as I recall there aren’t a lot of extra attractions.
I would like you to do a DUCEBUS VIDEO I watch alot of vegas videos but no one has shown me where to get tickets for ducebus or how to get off where i want PLEAS!!!
Hmmm ok we can put that on our ideas list - although I have to believe the map and stops would on their website?
I would of liked to see their rooms. ( at the D).
Yes of course, but we can’t always do a stay, unfortunately…
It’s ok... I am a Caesars Palace and Wynn snob! 😬
@@marleneroberts2257 Good kind of snob to be! 😆
My cousin Mark C. once owned the Pioneer Club. He said Wynn put him out of business. Anybody know the story ? Is the Pioneer just a gift shop now?
Yes it is a gift shop now, but we don’t really know the history…maybe Wikipedia has something?
Is the D's Keno Room, the last in Vegas?
No, definitely not. I remember doing other walkthroughs - Virgin hotel, Sam’s Town, Red Rock - which have keno lounges.
@@paulamckenzie Great to hear, they seem almost gone; like Casino Coffee Shops, and Casino Gourmet Rooms.
Love you guys!!! The " D " stands for what now??? I thought it was a different definition...
Lol well we found those 3 references in multiple places 😊
I got the impression you didnt actually stay at the D because you didn't mention how noisy it is in the rooms being under the canopy. I'm staying there next week and done a lot of looking into it and they've all mentioned that.
No, we didn’t stay - if we had, we would definitely have included a room tour in the vlog. And yes, for sure, noise is a factor at any hotel under the canopy… 😕
Vegas Vicky has not aged Vic looks little old to much cigarettes🤑🤑🤑
😂
Dale, do you wear contacts or did you have laser eye surgery? You're more handsome now than when you were 40!
