Hi Peter. great to see you back and well again. Heres a bit of friendly advice. I'm a Metrologist of 40 years service and work for a huge Medical Company. We have several old CNC inspection machines running on XP, 2000, Windows 7 etc that are all obsolete and unsupportable. For the cost of a Crucial 500GB SSD hard drive (80 bucks) you could Clone your MAZAK hard drive. If the drive goes down you could then just swop it out with the clone and you would be instantly back up and running again. We do this all the time and it works great. Love your videos, great work, Best Regards, Glenn.
Great to see you made it. Its hell to be the owner/operator of a very complicated piece of equipment. If anyone can do it, you can. Keep up the good work. And stay well.
Sorry you got it, glad it didn't kill you! Welcome back. I'm one of the ones who loves the long format, deep dive CAD CAM vids. Looking forward to it. Thanks
I never at anytime felt my life was in danger. That said I don’t want to go thru it again. I never felt like I couldn’t breath or even congested. For me it was totally different than they describe. After going thru it. My complaint is that there is no good information. Everyone has made all these assumptions with no scientific basis or research.
I'm 63 and had it, only really knew because I lost my sense of smell, so got tested. Wife was down for 3 days, but took 3.5 weeks to fully recover. After 10 days from symptoms onset you are not contagious. Funny how everyone still thinks I should get the jab...things are quite weird these days.
@@EdgePrecision There's plenty of scientific basis, problem is... there's various ways various people get it. Some get it bad. Horribly bad, for some... nada. Barely a flu. Either way, it's not something you want to get in the first place. Good to hear you're one of the folk who didn't get it bad.

Welcome back. glad to see I'm not along with maintenance issues on old equipment. I decided to close my shop and sell all the old CNCs rather than spend for new.
Glad you recovered fine. I also had it and it took me out of commission for about 2 weeks a few days before christmas. But i do love the videos that show the CAD and CAM in addition to the machining, so glad you are going to keep doing those.

Glad to see you’re doing better Peter. The WFL MillTurn M120 I ran did the very same thing. Millwrights had to disassemble the whole bottom of the machine and take out the conveyor. Had to replace the guides and the gear the conveyor wrapped around. My machine did the same thing would only move a few feet in earthier direction. It is a chore like you said. Sucked for me though. Backup batteries are one of those things where it REALLY doesn't pay to go cheap. Buy a name brand, buy it from someplace that sells enough that you don't have much chance of getting expired old stock. I learned the hard way about checking newly purchased batteries, glad to see you did at least check the voltage!

No the tool changer has specific locations no home return position. You need to jog each thing to a specific position. Than power the machine down in a special way to reset the encoders. Than it remembers those locations. It’s kind of weird but that’s the way they made it.

Its a G force sensor, super sensitive, any tipping of any major degree difference will set it off, other guys if it’s a hard crash will set them off. And yep mazak gives you a code to reset it. Works even on the smaller milling machines to make it ITAR compliant.
No this is actually a GPS sensor if your shop is large it can be tripped if you move the machine to the other side of the building. Maybe some newer machines have what you are describing. This older machine doesn't have that.
Hi Edge Precision, I have watched you for very long time. You were only one that uploaded Mazak videos and partially due to that I managed to get Technician job for Mazaks. So here is me repaying you somewhat: The location sensor is not GPS based, its basically motion sensors, if you move machine little bit it will lock it. But it doesn't know where machine is located. They are also located in small machines, as far as I know its more dependant on models accuracy then size if location sensor is present. Even some QT100 has them. The ATC drives remain powered on anyway unless main breaker is off. Also make sure you do backups at least once a year. Yes I did that when I set up this machine with the tool changer. But I just do want to have to go thru that again. It takes time on this large machine. This particular machine doesn't have a jog pendent on its hand wheel so it's very difficult so see the position of things from the control. I have to jog a little than get up the ladder look and go back to the control and so on. Its a pain. So better to be safe than sorry. But Thanks for the information.
Some machines do have gps, but this machine may be too old for it. The export regulations are for machines with >/= 5 axes, like large mill/turn machines, and also for high precision/accuracy CMMs. They found high accuracy and high precision mill/turn and CMMs in restricted countries (most notably Libya and Iran) that were trying to build centrifuges to enrich nuclear material to build nuclear weapons. There was a huge case where Mitutoyo executives were actually IMPRISONED after a court case exposed that they were habitually skirting export restrictions, after the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) found their CMMs in a Libyan uranium enrichment facility. Some ignorant people get mad at the companies that manufacture machines with these accelerometers, gyros, and GPS movement/location sensors, but it's actually legislation (from agencies like ITAR in the U.S.) that requires them to. It's actually really good that they're required to put devices to stop the export of the machines to such countries. You can read about it by searching Google for "NTI The Mitutoyo Case: Will Japan Learn from Its Mistakes or Repeat Them?"

Glad you are back. Being sick stinks, no matter what it is. Is this an old video or did being sick get you behind on work? I see you still have the big forgings in the machine.
If you open the mrj2 setup software you can select each axis and look at the alarms for each axis that will tell you which one has the fault no problem just make sure they have power when you change the batteries
Glad you're feeling better. Staying away from work after Covid is not a political issue. It is a common sense, science based practice. Do CNC machines have software licenses which expire? In my field, broadcast engineering, there are long license keys which sometimes need to be renewed.
Good to see a new video. Glad you recovered even if it took weeks. I think diseases are more a medical than a political issue. But yes some people get weird.
Yes I wasn't really referring to the virus itself. But there are people in this world that have used it to get what they want. Even now if you get sick with it there is no clear cut solutions. If the world had got together and studied for real solutions and not politicized things it would have been better.
Only good thing about getting it is you have at least some immunity now. And possibly a lot. The jabs are doing their thing and some places look kind of normal now. Won’t be long now. But could’ve been sooner for sure. I agree there.
Unfortunately the vaccine itself has become a political issue. In the beginning when the pharmaceutical companies wanted our tax dollars (USA) they said they would share the formula with everyone. But now its, well we don't trust anyone else to make it (Bill Gates). Even though India is one of the worlds largest vaccine producers and they really need it. But they wont share it with them. Just check what Ceo's have made tons of money and people have become billionaire's in the last six months. All people connected to the vaccine.
@@EdgePrecision Got the virus last year (mid March): kind of nearly killed me as where I am the hospitals had no idea what to do, if you could finish a sentence they didn't want to hear from you. Told my buddy if things get really bad just roll me up in a carpet, throw me back in the back of his horse trailer and dump me out in front of the nearest seemingly "competent" hospital. Just today I'm a week past my second shot, so should be good to go [maybe one day go back to the gym lol]. BTW looks like I'm going to pull the trigger on a Integrex J-200 in large part based on your videos and what's really possible (combined with other techniques) - so thanks a million for making these vids; (incredibly valuable - understatement ! :-) . ~ Sounds like you had a "Mutant" version of the (bloody) virus (Rolling eyes); hope you catch up and feel better.
Also your chip conveyor has a hole in it that has wore through that’s where your chips are coming from. Chips get in that cavity and bind up the conveyor Weld it up and you should be good
I am using Pinnacle LVT137 Mistubisi M80 control. I got the same issue . It give an alarm 🚨 for low battery voltage. I just simply change the battery 🔋 which were located near servo drives. And everything is alright and didn’t show me error anymore.
All new Mazak’s have the relocation device, not just the larger machines. Also, I may have missed it, but did you replace the CNC battery, usually located behind the monitor? (Actually, on Mazak CNC lathes at least, for that version control, the entire CNC unit is behind the monitor!)
That's what I referring to when I said in the controls computer. On my machine the Windows computer is behind the monitor and that's where the batteries are. Three CR 2032 flat Lithium cells.
I recommend you to buy oil skimmer, to cancel problem of oil in your coolant in the future. It separets oil form coolant (its like a filter). It help coolant to stay usefull way more longer. Also layer of oil on the surface of your coolant causes baceria and other nasty stuff to grow much more faster. It may causes skin problems. Before changing coolant it is usefull to clean whole coolant system. You can buy some chemical stuff which you add to old coolant and leave whole coolant system running for 8-16 hours (or longer). It kills all biologicall nasty stuff and helps to get rid off bad smell, old mud and dirt from coolant tank. I also reccomend you to use demineralised water to mix with new coolant. Demineralised water has no minerals inside and because of that bacterias has no 'food' to eat and thats why they grow much more slower in that mixture comparing to mixture with normal water :). Sorry for my poor english. To bad in my country CNC machinist are really bad payed. I left industry after 7 years because of that. Greeting form Poland and I wish you to be healthy! You are doing great job!
A skimmer wont work on this coolant system. It has one and it does no good. The tank is divided into many sections and most of it is under that long chip conveyer. The coolant isn't bad. There is no bacteria that's causing a problem in this system. A system that circulates the coolant out of the tank and cleans it than puts it back. Like a coalescer or a oil tramp separator would probably work. Our local water is fine to mix with the coolant (We have tested it). If I could bring myself to buy the filter system it would also help in filming the videos. Part of my problem with the camera is the oil in the coolant. You see I have put a lot of study into coolant. But its just my laziness and lack of doing anything about it is the real problem (And not wanting to spend the money):
On our Mazak, at the operator end of our chip conveyer, the axle and sprocket were completely worn out. Because it was welded together from the factory we had to cut open the conveyer with an angle grinder to replace all the moving parts. :/
Were you the one that sent me the photos of your conveyor? This one is also welded together and will have to be cut apart if I cant get the belt/chain out somehow. Thanks!
To clean up video audio, just look for and download Audacity (it's free), and it has, under Effects, a Noise Removal tool. Just select a section of audio where you're not speaking, to get only the background noise as a sample (Get Profile button), then apply to a section of speaking to see if you're happy with the settings before applying it to a bigger track. It would completely remove the machine noise from behind your voice ;) p.s. Don't export as mp3, use WAV for best quality
Though I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to commit to the process that much. I know making videos is already an effort, and I'm too lazy to do it myself for most things :P
Nice Video Peter.Yeah that Mazaks got many Batteries🙈That Position Battery that you mentioned has to Do with an deal mazak Haß done with many other machinetool builders. They all dont sell machines in "special" countrys .They dont want that their machines making parts for nuclear parts in country live northkorea and other Nationalmannschaft like These.if So someone out those countrys try to get a Used mazak from a machinedealer they had to say where she now Stays...they check that back and if the machine stays in a Land where she should Not stay you dont geht the code
Never got the vaccine. But now I don’t need to. But I’m thinking that they will make me get it if I want to travel to Mexico. To my property. We shall see.
@@EdgePrecision Glad to see you back. You look a little thinner and more chiseled. (My foolish heart be still. You actually are quite a handsome man.) Covid is a virus and we are an incidental host for it. I took the vaccine because it appears safe and it appears to effective.
@@JayKayKay7 Only one problem, it isn't a vaccine!!! It's dna altering chemicals. Research will scare you when you find the truth about what it really is.
hi Peter have you ever lost home position or lost soft limit on the B axis? i can home all axes but for the B axis (integrex 300) the TOOL CLAMP is flashing when i am in JOG mode MDI doesn't work Memory doesn't work; i keep getting the 324 (not referenced) alarm and 256 alarm if i try to home the B axis can you help?
No I have never had this problem. But from what you describe I would look into the tool clamp issue. You won’t be able to do anything if the tools not clamped.
Man you really need to get that conveyer fixed. Maybe just have someone come in and repair the conveyer. I have heard coolant companies that can come in and clean the coolant for you but I’m not sure about that. I need to replace the batteries inside my control panel and do a backup. I did replace all the batteries in the drives. But I’ve been afraid to open up the control panel. I don’t do as cool of work as you but I got a baby integrex 100ivst and it’s crazy how even on that tiny machine the z axis rails are still very far apart and there is 3 just like yours. So far I’m loving the integrex and would really like a bigger one.
@@EdgePrecision yea I haven’t quite figured out how to do that yet. Something I’ve been putting on the back burner but I really shouldn’t. I’m very interested in the cam aswell I mostly program in mazatrol and my machine is 5axis capable I just don’t know how to drive it.
I don’t know exactly. Maybe from observing others doing it. Or just kind of using common sense when you get a battery warning on a computer it’s the backup batteries. So I had just recently replaced those in this controls computer. So I called my Mazak repair guy I use (not Mazak). From the alarm number he said it was in one of the tool changers servo drives back up. So that’s how it normally goes. If the problem is beyond my abilities I call him to take care of it. He is really good with Mazaks.
That stuff doesn't shovel for nothing. Get a pickup magnet on a handle with the release lever. And don't even try to run it until the chips are gone, right down to the last bit or your going to cause more damage.
You need to call service guy to change battery. They will get a access code from export control department. two things involve this like you said relocation machine or change backup battery. the reason is machine tools is a control good due to it can produce destructive weapon, so machine tool company must identify and make sure selling the machine to right customers and location. otherwise company will be charged and ban for at least 5years and heavy penalties charge, whole mazak companys will be closed down until further notice. You can check this from MITI.
There is a gyro sensor at main electrical cabin. no matter how you move the machine or bypass or jump switch the sensor, it will auto lock down your controller .
The procedure is. If you get the alarm don't power the machine down with this alarm. Back up everything in the control if its the controls batteries!!! Find out witch batteries need to be replaced. Get the proper batteries and replace them WITHOUT POWERING THE MACHINE DOWN. Once the new batteries are installed properly power the machine down and back on like I did in this video. Sorry I don't have any PDF files on this.
Good to see an Edge Precision notification! hope you're doing well Peter.

If you open the mrj2 setup software you can select each axis and look at the alarms for each axis that will tell you which one has the fault no problem just make sure they have power when you change the batteries
So glad u´re doin well, Peter...take Vit. D to maintain the risk low....
Glad you're feeling better. Staying away from work after Covid is not a political issue. It is a common sense, science based practice.
Do CNC machines have software licenses which expire? In my field, broadcast engineering, there are long license keys which sometimes need to be renewed.
Not the machine itself but the cad and cam software you run on the computer do.
They SHOULD be a medical issue, but you always get some idiots that have to make it a political one.
COVID can't bring down a great machinist!
Very interesting, thanks.
Thank gosh your ok.
Welcome Bak
Also your chip conveyor has a hole in it that has wore through that’s where your chips are coming from. Chips get in that cavity and bind up the conveyor
Weld it up and you should be good
real world machining !!!
I am using Pinnacle LVT137 Mistubisi M80 control. I got the same issue . It give an alarm 🚨 for low battery voltage. I just simply change the battery 🔋 which were located near servo drives. And everything is alright and didn’t show me error anymore.
Does the chip conveyor swing out the front of the machine like on my ‘83 MAZAK slant 40.
👍👍
Thanks!
@@EdgePrecision Nope, wasn't me. :P
Also back up the hard drive on a Mazak. It has the most recent parameter settings on it.
This is something I need to do. Thanks.
It would completely remove the machine noise from behind your voice ;)
p.s. Don't export as mp3, use WAV for best quality
Though I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to commit to the process that much. I know making videos is already an effort, and I'm too lazy to do it myself for most things :P
老哥 请问你那个四爪卡盘上的软爪是自己做的吗?😂😊😊
Nice Video Peter.Yeah that Mazaks got many Batteries🙈That Position Battery that you mentioned has to Do with an deal mazak Haß done with many other machinetool builders. They all dont sell machines in "special" countrys .They dont want that their machines making parts for nuclear parts in country live northkorea and other Nationalmannschaft like These.if So someone out those countrys try to get a Used mazak from a machinedealer they had to say where she now Stays...they check that back and if the machine stays in a Land where she should Not stay you dont geht the code
Glad you are back and survived the 19 jab.
Never got the vaccine. But now I don’t need to. But I’m thinking that they will make me get it if I want to travel to Mexico. To my property. We shall see.
@@EdgePrecision Glad to see you back. You look a little thinner and more chiseled. (My foolish heart be still. You actually are quite a handsome man.)
Covid is a virus and we are an incidental host for it. I took the vaccine because it appears safe and it appears to effective.
@@JayKayKay7 Thanks Jay Kaye!👍
@@JayKayKay7 Only one problem, it isn't a vaccine!!! It's dna altering chemicals. Research will scare you when you find the truth about what it really is.
@@dannywilsher4165 Please explain to me how it's DNA altering
hi Peter have you ever lost home position or lost soft limit on the B axis? i can home all axes but for the B axis (integrex 300)
the TOOL CLAMP is flashing when i am in JOG mode
MDI doesn't work
Memory doesn't work; i keep getting the 324 (not referenced) alarm
and 256 alarm if i try to home the B axis
can you help?
No I have never had this problem. But from what you describe I would look into the tool clamp issue. You won’t be able to do anything if the tools not clamped.
Coolant tank Hell never like cleanjng mine, but afterward I feel like I'm ready to do the business
Crazy, we had COVID at similar time frame. Month of may has been ruff
It moves only 78 inches per minute
*That scene from austin power movie tho
Good video for lunchtime. Just got into cnc 3 years ago, beats the hell out of structural welding.
Cheaper to fix conveyor than those way covers that are grinding away on all those chips
Of course do the backup first. Especially the machine parameters. I have seen it done but it is hell to enter all of them by hand.
How did you learn all this?
I don’t know exactly. Maybe from observing others doing it. Or just kind of using common sense when you get a battery warning on a computer it’s the backup batteries. So I had just recently replaced those in this controls computer. So I called my Mazak repair guy I use (not Mazak). From the alarm number he said it was in one of the tool changers servo drives back up. So that’s how it normally goes. If the problem is beyond my abilities I call him to take care of it. He is really good with Mazaks.
Is shoveling those chips out bothering your shoulder? I think it was your shoulder that was hurt wasn’t it?
Yes it hurts a little. But I think the exercise is good for it. Thanks.
That stuff doesn't shovel for nothing. Get a pickup magnet on a handle with the release lever. And don't even try to run it until the chips are gone, right down to the last bit or your going to cause more damage.
i want to see that clean out video
Can you use mastercam on mazak or there is another software that works better.
Anything which supports the Mazak EIA format. Mastercam would certainly work but for 5-axis there are certainly better solutions.
Yes you can use MasterCam. I use Esprit TNG.
10:59 "Windows 2000 Professional"? How quaint.
Can you share any PDf or PPT files like this
Battery backup procedure
The procedure is. If you get the alarm don't power the machine down with this alarm. Back up everything in the control if its the controls batteries!!! Find out witch batteries need to be replaced. Get the proper batteries and replace them WITHOUT POWERING THE MACHINE DOWN. Once the new batteries are installed properly power the machine down and back on like I did in this video. Sorry I don't have any PDF files on this.
Change the driver battery 👍🏻
