I've been very particular about the things I purchase, where they are from, and whether or not I really need it. Moreover, I share this with my family and friends and they are all on the same page. Happy to buy tools from Taiwan to support their growth, and I'll always look for USA-made products. You'd be surprised how often there is a US-alternative when you didn't think there was one.

I've found that the QC of made in Taiwan is significantly beter than that of Chinese made tools.
Regarding hand tools, the following is the order of preference:
USA (I beleive in supporting my fellow Americans)
Japanese/German (in general the quality is superior to domestically produced tools, howver they are generally outside of my budget and even when they are, I'm not in aerospace or anything like that, so the lower precision of US made tools is still excellent for me)
Taiwan. The quality is often on par with domestic produced tools while being the least expensive than the same type of tool produced in the US, Japan, or Germany. Also if I need/want a kit or set they are still the least expensive route to go.

All four of them got transferred to Mexico, a lot closer to home. I felt bad about my former employees, but it is really hard to invest and do business in China right now. Chinese economy relies heavily on foreign investors, without them, the whole country would ceased to exist. If the trend doesn't change, we would probably witness a cathasthropic downfall of a once thriving economy. The problem is not the ordinary working people, it's the local government and CCP itself. I have known a lot of well to do, elite, rich Chinese people during my time in China, done business with them in past, surprisingly, they're all gone. Found out about a month ago that they all left the country with their riches, some end up in Europe, North America, Japan, and South east Asia. I think one hurtle to overcome is the fact that many Americans have experienced what I’ll call “the cheap competitor doom syndrome”. Generations of Americans have bought cheap foreign goods made in Japan meant the same thing as for my parents growing up the 60s as made in Taiwan meant for me growing up in the 90s. We’re Detroiters and in our own generations were appalled at US companies readiness to outsource jobs to Mexico or cease competition with Japan in certain heavy industries to focus on a service driven economy. While there has been a domestic resurgence in manufacturing the past left it’s mark. Japan was once an enemy for my grandparents and outsourcing jobs to Mexico because companies didn’t have to pay the same salary & benefits was derided at the time by many. However Japan & Mexico are friendly democratic countries the CCP is not friendly as you have very eloquently expressed in many videos. Clearly China isn’t going to liberalize and open up with investment but for those not paying attention it seems like business as usual. I’m glad to see new factories related to EV manufacturing, battery production & logistics going up on my daily commute but I can’t convince my parents to care enough to use cultivate for example. China’s influence campaign & large companies including media fear of offending the CCP leads to the dire nature of what’s going on to fall flat on delivery. My parents don’t watch RUclips, go on Reddit or subscribe on Patreon where many of the best sources of independent information are available. Keep doing what your doing, my comment is partially a thought exercise musing on the same difficult questions you’re helping to answer.

They probably won't, but what would happen if those cheap products from overseas stopped being exported to where I live, Vancouver? Could Canada support everyone without importing things? No more phones, for a start, probably not enough food and if there is there wouldn't be much variety. There certainly wouldn't be enough jobs because so many would be obsolete without exporting/importing.

Companies are moving out of China in a tsunami which has to hurt but even though they still hold a monopoly of something like 90% of world production in the refinement of raw materials that goods are manufactured from. ie. Lithium.

There are so many opportunities in taking back what has been outsourced to china. The West has been the developer of virtually everything that's currently used by developed countries. The chinese have the advantage of a large obedient workforce that enables lower production costs. The chinese have also been successful in making Western consumers accept lower quality in favour of lower prices. We should be able to challenge both of these chinese advantages and bring manufacturing back to where it belongs. Shipping costs are much lower if manufacturing is done in the West and selling the consumer on better quality should not be impossible.

It may be time for the West to accept that maximizing profits for a few is not the best way to manage our country's economies. We as individuals are the consumers and we decide how and where we spend our money. Change typically happens slowly but we have to start some time to recover what we have lost. chinese food products are not as well received in the West as other chinese manufactured products because of an awareness that their low standards present an immediate threat to our health. We need to become aware that chinese manufacturing in general is a threat to our economic and political health as well.

To have a life and make a profit. Americans need to restructure our government to work for people who live here and run their businesses from here. If importers want competable tariffs they should have to build at least a third of their product(s) here. Other tariffs should give local products an edge by raising the price on the import to at least be even with local prices.

tbf in china there are some cultural pressures involved too
face culture's a two-way street and it exists to an extent in most of east asia - mainland china's just the worst of all of them. part of face culture isn't just your own, but people there do care about the appearance of infallibility in others and will even vote with their wallet, valuing companies with the appearance of dignity over companies that have the best reviews etc. china's the worst of the lot (why they struggle at luxury), but it's also led to a severe overworking problem (one so bad that it's creating a demographic crisis) in south korea that's proven so difficult to crack that the gov there is trying to actively introduce some western ideals into south korean culture in sheer desperation

Getting away from China still just seems impossible for so many different reasons. Global trade isn't simple anymore and is starting to become a headache. Without China there's no telling what the world would have been. Idk I'm only 30. Idk the world before China. I just know the global population was a lot smaller, younger, poorer. Now we're so wrapped up in this economy that's clearly completely falling apart all over the place. Man this is going to be painful.
