Jane and Steve had a wonderful marriage. I think it's because first of all they were friends and second of all they had the gift of enjoying life. I knew many people who worked with both of them and said they were simply wonderful people.
Jane and Steve were such a great couple...drenched in sophistication and talent and so much a part of the Baby Boomer's first t.v. memories....Rest in peace, and thanks for the memories.
I just love these episodes; so classy, yet down to earth, refined, great sense of humor, articulate! Steve Allen, so handsome & Jayne, beautiful couple ❤️
Steve always made great comments between his questions. This is great to see the two of them right after they were married. Talk about dedicated to their profession. It was also nice to see the ladies on the panel stand up when shaking Jayne's hand, for a change.
i don't like her hair. she's not particularly pretty. her figure is unremarkable. but man, she is a *_DOLL_* her wit, humor, grace, elegance....and she's got a slightly hidden _sauciness._ im so enamored.
@@vilstef6988 emphatically agreed. in the clip i include in this comment i think she looks possibly the best i ever saw. additionally, her _sauciness_ is on display in the scene beginning at 6:44 ruclips.net/video/p6wxrLjJobM/видео.html
Steve Allen Performed one of his last shows at North Hollywoods "Palamino" club on Lankershim blvd in 1989. Kind of a cowboy venue. He was just as funny as ever. Super nice guy! We all miss him.
I've posted this before, but I believe that Arlene was the best and most intelligent panelist on the the best and most intelligent game show in the history of television. Amen.
They got married July 31st in 1954, for months after I came into this world. I was very young in their hay day but I do remember some stuff they did in the 60s. In other videos on these two, I thinks its amazing how they've matured and grew as the years went by. R.I.P Jayne, I wish I could've known you better through the years.
Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows remained married together until Allen's death in 2000. Their marriage lasted roughly close to a half-century. Meadows is still alive, having celebrated her 93rd birthday within the past month or so.
Not too long ago I came across a film noir that she appeared in in 1947 called "Lady in the Lake", featuring Robert Montgomery as the detective Phillip Marlowe. It's a rather unique film for the time, considering that the majority of the film comes from the point of view of Marlowe, meaning you never actually saw too much of him, except when he's telling parts of the story or if you see his reflection in the mirror. It really is good.
I hope she's in good health. She always seemed to be such a nice person and I always thought she was such a beautiful woman. They seemed so right for each other. Steve had such a great sense of humor and was a talented man. He wrote over 10,000 songs (yes, 10,000)!!!
They were both brilliant intellects without being dull. Mr. Allen wrote numerous books also, some of which criticized the state off public & university education as being totally inept in preparing people for the real world. I have one of his books called "DUMBTH: The Lost Art of Thinking." Published in 1998 just 2 years before he died. A GREAT read!
I remember when he was on talk shows in the 90s telling a story about a young waiter who didn’t know what orange marmalade was. He then went on saying how dumb people have become, using that as an example. I have to say I was a bit unimpressed by his anecdote of the waiter. I saw it as he was now an old man who hadn’t realized that the times are marching on and what he saw as important was now irrelevant. I say this with all respect and love for Mr Allen, as we all think the new generation is dumb or lazy. In reality, what we are seeing is ourselves as youths from an older person’s point of view.
@@alabhaois yes, as much as Arlene and Dorothy were the best panelists, it was John's show. It was he that attracted the cultural movers and shakers on the show, not the panelists, or producers. Absolutely amazing! I was a child in the 50s & 60s, and this show formed me.
The joke at 3:46 that got such a loud audience reaction, was that what she “performed” the day before was that she got married (and the subsequent honeymoon).
My parents and I stayed in Steve Allen's Palm Springs, California winter home in the summer of 1964...Our mom who was from Cuba, met Jayne Meadow's hairstylist as a teen back in the 1930's in Cuba, and in 1964 they found each other in Los Angeles again, so one day Jayne Meadows let her take us all to their home without ever meeting us...My mom's friend, ( Jayne's hairdresser ) was named Loretta....To this day, this seems like a fantasy to me, but it is the pure truth...Sierra Cuban, Miami, FL
I wonder if Jayne Meadows remembers hollering "Back up! Don't you know who I am?!" at an older woman in a grocery store when their shopping carts bumped/crossed paths in Brentwood Calif back in October 1962. (My mother shared that with me just now, as she was telling me about going to a grocery store during the Cuban Missile Crisis and finding it almost completely cleaned-out.) Unfortunately, the older woman backed up and let Ms. Meadows go first. Sometimes it's best not to meet our celebrities. But nowadays they have to watch how they treat people, since almost everyone has a videocamera cellphone! I'd probably back up too, but not without laughing and saying "Sure, jackasses first."
Knowing me, I would probably think it was one of my wife’s friends who I failed to recognize. Then I would apologize still thinking it was a friend and back up. Yes, I am that bad.
Jane and Steve had a wonderful marriage. I think it's because first of all they were friends and second of all they had the gift of enjoying life. I knew many people who worked with both of them and said they were simply wonderful people.
aww, jayne looked at him so adoringly
They do not make ladies like this anymore. Pure class!
And they DID have a very long and happy marriage...one of the BEST in the field of entertainment! Great people!!!
I am now 96yrs old and I still thoroughly enjoy watching the reruns of “what’s My Line”. A clean, sophisticated and vey enjoyable program.

Love how Arlene always words her 'kills'.............true class.
So precious..God rest them both.
Jayne Meadows what a lovely person.

Arlene is so brilliant. We will never have celebrities like these again.
She was very quick witted and focused with her questioning.

R.I.P. Jayne Meadows.
3:53 - That all-knowing smile on Arlene's face coupled with the audience's reaction = EPIC WIN!
Slam dunk!

Mr. Daly's wish or prediction at the end certainly came to pass. RIP Jayne.
I was about to say that John's well-wishes for a long & happy marriage to Steve & Jayne certainly came true!

Love Arlene's smile when she figures it out! Lol.

Yes. Steve was a genius and one of the funniest men ever to appear on TV.
I remember when he was on talk shows in the 90s telling a story about a young waiter who didn’t know what orange marmalade was. Back when celebrities at least appeared polite, well mannered, well spoken, and well dressed. I miss part of these times.
Jayne and Audrey... Lovely.
Jayne Meadows Allen LOL
for the umpteenth reason, Arlene and Dorothy make this show
I love Steve and Bennett-- and John Daley as well!!!
Classy, no?
Dorothy was only second to Arlene.

Steve: "Sounds like Minnie Mouse up to know", ooooooh Steve was probably in trouble afterwards, lol
In Steve's defense, she did sound like Minnie.
I just loved Jayne's falsetto voices in the Mystery Guest segment!

THANK YOU!! I missed this one so much.
I don't know why John didn't start the questioning with Steve Allen,
what a babe...still...classy lady...hope she lives to two hundred
Yes it was a long happy marriage for Steve and Jayne that lasted 46 years until his death in 2000.
She was a wonderful character actress, and under contract at M-G-M in the forties. Check out her performance in " Lady in the Lake ".

she sounds like Lilly Tomlin sitting in the huge laugh in chair when she says no
How could she possibly guess Jayne Meadows with the questions that were asked? She couldn't.
RIP
@fairyfellermaster I so agree but there are so few celebrities left with any class.
Jayne Meadows fue una actriz estadounidense nacida en China el 27 de septiembre de 1919 y fallecida el 26 de abril del 2015.
According to the Internet Movie Database, Miss Meadows is currently 93yo & living in Encino, CA.
@Taharah007 About 46 years. Unheard of in the celebrity world these days.
Looking lovely. Isn’t ageing cruel
And she's still alive at 92.
how long were they married?
God knows.
