I like to call it a simplified life. It’s not just the stuff but simplified everything, schedule, commitments, stuff I buy, people etc

I have moved to a more minimalist lifestyle as well. I don’t want to have to manage so much stuff.
You’re exactly right about revisiting an area and deciding you can get rid of even more stuff. I’m in the process of Swedish Death Cleaning. After 3 passes going through my storage loft, I have eliminated 90% of the stuff. It took me a bit to realize it was okay to get rid of some things I’d held onto for years.
    I’m a fellow Gen-Xer and appreciate your content. 😊
    Thanks for sharing!

My why was because I had too much stuff and nowhere to put it. I had stuff on the floor, new groceries sat on the counter because I had older food in the cupboards (but not expired) and I felt my home was going to become nothing but pathways (not that bad, but bad enough). Two things happened that changed my mind…the first was an earthquake (5.2) and anything in my home higher than waist level ended up on the floor. I couldn’t determine which room was the worst…well ok, it was the kitchen, with the soy sauce bottle that broke and the smell lingered for months! Anyway, I went to my local grocery store and got a dozen+ boxes. As I was cleaning up, the stuff I wanted to keep went into the boxes. What was not trash was donated. I got rid of 40% of my belongings (not the way I wanted to do it, but in the long run,it worked). Once I had gone through the house and got all the donations and trash out, I went through the boxes again and made the final decision to keep or not keep. The book by Dana White “Decluttering at the Speed of Life” was a game changer or AHA moment for me. If I did not have a place (or home within my home) to put something, did I really needed it? A few years later, I moved into my forever home, which has very little storage and I ended up getting rid of 20% more stuff. My only vises now are clothes (but I’ve gone from 9 totes down to 2 totes! And my books…got rid of 50% but it’s a work in progress. The whole process changed me for the better. It is like a weight has been lifted that I did not know was there. I have room in my cupboards and closets, my counters remain clear, except for the daily stuff and I no longer panic when someone comes over.

Thank you so very much for sharing your story. It is incredible the weight that decluttering can take off our shoulders. Because it is such an insidious problem we often times don't realize it is happening before it is too late. Thank you again for contributing and being here! I appreciate it more than you know.

Enjoyed your video and am behind your quest 100%. I am a woman in her late 70's who just sold her home and renting a tiny ADU. I have started my journey to minimalism not only out of necessity but because I have always been interested in this process but never too successful. Start, stop, start....you get it. Now approaching the project going slowly and being mindful of where the recycled stuff goes that might also help others. Subscribed!

It’s very freeing. I’m in the process of getting rid of STUFF. We have lived in the same house for almost 40 years….lots of stuff!

Yes, I can only image after 40 years. Good luck - and you've got this. Keep me update on how it goes.

The one thing we all need is cilantro. Cilantro is the way of the future.

I'm not sure what that has to do with decluttering or minimalism, but I agree! Love the stuff!

The reason that I am decluttering is because in 2016 ..I suffered from a cervical spine injury..bone spurs grew into my spine...suffered a myelomalacia at C-5 and C-4 thru C-7 was compressed...had a corpectomy and fusion..left leg partially paralyzed and spasticity and allodynia in my legs and especially in my arms..resigned fromy nursing job..was a nurse for 35 plus years..ended up on disability...nothing as far as decluttering happened until fall of 2023 when I had a bad fall and broke my right humerus in to ...compression fracture in my thoracic spine as well as my lumbar spine..hospital stay was 2 weeks ...they called my family in twice due to practically dying then over 3 weeks in a rehab center..when I came home I still needed a lot of assistance..as soon as I was well enough I started decluttering..which wasn't until May of 2024...I do not want anyone having to sort through all my stuff..leaving a burden on my 34 year old daughter and my 24 year old son who still lives with me..and my younger sister who took me to so many doctors appointments that I cannot even count also so much easier to maintain and I am still working on it every single day as my stamina isn't what it used to be..it's a work in progress but I am committed to get this done and also have not and will not bring another thing into this house except for food and essentials needed to clean, laundry etc..and then after completely my first go around I will be continuing to go through everything again..I have already went through my clothing a second time as to what I haven't wore this summer is going..and will do the same after winter is gone..I watch all your videos and when you decluttered the sentimental things it certainty opened my eyes and gave me the tools that I needed to get rid of so many things
..and I thank you for that..and your video on your back pain and for that matter your video on aging..I am 62 years old and every video that you have made feels like it is designed for me...Thank you from the bottom of my heart..thank you for sharing your life and your tools with us..May you be blessed always!!!!

Real minimalists don't have rules about what minimalism is. E.g. Fumio Sasaki in his book Goodbye Things.
