Really enjoyed hearing Gerry talking about these fantastic cars and with such an understated but genuine passion for them. A couple of dodgy looking characters hanging around in the background from just before 2:00 minutes though (Me and Rob!) We didn't realise you were filming!
I am annoyed some time ago that the staff of Lister Bell (LB Cars) had me to believe that Jerry's cars are not exact replica's like "theirs", I have since learnt it's the other way around, Gerry's cars are the exact replicas.
Yeah, Gerry's cars are as close as it gets. However, like a lot of Italian dream cars, the originals are actually kind of shit! LB's whole deal is being like the Singer of Stratos'. Almost nothing to do with the originals but share the spirit and use fancy modern bits. I do agree with you though, LB cast some shade on Hawk's using all kinds of "donor" car parts. Well the real ones are just slapped together out of all kinds of dodgy Fiat parts anyways!
I saw Sandro Munari competing in period in 1976, in a rally in South Africa. My father showed me at the time, that the brakes were water cooled, with a mechanism that sprayed water onto the discs. I've never been able to ascertain whether that modification was maintained in later years.
A real nice guy who knows his cars and is passionate about detail.
