The engine alone was probably in the region of £4000, it was completely stripped and rebuilt using all new Alfa Romeo parts. The 166 dual mass flywheel was replaced with a single mass flywheel from an Alfa 156, this means the engine needs to be totally re-balanced. The bores were glaze busted and new rings fitted, the cams were reprofiled to give a higher lift and the valves were re-profiled.
My most favorite car design as a child. I wanted the RC from Radio Shack for Xmas, I received a Lamborghini. I said Lancia Stratos, it is the thought that counts.
This car is so pretty :) Great job. Did you know there was interesting Stratos' drivetrain swap in 1977 in Poland? Polish rally driver Andrzej Jaroszewicz crashed Stratos into tree. Front end was badly damaged but engine and rear suspension was good. Polish engineers took engine and rear suspension of Stratos and put it into FSO Polonez. Car was named StratoPolonez and was racing till 1985. Car was extremely hard to handle even after using... 350mm wide rear tyres :)
Whilst I have never driven in my life this car has always been a favourite of mine, from the styling to the just about controlled madness of it. And as for that engine sound, well it gives me that fizzing sensation in my gentleman's area that James May has talked about.
You should build one, the Hawks a great car, this one has an Alfa V6 24v from a 166 with a Q2 diff and 6 speed gearbox. The engine has a 11:1 Comp ratio, AH Motosport high lift cams, std pistons and custom Simpson st/stl exhaust. The engine ECU is OMEX 710, redline is 7500rpm and running on Shell V Power.
*almost* the right noise! Is this the Alfa motor? I had a 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV 6-2.5 mille miglia quadrafoglio...not a power beast, but a true curve-slicing pleasure to drive.
Do you think it would be possible to get more revs out of this engine? Lightweight internals, pistons, connecting rods etc? A comprehensive engine rebuild? Or would the revs be ultimately limited by the valvetrain?
@@LoekM_02 while the stratos v6 is one of the best sounding engines 4g63 personally for me is the worlds best sounding 4pot u haven't heard the sound have u?
How else would you tune the engine if not on a dyno, this was a brand new engine with a brand new ECU, a dyno isn't used just to tell you how much horsepower you have.
This is a modified 294bhp Alfa Romeo 3.0 V6 engine. Not brand new. Rebuilt with new rods, pistons, cams and balanced crank. Heads And valves have been modified too.
Not to worry. The idiots who have been driving up the prices of cars and everything else, will soon be dead or running for their lives. Prices will come down. We will all celebrate and dance on their graves..

What an amazing sound from a beautiful car! I could listen to that all day!

+Shannmeister you know your cars, have THE passion for it and you picked the best of the best all on your own. Nice work.

Hi ! - they're mentioned at the beginning - 294 bhp @ 7450 rpm - 225 ft-lb Torque ... and a weight of only 930 kg !

Impressive.
Love this car, dream car for me
Stratos,Delta,037,when Lancia ruled. Now,in the official Lancia website it'written "Lancia,Fashion city cars",such a shame.
You forgot a couple. Fulvia, Stratos, 037, Delta S4, and Delta Integrale. All of them rally royalty.
i know they belong to different worlds but I would really love to see a stratos competing on a track with an alfa 4c. Two spectacular tiny monsters.
I'll take it...
and I even like the color/livery.
Aaaaah, "even like the color/livery." That's the only proper livery suited for a Stratos, even a reprod car. In honor of the original champion car.
That engine sounds like the 9th C5 on the aria "A mes amís" from La Fille du Regiment.
294 bhp is a little bit more than the championchip car had. It had 250-270 bhp.
..or 280, but this is one meashured on the wheels

Magnificent!

omg! its wheeljack!!
Sounds amazing..!!
Sounds nice
The figure of 294 bhp - Was that actual at the wheels or calculated at the flywheel ?

How much money i mean i will buy one for sure now or when im 70
around 55-70K USD
what tires are you running at the rears?
Those tyres are Michelin TB15's, a superb tyre, I'm also now running a new set of Pirelli P7 Corsa's.
Is there an even restricted choice of engines to be mounted on the Hawk chassis ?
You can pretty much install any engine that will fit within the chassis, straight four, V6 or even a V8. The ideal engine is the Alfa V6.
@@Tiger332 Thanks for infos !
やっぱエンジンの省スペース化かつ軽量化でトルクを稼ぐならV6でしょ
Omg right hand drive??? No comment...
Is it me, or it sounds like a v6, like a medium size turbo or it might be the carmra microphone when the car is at high rpm.
It was quite loud at high rpm and I suspect it was giving my microphone a hard time as you say.
@@Tiger332 ok, do you have a decibel meter to measure how loud the exhaust is.
Is that the alfa v6 where abouts are you based
what engine is this?
intake chip and?
What power that lotus has. It is incredible.

I got weird idea:
Take a MR2, convert it to stratos and swap it with 2GRFE.

Sounds like 140rwhp needs a more power 4g63 swap
You don't want to much power in a stratos.
dude really, a four pot swap? do you want to make it a boring sounding car?
