@King Brilliant ....and now look at the backlash Petrolicious has, first Turtle Wax ads within the video and now trying to get membership for special vids, how the mighty have fallen.
I have a Stratos in my Garage. He was very very expensive. But...You know..there are simple Rallye Cars and there is a Stratos. A Stratos is Not only a Car. IT is a passion
My favourite rally car! I’m from Kenya, we’d follow the Safari for the full 5 days. The stratos was incredibly loud and we would hear in for a good 5 mins before we saw it. Would love to drive one....and own one!!
Such an incredible story about a sympathetic and enthusiastic owner...just think of all the nine-and-ten-year-old children whose motoring passions will have been awakened by his mission to use and show the Stratos in the environments which it was designed for! A brilliant way to pay JOY forward...CHEERS! 🏁
i was a kid living in new york, when my dad bought me a toy stratos. we didnt know anything about rally, or any car outside american car companies. closest we knew of was the general lee dodge charger. i remember thinking that the toy wasnt a real car, being radically styled. i lost it at a laundry mat, and as time passed, the memory faded. years later, while playing a game called sega rally, i saw my car. the stratos. i got excited, and was telling my dad, thats my car! ive been obsessed with this car since those days. to this day, its the only car that brings tears to my eyes. its perfect. the sound, the look, and the skill required to drive it. its my mexico. its the only thing on my bucket list. its literally all i want. of course, ill never afford one, never see one in person, never hear it in life. all i got is these videos, video games, and dreams. i hope that anyone who has one, or has driven one, knows how blessed they are.
I was working as a shop fitter and working late when the RAC came through Exeter in the Haldon forest . I just had to duck out to see it come through much to the annoyance of the rest of the gang that night. You could hear it coming in the distance and you knew right away what it was and then it appeared sideways and in a cloud of dust and was gone . I am 78 know and will always remember that night.
People NEVER find classic cars. Classic cars always finds the owners. Some how the cosmos matches passion with passion Every single classic car I have owned ( many ) I was looking for that specific model ,But the car always found me. Great car great story.....my car growing up that grabbed my Passion by the tail into the sports car world in the Very Early 70s was a GT 40. A long story but I enjoyed your story, very much.
I recall the Lancia Stratos - a vehicle that sounded like a giant angry mosquito killer with many eyes and a tire atop its head. I used to watch the rally as a kid about 30-40 years ago. It used to be called the East African Safari Rally and was WRC then. I remember waking up late in the night to listen to the radio announcement of the points garnered by my favorite driver. I remember the Italian team with their Lancia Stratos trying again and again to win the rally to no avail, always retiring due to mechanical issues. Several car manufacturers built safari rally special cars. The rally would run over 5,000 km spanning 3 countries (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) in a week. It was grueling and drivers drove day and night. It was considered (as the current rally is) as the toughest rally in the world. Punishing to the drivers, service personnel and the vehicles. Add elephants, lions, giraffes, into the mix and you have one great, great rally adventure.
This car is a true legend and for me the most iconic rally car of my era. I want the soundtrack of a Stratos at full bore in the forest played at my funeral. To get the chance to drive one would be incredible. Top marks for restoring it to safari spec👍
*Designed and Build for one purpose and one purpose only - TO DECIMATE EVERYTHING ON THE RALLY STAGES!!! Their rivals maked racing cars ...Lancia created a Legend! Stratos - The Rally Queen* *Forza Lancia!* 🇮🇹
I too am one of those 50 (is) year old men who have never been able to get this car out of my head having seen it at the RAC rally in 1975 although I only watched it on the TV, I have seen roller skates with a longer wheelbase it must be terrifying to keep on top of!
Nothing can match the sound of a stratos going through the dovey forest in mid wales ,on the RAC rally, thank you brought back memories of my teens ,I'm a pensioner now but still a petrol head.
Much love and respect David all the way from Egypt. You have done an amazing job. Do keep driving and enjoying it. You probably spark dreams for people every time they see and hear your Stratos :)
just fantastic respect for this man rebuilt piece history 1970s and 80s rallying never forgot today rallying to technical and little bland aprt from isleman manx rallying just amazing respect
The closest I ever got to the Stratos was a diecast model I owned as a kid while living behind the Iron Curtain. I did not know much about it, but loved the shape and felt it was a very special car. Thank you for the video. I feel your passion for this car.
I only lived behind floral curtains but I too had a die cast model of a Stratos as a kid. I knew nothing of the car, but was fascinated by the unusual design, was always my favourite .
Well done. A young boy's romance with a car that is never fully forgotten. Haven't we all experienced that love affair. Very proud for you and I must say there are few men better in the world than a mechanic who loves his work and demands everything be correct. You both have my respect and admiration. Thank you for the video and thanks for sharing your experiences. (From the USA).
Congrats on bringing a Legend back to life, full credit to you. Having watched rallying for well over 45 years , there is nothing that beats the sound of this beast. Except maybe a Testarossa with a custom exhaust!
This is the first I’ve seen of this channel. Absolutely brilliant quality and great mixing of sound and scenes. Nothing overtaken by gaudy music either. Subscribed!
SO _GORGEOUS_ . I love the Stratos... what a truly beautiful example. Thanks for sharing mate. I had the same experience falling in love with Rally in the 80s/Group B. For me the dream rally car is a Lancia Delta Integralle or a AWD Toyota Celica (ST205 variant) in Castrol paint works.
Well done mate for resorting it and not making it a garage queen. Its the car i dreamed about along side the Delta. I've been to many Lombard RAC rallys and its great you are reconstructing them :-)
Great car. I remember driving back to York from marshalling/spectating in the Yorkshire forests, along the A64 in a stream of cars at night, and wet. We heard the noise for some time before it appeared behind us, coming down between the 2 streams of traffic. When it came past it was minus the rear bodywork, and the service van was almost glued to his tail providing the rear lights. Epic.
Thank you sooooo much for sharing your truly amazing, might I say mental motor with the world and becoming the proper owner /stewardand caretaker of a real legend in motorsport!!!
Utterly marvellous... and what a legend Mr Hanman is; to invest so much time, money and effort in a restoration project and absolutely spank the car at every opportunity. Bravo and thanks!
Fantastic. When I was at school in Bath the RAC rally came in 1976 I think , the Lancia team visited and drove around the school grounds . I can also remember at the end of the rally the Lancia returning battle scared at night spitting flames, I was twelve I remember that moment more than my wedding. Incredible
I love this car! Its Absolutely glorious! I was smiling the whole time. Just looking at this car or seeing it in photos is enough to make your pulse race. Thank you.
I've in love with this car since I have 4 years when my grandma gift me for christmas a Stratos toy car, and from that day I watch racing championships and love everything about cars. Seen this video make me back too many memories, so thanks for share this history, thanks for make an amazing video and thanks to the owner for all the passion in it. Subscribed!
the true italian "madness" and love for cars, before the flatness, of the soul less "modern" fiat management. alfa, lancia, true abarth modifications, those car our dna.
Great Video! Thanks to Patina for sharing the video and to David Hanman for making this legendary car alive again! ...and I see that 26 people have clicked randomly on the screen and hit the "dislike" button!
Can remember sitting in a Stratosphere when I was a little boy. My father had loads of Lancias and Maseratis and was always buying another car. We went up to Chequered Flag in London to pick up a brand new Beta Coupe 2000. Chequered Flag were racing a Stratosphere at the time. It looked amazing! From that moment I was hooked on the Stratos, which is a funny place to find yourself, as you become one of a relatively small group of people who actually know what this car is when they see one. :0)
Great resto to Safari spec, I always loved Safari spec from the MK1 Escorts's in the London to Mexico days, and the engine just sounds fantastic, I'm only a lot jealous 😉
Damn, I have a lot of respect for people who drive the remaining Stratos', even the kits. I fell in love with rally cars when I saw the Stratos.. a true gem from human history. I still have wanted to drive one, just see one in person for a while now. One day I hope to make a replica and drive the hell out of it. It belongs in the wild
Lovely video, love the Stratos. Congrats on the build and I hope to see it one day at an event - P.S the Majorca rally in March is a lovely event to take it to, sometime frequented by 037's so you would be in good company
Superb! The equal (if not better!) than anything from the Petrolicious stable....... and I'm a massive fan of the Petrolicious videos! Brilliant tribute to one of my all time favourite cars!
This is near-Petrolicious level of video quality, plus the car is simply amazing... Congrats Patina!
Guilhem Jager ...yeah, like Petrolicious minus the stupid Turtle Wax commercial appearing in the middle of them.
@King Brilliant ....and now look at the backlash Petrolicious has, first Turtle Wax ads within the video and now trying to get membership for special vids, how the mighty have fallen.
Unfortunately I can only like this video once, I love your car :-)
This man is a proper hero ! Much respect !
Word!
I have a Stratos in my Garage. He was very very expensive. But...You know..there are simple Rallye Cars and there is a Stratos. A Stratos is Not only a Car. IT is a passion
I have been to galleries with less art then whats in your garage...
My favourite rally car! I’m from Kenya, we’d follow the Safari for the full 5 days. The stratos was incredibly loud and we would hear in for a good 5 mins before we saw it. Would love to drive one....and own one!!
OMG Lancia Stratos, you sir are a gentleman and a scholar
I've seen two of these in Sydney, in the glorious 80s.
Hardly surprising. 400 made
You don't quickly forget them.
Especially the NOISE...
😍😍😍
Congratulation and thanks to keep Lancia alive in UK.
Great car.Im 54yr old I saw the car crossing kamatira forest check point kenya in the seventies..that is where my enthusiasm for cars started.
Such an incredible story about a sympathetic and enthusiastic owner...just think of all the nine-and-ten-year-old children whose motoring passions will have been awakened by his mission to use and show the Stratos in the environments which it was designed for!

I have same feelings, indeed i was born in autumn 1971 and it's been actually the first car in my life that made me smile.. unique!!!!
Thanks for sharing Massimiliano!
This has to be the best car channel on RUclips right now. 11/10 production and overall quality.
Oh, don't make us blush!
Im so glad that it is driven instead of garaged like many other rare cars.
One of the most beautiful cars ever made. Thank you for keeping it on the road

I have no words - but plenty of memories seeing that car flying through the trees at the Lombard RAC rally. What a car !!

Magic, just magic!
Very nice presentation, interesting no mention of the Ferrari derived, wonderful sounding engine.

He's still there...Trapped in!
Yeah, I guess so

What a delight to see! Great video and as they would say back in good old Somerset...."Give it some wellie"...Nice one!
Great video, great car. You should have seen and heard sandro munari fly that car down valleys in Kenya! It left your stomach rumbling.
Bellissima Stratos 😎👍

Thanks Orfan, means a lot. We'll try our best to live up to that!
Well, that was really cool. Thanks.
I thought this was a Petrolicious video when I first started watching it, but it was actually outstanding quality.
I LOVE this car in Dirt Rally 1 and it is OK in Dirt Rally 2. So true about the rear end coming around quick, though. Can be very tricky.
Thank you for sharing this iconic piece of history!
Amazing production thank you
A grand and beautiful story.
Thank you so much for sharing this... !!!
Sterke start! Ik kijk uit naar toekomstige videos...
Thanks Peter!
One of the most beautiful cars in history
