Billy famously campaigned a private Stratos (owned by Graham Warner - Chequered Flag) in the UK during the late '70s. The car had been crashed and rebuilt so many times - without any support from Lancia - and still remained competitive, a testament to the strength of that chassis. RIP John.

One of these lived round the corner from me when I was a teenager, at the Chequered Flag Garage on the Chiswick High Road, West London. It was a regular entry in the British Rally Championship. You can't beat one in the iconic Alitalia livery though. One of my all time favorite race cars. The G5 turbo version was an utter brute. Go bid on it Jay, you know you want to.

I've watched years of JLG and I've seen him enjoy rides, I've seen him be diplomatic when a ride isn't up to perhaps what he expected from it but I must say this is one of the few times where it seems the car has not only impressed him but it's genuinely and surprisingly exceeded whatever he had expected from it.
This is a car that deserves to be mentioned in every single Automotive history book, simply AMAZING. This, the Lancia Delta S4, RS200, and Quattro. I could only imagine waking up in the morning, grabbing a hot beverage, and walking into a garage to look at these cars, screw looking at the sunrise. The Stratos though, is the true LEGEND.

This was a 2.4L Ferrari Dino V6 engine w/ 2 valves per cylinder. This engine had very innovative for its era roller rocker followers that actuated/opened the valves.
I can't imagine living anywhere near where Jay drives these. I would absolutely crash whatever car I was driving if I ever saw a Stratos driving down the road.
I've seen some of these cars in various auto shows, they are very impressive. Really tiny but with an absolutely aggressive design. I've never seen one driving down the road, obviously... Must be quite a sight to behold.

Jay, you said Rally drivers used to spend 10 hours a day in them, in the old days they used to Rally for three days straight, Friday through to Sunday, throughout the night with the co-driver driving between rally stages on the road sections whilst the driver tried to sleep. Probably the single most exciting car review I've ever seen on Jay Lenos Garage. The Lancia Stratos is the David of the rally car world.
Stratos is amazing but for me the twin charged delta takes the crown out of the two.
Actually that honor goes to the original Mini Cooper because it won the 63' Monte Carlo rally against other bigger more powerful cars.

@@herbhofmann7441 Wasn’t this John Campion’s own car? His Lancia Rallye car collection was complete and one of the best of not the best in North America. He had a Delta S4 for crying out loud!!! He sold his Ferrari collection for the Rallye collection lol

This is just one of those cars that always sounds (and probably feels) like you're going fast in it, even at 30 mph. Cars like that are just the absolute best when you're driving on public roads.
I love the wheels on the car, they are timeless.
I live in Italy and in 40 years I think i've only seen like 2 of these...one in a museum one in the "wild"

I watched Sandro Munari drive the Stratos at the Rally of the Rideau Lakes in ‘74. It looked like a spaceship rocketing through the forest at night.
As soon as I saw it I thought "Sandro Munari"

Jay, you said Rally drivers used to spend 10 hours a day in them, in the old days they used to Rally for three days straight, Friday through to Sunday, throughout the night with the co-driver driving between rally stages on the road sections whilst the driver tried to sleep. Hey Jay. Just out of hospitial in the UK after having had Co-vid and it's wonderful to see you still making videos despite the conditions. I was fortunate enough to sit in Nick Mason's Lancia Stratos many years ago and remember my head touching the roof. Stay safe and keep doing what you're doing!
Jays a living legend...all the money in the world, and he still does whatever he can to bring new content to the fans. And he genuinely looks happy and excited to drive the Stratos...this car must be every car guys dream to drive.
