    Its kinda rare to convert a Sporty to do what you are intending for this one. I saw one about 40 years ago, thought it was neat and a lot of work. That's what you call, a labor of love. Brother, looks like you got the,worst part done. God bless ya bro.

    Slick engine mount design and fab! Not cutting the frame is very cool since it doesn't interfere with stuffing a big twin into it later if desired. Nice way to recycle an Ironhead that blew out the transmission case and get an interesting custom.

    Playing all your videos (most recent first then earlier so) backwards, I think this bike looks real sweet. There was back in the nineties, a company offering four-cam cases for Evo engines... apparently the valve or pushrod geometry was more direct or something and that meant it was more efficient... anyhow, it'll be nice to see the bike in a future video when you have it finished. Like all your stuff - stay cool.

    I admire your determination and totally understand what you say about staying on it because it would be easy to walk away from. I will subscribe so I can see it running one day. The four speed trans and the bullet proof kick start set up from the big twin will be a big improvement. The best of luck to you!

    Man that's gonna be a cool ride once she's all done...that custom stuff is some of the most irritating but equally as fun stuff to do. Been bangin' away at my own thing recently...has a few more extra wheels though!Cheers man.

    love the videos. I am trying to reinstall a 1977 sportster motor in the frame and the back lines up perfect from is too high wont allign wtth motor mounts ant tips on the 77?

    • @jfrost77hd
      @jfrost77hd  11 месяцев назад

      Hello, thanks for watching. The front should have some engine mount plates that attach it to the frame. The engines are pretty heavy sometimes its easier to lay the engine on its side then lay the frame over it on the ground and bolt it up.

    pretty cool you're gonna keep oil in your primary, instead of doing one of them BDL monstrosities.

    I keep looking at the right side and seeing Panhead gear cover there. Be damn tough as nuts if it could look that way, people would sit and scratch their heads over that.

    • @jfrost77hd
      @jfrost77hd  7 лет назад +1

      Wooley689 Yeah it should confuse some people for sure, I'm putting earlier rocker boxes on it that look more like the Shovelhead ones so should look kinda like a generator Shovel or Pan/Shovel. Really appreciate you watching and I'll get an update posted soon.

    Mr. Frost, I enjoy your videos and as we live not far from each other, I would like very much to meet you. I have a 77 XLH and have some questions that I know you could answer due to your knowledge with the iron heads. I'm not on Facebook but would like to check out your house projects and look at your bikes.How can I get a phone # or a dress so I can bug you for an hour or 2? I live in Piqua not much north of you.

    Hi nice job but a genuine question. What is the point of putting a shovelhead transmission into an Ironhead engine?

    • @jfrost77hd
      @jfrost77hd  9 месяцев назад

      The ironhead engines have the engine and transmission in one case. The transmissions occasionally blow out the rear cases leaving you with a useless engine. After mine did just that I cut the rear transmission portion off and mated it with the shovelhead transmission. It was a lot of work but wanted to try something different. Thanks for watching!

    I have a 74 IRONHEAD BUILT to the hilt
    BANDIT CLUTCH ANDREWS TRANSMISSION
    Tore the chain guide out Blew off the lower case lip right where the small bolt holds the primary
    If I tig in a new piece do you think it will hold up to the vibration?

    • @jfrost77hd
      @jfrost77hd  5 лет назад

      Hey David, if tig welded well and smoothed flush where the primary cover mates with case it should still seal fine. I'd address whatever reason the tensioner slipped go ensure it doesn't happen again. I've seen a few cases repaired because of that. Thanks for watching!

    I have a 77 ironhead sportster. I want to put a big bore stroker in it. Pretty much i want a stock looking streetable drag bike .How much would a complete stroker build cost?

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 6 лет назад +1

      More than it's worth because Sporty engine rebuilds and big twin rebuilds basically cost the same, and Ironheads are not particularly good engines and far inferior to '91-2003 Evo Sporties with the alternator on the crankshaft. You can price the components and tools online if you want to tackle most of it yourself. Labor varies by region and by shop. I did a 4 5/8" stroker (no big bore) with all the goodies including a full Andrews transmission,, 900 timing cover to run a mag etc back when I didn't know any better but I'm not in love with it and ride my big twins far more. If someone gave me a '77 I'd clean it up and sell it then put the cash plus much less than a built Ironhead would cost into any Evo big twin. "Streetable drag bike" Ironheads are fairly unpleasant to ride. Beware of high comp Ironheads on the street because your starter motor may not be able to cope. I run oil coolers on all my iron cylinder HDs because they don't shed heat well. Evos don't have that problem and their top ends last much longer.
      Check the xlforum for all you'll want to know about Sporties then choose based on how you indtend to ride.
      Even if you pour a dump truck full of money into an Ironhead it's still an Ironhead.
