Another recommendation of yours that I don't regret! Definitely a refreshing approach despite some classic unrealistic tropes. I don't know how much of the source material is still left to adapt, but Daddy Korn definitely hasn't spilled the actual tea yet...
Speaking of refreshing - now I'm waiting for Aam Anusorn's "Til the Worls Ends", 'cause I love me some apocalyptic vibes, and to have a BL show in such a setting? Phew.

Kei x Yaku a very well done Japanese series from earlier this year. If has LGBTQ elements, but more of a bromance, sexuality is kinda a side note. Very well written realistic crime drama.
Of course the classic 2017 Korean drama Long Time No See is great to see or watch again. Who can forget Flying Dagger and Wild Dog.

Psycho Vegas is torturing Pete, I thought there will be a romance between them, but there is only pain. The way Vegas was pursuing Porsche and made Kinn jealous was also refresing. And Kim and Chay, I will be honest with you, my side couple syndrome enjoyes it😍. Let me start this comment by admitting that I am deep in KinnPorsche La Forte obsession (it’s not just a perfume anymore). It is the first time that I have watched multiple episodes repeatedly while waiting for the next weekly episode. Every time I rewatch an episode, I find more that fascinates me. **end disclaimer**
Respectfully, I disagree with BL Critic about the first episode. I was hooked by this first episode. It was the first glance into an interesting and very flawed crime family. No family is perfect and this one is no exception. Dysfunctional communication at its finest. Porsche was in his element behind the bar and in the alley. Bible as Vegas caught my attention since the first episode and has truly become my favorite villain. His acting for a rookie is remarkable.
Now, I am in total agreement with the critique on the action sequences. They are good for a Thai Bl and much better than Bad Buddy’s scenes but not all the scenes rise to the level of my expectations. The action scenes in the Filmania version were superior. Kinn and Tankhun have great friends or acquaintances that masquerade as bodyguards. The number of fails in the bodyguard ranks is truly ridiculous. How does the major family’s second son (acting boss) get out of the complex without his bodyguards not once but multiple times? All, yes ALL, of them were drunk out of their minds at Yok’s bar. I guess Yok in all her glory was going to protect Kinn and Tankhun. Chan (Peter Knight) is the only bodyguard who does his job proficiently as Papa Korn’s head bodyguard. Kinn is a newbie crime lord and it shows. He is not proficient at his job yet but he is learning. I think Kim has the right temperament for the role and Kinn should be the singer.
The color themes for critical scenes are so layered with multiple meanings that I spend a lot of time thinking about them during the week. I also theorize with fellow enthusiasts on multiple platforms about the moods evoked from the use of color in the episodes. Color becomes important around Vegas especially the color red. His clothes reflect his contradictions perfectly from predatory and dangerous to just a nice guy who rides a Ducati (deception).
Episodes 8 and 9 have been described as filler episodes by many critics. Again, I respectfully disagree. Episode 8 was needed to show how Kinn and Porsche’s relationship could be outside of the forest back in their real world. Many dramas will give us the lovey dovey honeymoon period to make the angst that much more painful. Episode 8 did just that because episode 9 hurt. It showed that Porsche and Kinn still have a long way to go in the trust and communication departments. Episode 10 had way too much going on and some moments needed more time to be fully developed. Also, please explain how Tawan has a vest but not Big. Make that make sense.
KinnPorsche La Forte has moved the BL or the gay drama genre forward in similar fashion as Not Me. The production value alone is impressive. I think what truly sets it apart beyond the adult subject matter is the cinematography and art direction. Is it a masterpiece? It is close but it missed the mark in a few key areas i.e. action scenes, aspects of maf!a family life, plot holes etc. It might have just become the new standard to which subsequent BL/gay dramas will measured and compared.
Side note: Porsche did not become a crime family bodyguard for the money. He was harassed into it and finally agreed because of not so veiled threats to his brother’s safety.

wow... such a nice analysis... i categorically agree to almost all of it.. and yes The action scenes in the Filmania version were superior.. but kudos to the cameraman and the art directors... and the lighting esp with Vegas.. now we are having the green lights.. and in the forest sequence the golden light.. i think other series can also use that. Well we still have half a year left, but I think this will be in my top 5 for 2022 .

@@blcritic KP will be in my top five as well.

  • @samtab2364
    @samtab2364 2 года назад +5

I remember the original teaser and thinking wow this is going to be the one that changes everthing. Maybe if it had been made and released when it was originally promised maybe it would have. We will never know. I think the drama surounding the making of KP could be a movie in its self. A Bollywood actor and his Thai girlfriend, was it a scam or the case of people not knowing what they are doing? The project being saved by a rich Thai wanabe actor, one of the main leads wanting to leave the entertainment world in the middle of a ill conceived world tour.
As far as the question of a masterpiece, no it is not. As far as breaking new ground, I think the series Manner of Death beat them to the punch. Did it live up to the original hype? Maybe, but certianly not like 1000 Stars which we waited forever for as well. I think KP is really a question of does the good out weigh the bad. It has had some really good scenes, I think the acting has been good and the casting spot on, the chemistry is there for sure. The skinship I think is some of the best we have seen, the cinematography is great. But for me most of all the action scenes suck, even when they try to make a joke of it, not funny. I think the thing that we were all craving, a different storyline, a more mature storyline is what has been its biggest flaw. I think it is always a danger to make a series from a popular book, because what is in our head does not always translate to the screen. The whole mafia storyline is the bad joke that is really not funny and makes it all seem like a bad B movie. This becomes even more evident when you have the characters outside the mafia story line, Kinn and Porsche in the forest, the Kim and Chay storyline in general. I fear the more mature storyline of Pete Vegas will be a flop, the little we have seen was just cringy to say the least. I maybe wrong but I think we have seen the best of KP and it is down hill from here.
Just in response to another comment regarding Triage. I think the TaeTee ship is great and yes they are killing it. But sadly I think the reason it has not been more popular and the reason I do not like it that much is the storyline. I think the time loop concept is not easy to make work properly and here I find it just boring, it seems like a gimmick. If they had just stuck with the basic storylines and developed them normally, it would have been a better series.

I enjoyed Manner of Death and 1000 Stars. It was refreshing to see more adult story lines. I don't need to write a lot because Sam pretty much said what I was thinking. I am enjoying KP mostly because of the actors and the cinematography. What I will add is this... UGH!! Can we get someone on set who knows anything about weapons and tactics? There is so much mishandling of guns and their tactical moves are just dumb. Like how many times could they have shot each other by now?? Also, I was looking forward to more serious and less comedy so like Zahra B said, jokers in black... disappointed there.

Well, I don't know if it's the best series for 2022, but since "Not me" it's the one I look forward to every Saturday. I'm excited, impressed or deeply disappointed. It's not a series that's just nice to watch in between and then hardly remember after a few weeks. Because it enters completely new territory for Thai BL series, because the actors are grown up and really very very good looking, because the erotic scenes are breathtaking, that's why KP is something I will remember for a long time. Similar to "Semantic Error", I watch it with a friend who lives far away, we always swap stories after each episode. Because it's worth it. the series is not arbitrary. You have something to discuss. KP is breaking new ground in Thailand and, as with "Not me", there are inconsistencies, breaks, weaknesses and lengths. There are parts where I wonder if there is a specialist and a looser among the cameramen, if some scenes were cut by a professional and others by an intern and if the director is sometimes a genius and then has his migraine days. But when you do something new, that's normal. It's the first Thai series whose OST I'm listening to. And Vegas as the villain - stunning. There are scenes in every episode that I watched multiple times because they were so erotic, so heartbreaking or so beautiful. there are iconic images, like the "golden waterfall", Porsche's underwater meditation, the love scene in the bathroom at Vegas.... There are people working there who, much like set designers in the theatre, have something in mind when they prepare the lighting, the camera angles or the setting. One of the series that I have also thought about the most.

I was looking for your comment as soon as the video ended. I love our KP discussions after You Tube videos. Admittedly, I am KP obsessed. However, I will not go so far as to say that it is the best BL of 2022. We have 6 months left of the year and a lot of BL's still to come. I am not sure I would classify it as a BL more like a gay drama but that is just me. Anyway, I agree with your statement that this is one drama that I will remember for a long time and will rewatch in the future. It is groundbreaking for sure in terms of its 21+ rating, subject matter, and dark themes. Bible's acting is brilliant and he has gained a new fan in me.
I had high expectations for this drama and overall I am not disappointed. I agree with BL Critic in terms of some of the action sequences. The Filmania trailer showed much better fight scene choreography in my opinion. I was surprised by the use of humor in the series and it was very much welcomed. The art direction and color themes for certain scenes has me in a complete choke hold. My desktop background it the long view of Kinn and Porsche under the gold waterfall from across the pool.
One of the Directors has hinted at a season 2. I believe they can wrap this series up well as long as they do not plan to tackle more drama that has not started yet. If they wrap up what they have going now then it should not feel rushed. If they get into Porsche's family stuff then it might get tricky.

You mentioned in your initial comment that you have watched certain scenes in every episode because of their specialness. One of those scenes for me is the ending scene of episode seven. One of the reason is the colors used in the scene that evoke such strong emotins namely the green and the gold. The other reason is Kinn's facial expressions. I will sometimes watch only Mile's face during the scene. He communicates such a range and depth of emotion that quite honestly stuns me. From sadness/pain to joy/pleasure but mostly love. Well KinnPorsche is better in terms of popularity
But TRIAGE is definitely the king of BLs in 2022 when it comes to quality.
Triage is lacking the hot 18+ scenes but the story , plot, acting, scenario deliver ❤️ and the ship of #TaeTee
are both killing their roles in this.
Up to episode 8 though there is literally 0 BL content, as TRIAGE has both Tin and Tol start off as straight men (both of them have girlfriends) and low-key enemies, that is why no one was seeing the series being promoted in the BL media until two days ago that ep9 aired and oh my God they progressed both couples so much ❤️❤️. I think everyone has uploaded their sweet 😍 lovemaking scene by now
But the series is not about the couples. It's about everything that's going on . The plot is unique and the supernatural, mystery, fantasy, BL and medical elements complement each other so harmonically in this
For Me clearly the best and the most Underrated series of 2022
I also believe You Are My Sky is super underrated given how realistically it managed to portray all the real struggles professional athletes actually face and touched me quite a lot as someone who has been through all of this stuff in my basketball years . Well, if not the best, at least one of the best ones in my opinion. I agree with your grading, but I do think that there has been gradual character development in Porsche as he has become more serious, loosing little bit of his cheekiness that he had in the beginning. But still, some of his mannerisms are so funny, especially when he's frustrated and he flails with his hands, it feels like he goes little bit out of character and more into his own mannerisms in those moments, but still they seems so natural, totally what I do myself in those kind of moments. But I do agree with you in one point - too many side characters that have no impact on the story, sometime even hindering or dragging it at moments. By definition, a masterpiece is a work of outstanding artistry, skill or workmanship. So with that in mind, yes this has all the makings of a masterpiece! 👌🏿 It has laid the groundwork for other BLs to come that masculine men can be portrayed as emotional. The diversity of this cast, the screenwriting, cinematography, actors, the chemistry: all of it has exceeded everyone's expectations from its initial trailer almost 2 years ago. Does it have its filler moments? Absolutely and rightly so. These actors, new and veterans, are being pushed beyond their capabilities to deliver an incredibly polished series. I'm hoping that the last 4 episodes won't be wrapped up in a nice bow since the manga has 3 books. The VegasPete storyline alone is complicated and needs time to develop. You're not completely wrong about Porsche not being able to make ends meet. It wasn't why he decided to take the job. It was his knucklehead uncle's gambling debt that affected his decision. I don't believe, unless someone could inform me, Porsche could make THAT kind of money in the timeframe given to repay the debt. All in all, I give it a solid 9 and am looking forward to seeing how the last 4 episodes wrap up. ♥As always, I appreciate your honesty and candor. Hugs from Orlando, FL. ☀ 🌴 🏖

For the most part, the pacing has been tight, though I do agree that this last episode seemed to have everything and the kitchen sink tossed in for funsies. I also agree about the friends. What purpose to Tay/Tine serve? Are they the gateway to season 2? They warranted their own photoshoot, but I haven't seen much of them to form a proper opinion. Cute boys, sure, but aren't they all?

I have to disagree on some points. Porsche's character development was there just subtle. It started from ep. 3 when he decided to be serious about being a bodyguard. You can see each step from his initial reaction from killing the debtor(?) to protect Kinn to taking on the Italians. What he would and could do kept moving further from who he'd been.
As to the bike and the reason he had to work for the mafia was all about time. He need a lot of money fast. So no time to sell the bike and it's very hard to justify selling reliable transportation if you need it.
My biggest problem is really the age difference between Jeff and Barcode. It reads true and makes me cringe. I felt the same with MaxNat in WhyRU. I have to admit I have no clue where the KimChay storyline is going. It is wildly different then the book. Chay is clued in on what's basically going on from when Porsche gets kidnapped and staying at the mafia house for safety. Kim is also supposed to be around the same age as Chay.
But I think it is a step into genre for BL and the more genres to draw stories from the better.

After watching the latest Unforgotten Night teaser, I have to say if it lives up to the hype it could make me forget about KinnPorsche. In KP what we are seeing with Vegas and Pete is Sadistic and cruel, a person taking out their inner pain on another person and that person only knowing love as pain. If I understand it correctly what we will see in UN is their take on sexual bondage, pain to enhance pleasure.
    Some notes
We finally got Love Mechanics 2022 (thank god with subs). So now we get to see what it is like when a new producer, director, writer redo a bad series with the same couple. What an interesting experiment. The first two episodes kinda a redo of what we saw before, but better ?? I think. I like Yin War, Yin is really good love him, I do not like the character of Mark (the thing I really did not like in the first series) have to say I think War's acting needs some work. The girl playing Ploy is a much better choice. I am Interested to see more, hope it improves.
Almost finished with with Plus Minus, a very formula bl, it is ok, I think if we saw it two years ago we would have loved it more. The second couple is so unexpected and different, have to give them credit for that.
Spring of Crush, so hard to find the episodes and really not worth it so far. Kinda anti gay hope they redeem things at the end.
Keep liking Papa What is Love.
Sky in Your Heart just another GMMtv formula bl, so bored with it.
To My Star 2 is good, but watching it makes me feel so not happy, this is not fluff, it is the hard stuff about relationships. I guess I relate to much.
Finally we have Senpai This Can't Be Love, I guess another secret crush storyline. Have to say the Japanese have stepped it up and put some stuff out there this season. The first epidode of Senpai, is ok. I liked the flash back thing they did. This is what really stood out to me was how western the actors looked. The age of plastic surgery. The one actor Naito who plays Yanase, has kinda funny front teeth and when he smile, so fricking cute, the other actor Seto who plays Kaneda looks very western, light hair, western eyes and nose, maybe hot in Japan but not that cute for me (maybe better with the shirt off), kinda takes the edge off for me. Hate to be superficial but it is bl.

hehe.. I am yet to catch up with the new teaser of UN.. I will tonight. About other series I am yet to catch up.. But ya Papa, What is love is interesting...
You know my love for Japanese BLs and both Senpai... and Old Fashion cupcake... I will make a video next. I agree Kandea looks western, Old Fashion Cupcake reminds me of Cherry Magic.. the office setting and age difference, still it feels fresh.

@@blcritic Watched Unforgotten Night, nothing I can say good about it, stupid story, bad acting, the bitch girl, Sammy(come on girl stop with the lip filler), and Yoon looks like he is there just to collect a pay check. Maybe it will get better, I do not have much hope.

Unforgotten Night is plain outright bad. I had to skip so much and the scene was poorly done. Both the actors looked uncomfortable , and I think Yoon has quite a lot of experience in acting now, he should improve. I do not have any hopes for further episodes and it might end up in my year end list of worst ones.

It's too violent for me, i was taken aback with the casual shooting in a business environment in episode 1. I'm also too squeamish for the upcoming vegas/pete stuff, I will probably fast skip over that. That said, the comical scenes got me laughing more than I've done in a long time watching series, BL or not, the humor is just up my alley. I really like the mix of characters too, cute, dangerous, sexy, funny, crazy - whatever you fancy you'll find a favorite. There's a bit of mismatch in the episodes regarding phasing and content but i don't mind too much, it's very intense in some so a bit of airy lighter episodes with more scenery than content isn't too bad. Somehow Kinn reminds me of Jack Sparrow in Pirates, they both seem to have a light version of tourettes in the way they move in their action scenes, the way Kinn moves to distract the attackers before jumping off the dock must be stolen from Pirates or what do you think?

haha.... Pirates... amy be.. but that scene form the 1st episode where Apo jumps off the boat was funny and looks inspired.

I am a bit behind on KP due to catching up on work after vacation and watching the reporting about a massive crime that happened on 1/6/21. Overall I am loving the series and would give it a 9. I love the chemistry between the leads and Bible is giving an amazing performance. The team is giving some amazing cinematography and we are really immersed into this world. The series is a bit lighter in tone and more comedic than I expected. Porsche really has been a bad bodyguard (up to about ep 7) and really should be fired. I too am curious how they will handle the Pete and Vegas story line. I have the feeling it will not go well - but home I am wrong. And I am curious as to why Korn decided to bring in Porsche into the family - what connection exists that we don’t know about. One thing that this series will bring is a a slate of mafia themed BL series. At least we will have less students from the engineering faculty going forward. ;-)

I think Kinn Porsche has opened Pandora's Box in terms of skinship. I think we will see a lot of a** flashing in future.

@@blcritic agreed! Also a plethora of mafia themed shows and charters who say they are into BDSM but are really just jerks into abuse.
