Cabinet: RAF settles claims in less than six months

- Cabinet says the Road Accident Fund has made progress in dealing with
the settlement of claims.
It says RAF now settles claims within six months, which in turn
reduces legal costs by 75%.
RAF CEO Collins Letsoalo says the institution has done well in the
past four years.

I have a claim that date to 10 March 2001. It was partially settled in 2017 (merits and General Damages). The Loss of Earnings remain outstanding. The Experts reports were done completely in 2021. The Acturial Report stating how much the RAF should settle the amount of Loss of Earnings was done in December 2022. It is now April 2024. The RAF is unable to settle the claim because it cant allocate a Claims Handler. I have been sent from pillar to post. I have even travelled from KZN to Pretoria at the head offices of the RAF all in vain. The matter is now in abeyance. The RAF is a broken, obtuse Government agency with very poor administration.
Medical aids pay benefits in accordance with the medical aid plan chosen by the member. This benefit is linked to monthlhy contributions from the member. Why then, do medical aids claim from RAF as they already have their share from the member's contribution? This amounts to double dipping by the medical aid.
It's not true.... It's very shocking that the CEO can come on national TV a blatantly lie like this.. Claims are not being paid, cost are not being paid... And there is no such thing as settling claim within six month...

They are rejecting all direct claims with all documents. He’s misleading the public
He is saying currently they are because lawyers colluded before and put that law in place in RAF so that claims can be done through lawyers. His predecesors failed him so he is changing that and wants to remove that law and people can make direct claims.

This is proper, in the first place lawyers should be focusing on other cases matching their legal careers. Unlike police who dress in bullet proof vest to sign the affidavits the whole day.
But it’s actually opposite to the truth… there are people who have direct claims from as far as 2015 and they’re still on a waiting list.
