I took delivery of my new Explorer today. It’s stunning. I placed an order 3 months ago and got the call yesterday. Mind you, I did ask how many phone calls did they make before they got to me?! The sales person did say that they have been making a few calls to people recently who have ordered Rolexes and a lot have been saying they now can’t afford their watch due to the pandemic! I do feel sorry for them. So thinking about it it must be the same for the Sub. I immediately placed an order for a sub for my son. He did get a First and a Masters in Engineering this year. So will appreciate the quality and precision of these watches.
Its not just the diameter across. The lug to lug and solid end link to solid end link is quite long. Like the op 39mm, it wears larger, esp as its all dial and no thick bezel. 38mm would be perfect
It’s interesting to note that this is now the only 39mm Rolex currently available. It’s price is rising rapidly on the used market. Only 1 available from 2017 or 2018 and that’s private. £6250. It will be 7500 by christmas
Great video. Lucky for those who got the 214270 model. Great watch. Seems it is above retail price at the secondary mkt. The only Sports model at 39 mm. Maybe phase out just like the OP 39? Hope not.
The one to buy is the 114270 from 08/09 with rehault. Risen 30% in the last 3 years and now costs more than the current model. As you can't get on a waiting list for one I'm guessing that it will be another 20% in the next 2 years. The 39 is too large for anyone under 7 inches wrists. It physically measures 39.8mm and the face diameter is the same as the current explorer 2 which is 42. The older 36 version is actually 35mm but they both wear larger. The older clasp and bracelet are not so good but after a short time you start experimenting with other straps because it goes so well on anything
@Bryan Davis Thanks for your reply. Comes down to personal taste and it does feel lighter especially when compared to the 39. I've come to appreciate its comfort though and because my wrist doesn't swell up like it did with the 39 l don't need the extra 5mm extension. Saying that, they are both strap monsters and mine spends most of the time on a nato.
Owned it, Its a nice watch but I think its too big. The 36mm is the better choice for me. I would like to see the modern incarnation at say 38mm. This watch wears big, not like a 39mm at all
My birthday isn’t until next August. I contacted four different AD’s this week. I’m hoping to get one before then. One of them told me it’s a 1 - 1 1/2 year wait
Just enjoyed your vid over a coffee. Thanks YKToday. Totally agree with your comments, although more discrete than the other sports models the Explorer still gets noticed on wrist. Even by people not familiar with it. There’s also more demand for it now. Will be interesting to see how things are in 12 months especially if Rolex release a larger model. Hopefully it won’t grow in size. For me the last of the 39mm Rolex models is perfect....
In my opinion, the sizing of the watch should should fit you like a tailored made clothing. The lugs should not be touching the edges of your wrist, actually they should be far away from the edges to provide visual aesthetics and comfort. That's why me having a 6.75 inch wrist I could only go for 36-38mm watches with a lug2lug span of 47mm as most.
Well, this is my wrist size too and I think 37 mm is a bit small though wearable, 38 mm is fine and 39 mm is perfect. 40 mm is still wearable but at the edge of being too big and therefore ostentacious - if you are not only into watches but into style as well.
Excelent watch, i had it and sold it, goin to get new 36mm version, it was perfect exceot dial, on36 mm version dial is more in place and beter readability and hour hand looks beter, on 39 hour hand is just too short and was anoying me. Only i got big wrist and will need to get 2-3 extra links.
Now that OP has moved to 42 and upgraded the bracelet, these have fallen into a deeper cult classic status, and prices are shooting up in this next wave.
its a beautiful piece and i am a big fan of the explorer ..:) but sir anyone selling this piece knows that one will have to take a 20 -25 percent hit when selling it . i have seen brand new piece selling below retail as well
Hi, I have mentioned it in my video because looking at the current market for the UK they are selling over list price. And also there are 4 to 5 year old ones selling for list. I guess that is the current demand on the professional range of sports models

Congratulations on your new Explorer, and your son's result. The Rolexine up is really special
A classic timeless watch. I have placed an order for one of these for my collection, hoping to receive in next couple of months. Beautiful watch.
I just love the the understated power of it. Good luck with it. You will enjoy it
Much more stunning in person.

Just got mine 1 week ago and its perfect
Brilliant, did you wait long?
YKToday the wait was 4 months! When i got the call, i went to the AD immediately
Great feeling when you get the call
Lucky. I've been waiting for over 3 months now
@@joeschlicht its worth the wait

You make a very good point there with the 39mm size. This is going to go just like you said
Looks like Explorer 1 becoming a Rocket 🚀 at the rate of appreciation.

My daily wearer. Perfect watch. my wrist is 7.25 and it looks great.
Understated

I prefer the 39.
@@MarkMphonoman thanks for your detailed comment and reasons why

Very nice video. I'm waiting patiently for one of these.
Thank you. They are in such demand right now.
my favorite rolex
Understated and still recognisable as a Rolex
This one and the Sub.
I picked mine up a week ago today but I can’t wear it till my birthday next month.
Hey, at least you have it in your possession
My birthday isn’t until next August. I contacted four different AD’s this week. I’m hoping to get one before then. One of them told me it’s a 1 - 1 1/2 year wait
Yes thats about right. Where do you live?
YKToday, Texas
Is it worth registering interest with other AD's a little further away than your local ones?

I agree. I have been watching the prices and they are getting mad
Great review, I have the explorer 2 and I initially thought of getting this.
Thank you. Do you think it will be revamped?
YKToday Probably, who knows what Rolex is up to
It looks great! Just like mine! I also have a 6.5 inch wrist and the size feels great. The 36mm was not for me.
I agree about the 36, it looked too small
It WAS for you, Mr girly wrists !
😉
not sure if this is down to eyes capacity or anything else to compensate...6.5 inch wrist how can be to big a for a 36mm watch?
Hi, the wrist is not necessarily too big it is more that the 39 looked better
Stunning !
Magnifique 😎

@Flyknit Jeza Looking at listings right now, I find that to not be true. Even the Mk1 is up and rising in price.
Where i am it’s available at list price quite easily . and At times even 500 usd cheaper at times
Putting a Rubber-B band on mine. Red.
I’ve got the mark one that I’ve reviewed on my channel. Check it out! Great video covering a fantastic watch.
Too much flashy, I like mark 1
Na Mark 1 is dog shit. Every owner of the Mark 1 knows it but dont say it. They are frustrated that they Did not wait on the Mark 2.
