Love my Explorer 214270! Knowing it's on my wrist makes me very happy. It's simple, elegant and classy.. Non pretentious, nothing to prove confidence. If it had to be only one watch it would be the Explorer hands down

I was debating between the Explorer versus the Oyster Perpetual (39mm, black) for a few mos. They're both pretty similar. I ultimately went with the OP, but still like the Explorer. I'm very happy with the OP.

I had a grand Seiko (sbga085) which is similar in style and I actually got bored of how perfect it was! It made my other watches redundant (as it was water resistant, smart, casual, accurate and a strap monster) and so I sold it and went back to a speedy, sinn104 ABE and a Christopher ward c60mk3(40mm).... now I’m thinking I need to get rid of all them and get an explorer haha “it’s an illness not a hobby”

The Explorer is one of the most unassuming Rolex watches ever. I had a 36 mm till it was stolen.. When I purchased it it was a very modest price back in 1981. The Explorer is a watch that when you see it on someone you know they're not going to play watch snob if you strick up a conversation about their watch. They own the watch for the pure simplicity and function of the watch its durability and heritage. Too bad they stop making the 36 mm. great review thanks

  • @andreaiacolina

This is probably the best Rolex ever, because of its versatility. It could really be the best option for a one watch collection, even though it's not the only one. There are other less expensive options like the Tudor Black Bay 36 for example.
The more I look at your BB58, the more I love that watch... It would be another very good option for a one watch collection!

    • @24hourstime

After much experience with both Submariners, or Stopwatches, the only true watch is the Explorer. How many dive to 300m, or use the stopwatch functions? The Explorer's simple, easy to see, can be worn with suit or on surfboard. In need of 2nd timezone, the Explorer II. Both elegant, sporty, ready to go anywhere, anytime.

Hi Oleg. Thank you for this great video. Let's go in order. Rolex Explorer is an everyday watch. Simple, reliable, understated. It goes with everything: a dress or jeans. It is always good. Yes understated. If someone wants a flashy or show- off Rolex watch go for a GMT. This watch is an undercover luxury watch, I call this watch "undercover gentleman". It's a Rolex you buy because you enjoy Rolex, and not because you want everybody to know you have a Rolex. Yes no date and its balanced design is astonishing. Rolex Explorer is an eternal classic. Style, class and elegance all wrapped up in a simple well built 904L case/bracelet. As to glidelock personally I don't agree. This is an everyday sport watch not a professional tools. The glidelock is like to put alloy rims on a Rolls Royce. For the rest we see eye to eye. The Gentleman is gonna last forever on your wrist and in our memory of watch enthusiast and..... if you want to enjoy this elegant simplicity save some money and buy finally a decent watch.

I can imagine that this watch could be my one and only watch, BUT atm my one watch collection would be my Yachtmaster 40mm in blue. Although I would miss my Batman or my DJ, also my Moony etc....so, not easy to find a one watch collection for me. Nearly impossible.

Hey Oleg, Many thanks for your thorough review of the Rolex Explorer. I have a Cartier Roadster, Tudor Black Bay (Blue), Omega Seamaster AquaTerra with a Master Coaxial movement. Have a Ralph Lauren Stirrup & just sold my Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT Good Planet Edition. It was just too big at 45mm.
Anyway, I’m glad you spent most of your review on how you wear the watch, it’s aesthetics, & your feelings about it. I’m preparing to buy my first Rolex and the Explorer and the Datejust41 (Stainless Steel with the serrated 14k Bezel) are the two I’m considering.
I’m leaning toward the Datejust41 because of the 3235 movement. With a 70 hour power reserve, it’s a helluva timepiece. However, the cyclops date magnifier will draw attention to my wrist, which I’d rather not have. The Explorer is so understated in it’s presentation. Only those that know & appreciate watches will “get it”.
And I’m with you - totally knocked out with the GMT Master II Pepsi with Jubilee. Stunning. I’ve seen it in person.
What one watch would I keep? My Omega Aqua Terra. The Tudor would be a close second, and it’s half the price. My appreciation & love of my Tudor hasn’t diminished at all.
Thanks for including Bond in your videos. Is he a French Bulldog? Comedians John Mulaney & Ron White bring their frenchies on stage with them at the end of their shows!

The guys who say the Explorer is the most boring watch. Are the guys who NEED to show off and try to prove they have a big schlong by wearing a Submariner. The men who wear an Explorer don’t need to prove anything to anyone. You can also include a Speedmaster for men that know themselves and are confident without the need to show off.

I've gotta say the 39mm looks perfect on your wrist. The 36mm would look too small. The only other watch I can think of that could fill the Explores spot as the perfect all around watch is the Omega Aqua Terra, but not all models.

I have the same Explorer and I also have a Rolex Sub. If you put them side by side the Explorer looks bigger than the Sub. If you look at the specs the Sub is 40mm while the Explorer is 39mm bezel to bezel. But the dial face on the Explorer is about 2mm larger. The look of the Explorer is understated but has a certain presence on the wrist. I also think you can wear the Explorer for any occasion.

Oleg, I have one of these bought it a few weeks ago and am now in a position to give my thoughts. It is a beautifully made watch and as you say very comfortable. The real, beauty of it is the bracelet which is engineered to perfection and the clasp is stunning and wonderful to open and close. There are a couple of things that are a let down on this watch though. The hands, though bigger than the previous model, are still too small. They should use the hands from the Submariner. Secondly the depth of the watch could go up to say 13mm to add some heft to it. Lastly the lume is rubbish. You say it's great but really it's not. Looks great in its blue for a few minutes only but is absolutely no good in the middle of the night. However, I love my watch and think as someone said this Explorer is for the man who has nothing to prove.

Great video. If I had to choose one watch as my only watch, it would be my Helson SharkDiver 40 with raised markers and sapphire crystal. The latter two details really transform the watch from a chunky tool watch to a tool watch that can also be used as an every day watch. Plus the 40mm isn't too big nor too small. Sort of an homage Submariner, but design also stands alone. Really enjoy it.

Your love of the Explorer is justified as is my love for my GMT Master 2 LN which coincidentally is the watch that would stay in my collection if I could only have one. E VH Thing is this is the watch I want to wear for my wedding and will never sell. This sounds perfect for the Explorer and I was obsessed with the perfect proportions of this watch. I loved that simple no nonsense tool aspect of it and really identified with the Explorer story. But the more I looked into it the less appealing it is. Rolex shenanigans make it clear that this is no longer a tool for the working man to aspire too and l have a real problem with that. The price point is also absurd, you can get Geneva stripes, full in house watches for that price. I just think it’s heavily overpriced and wonder how it fairs compared to that Tudor. Probably better movement, tougher and pretty as hell for half the price.

Great video Oleg, but I'm on the side of "Boring Watch." I can't see spending $6+K on a basic 3-hander with no other complications...not even a date complication. Much rather prefer an Explorer II.

Thanks for Share your opinion and experience, have a question , how about the damage to use day by day? 🤔I love the submariner, then I saw this explorer and I found it very interesting, but I have the doubt if it is damaged a lot with daily use, I see that the glass protrudes or is like it is very exposed, and the truth is that I am a little careless and I do not know if it would hurt with my use, my idea is to use it without worries at work and daily, just take it off to train. how is your experience. greetings and you have a very good collection.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

My take of the Explorers are that they are the best, not boring!! So versitale and Good looking!! Yours, Explorer I, can be match with casual clothing as well to dressier style! That’s my take on the Explorer2, which I own, as well. I did wear it last night to my tuxedo, the polarwhite dial matched the white fly and the shirt with gold buttons. You said it well in this video, my opinion is that all Explorers are the best one-piece-collection!! I would never flip my Explorer2, because it’s my ever first luxury watch and it’s so versitale! I love every minute I spend with my Explorer2!!😍👍🏻Great review Oleg!👌🏻😉

I wish everyone could experience the same!! 😃😍 We both Will be stuck with our Explorers this life time, fully enjoying them! I have not a big watch collection yet but it would be difficult for me becouse I have a old seamaster from 1958 that I get after a family member of me was dying and than I have a Tudor Black Bay Steel.
I don't wear the omega very often but it's a special watch for me.
I would hold on the omega but I would cry

Hi Oleg. Great vid, as usual. I have the same watch and I agree with everything you say about it. Mine is a year and a half old and has had a few scratches on it, but I have managed to remove them all with some Cape Cod. Keep up the good work. I'll check out your NATO straps, can never have enough of those.

Great video on the Explorer. I like watching videos about a watch that I just got in Vancouver a few months ago ;) This watch is simple, elegant, strong, and beautiful. It's a bit of a chameleon in that its beauty and feel is often aligned to the environment, because it is so reflective of what's around it. A bit of a disco ball, I guess. I love the size, the feel, the strap, the weight. It's just a great watch. From one owner to another - cheers! ps - i love the gmt2 pepsi as well

@@24hourstime No kidding! I got mine at GWC... I went in and asked about an explorer and they had a card to fill out to get on a list. They called me a week later! I couldn't believe it. A couple weeks ago I went back there to hopefully fill out a card and get on a list for a GMT, but they said they don't take wait lists. It's first come, first serve, they say. So I'd have to go there every day and see if one is in the display... not likely. But yeah.... it's tough to get a watch here. And then you have places like Bob's Watches in California with a lot of great used watches. Wish we had a bob's in canada. End of rant! lol What's your next watch?

Enjoy your watch. I know lots of people love this piece . But it does nothing for me . I find the dial kind of a Mish mash . What with batons triangle and numerals . But if you own one and love it , good luck to you and wear it with pride .
