    Over here in the US the interstate highways are constructed with the Eisenhower Interstate System. In times of war sections of every highway are purposely straight for emergency airstrips.

      I understand that for every five miles of interstate, there has to be a mile of absolutely straight flat interstate. The Eisenhower Plan. Civilian planes have had to use the interstate as a landing strip in times of emergency. Ike got the idea from the German Autobahn during WWII.

      It's been done. One of the best things about the Panavia Jaguar fighter bomber was the ability to operate from roads, and there are videos on YT of it doing just that. The F-18 here should be capable of the same thing but it appears they were not setup on the ground for landing. Which begs the question of how the plane got to the takeoff point. But anyway, was all done because NATO assumed Russia would bomb all the airbases the moment a war started. And they would. So the roads were supposed to be an alternative. The problem is, the Russians just added all the suitable roads to the target list. Now what?

    Expect great things from the Finns. They took a plane that was rejected by us (Americans) and many others as underperforming, and used one of them to set the record for the most planes ( 40 some odd) shot down by one plane, the Brewster Buffalo.

    • @JS-ob4oh
      @JS-ob4oh 2 года назад +1

      Actually the Brewster Buffalo was a better airplane than what the "experts" who criticized it claim. It was good enough that even the Japanese during WW2 re-used the ones they captured. What many people do not consider is HOW a weapon is used and only obsess over the specs. For example, the Japanese A6M Zero was superior in flight characteristics to all US fighters from 1941 to 1943, but the US fighter pilots were still able to shoot down Zeros. it is the tactics with which the weapon system is used that makes or breaks it.
