I turn my morning coffee into a filling breakfast - I dilute a tsp of instant coffee (vanilla, maple syrup or chocolate Little's are my favorites) into hot water, add either milk (1% fat) or oat milk, sweeten with hazelnut flavoring , caramel syrup, sugarfree vanilla suryp or cocoa drink powder, and finish with 100-150 ml of unflavored or vanilla flavor whey protein. I blend it up and drink it on the way to work. I rarely eat before 9 in the morning so this super tasty coffee keeps me going without getting hangry. I never feel guilty over it and with my ED background that is saying alot.

Yes!!! I don’t like mukbangs. From my perspective, if I’m trying to recover for my health, why on earth would I want to swing the opposite way and still be unhealthy, and majorly trigger myself? If I’m bothering with recovery, I want to be healthy. And I certainly don’t want to see someone doing what I fear most and binging on the foods that I don’t allow myself for fear of doing the same. This video is so helpful.

Honestly, as someone who struggles with foods and food portions, seeing you ADD food to these "trigger" foods to make them healthy really hit home. If you eat just the whole tub of ice cream, you wont be satisfied but still want more. If you add just some things to a few scoops it changes the game. I really appreciate you and your channel Abbey. It makes people like me realize that healthy/intuitive eating is possible.

I’m literally watching this after I had started binge eating chocolate chip banana muffins I had made. I was upset but I find your videos so soothing. And I realized I needed to ask myself Why I did that and I think it’s because I rarely bake and I also have food allergies (eggs, dairy, nuts) so regular baked goods from stores and bakeries are not accessible to me so I think it may be because I am not around delicious baked goods on a regular basis to normalize them being around and not in scarcity for me. Kinda crazy I’m just realizing this.

Love this video! what a liberating message. When I was deep in my eating disorder and food addiction I was afraid of all types of food! But the truth is, disordered eating is not ABOUT THE FOOD. It's about what's driving us to food in the first place. Once I addressed what was really going on at a deeper level, my relationship with food normalized. Today I eat the foods that feel good in my body and I'm constantly adding new foods in. There is so much info out there about abstinence as the only way to be free from food addiction but I feel like all that does is keep us in fear of food.

One more combination that I personally love to do is cake with Skyr on the side! It's super high-protein and very fluffy, so it's a lot like a slightly tangier and denser whipped cream and goes particularly well with chocolate cake.
Cake used to be a huge fear food for me, specifically at social gatherings (well, it's been a while), however since my family or my partner's family are usually the ones hosting and I tend to have some Skyr around and a small slice of cake with a dollup of fluffy white stuff on the side doesn't look weird to anyone. If there's fruit (from the garden) I usually also take a piece on the side to add a bit of fibre as well!

At times I just want white bread for toasting or a big white jacket potato (the jacket/skin is good fibre) but mostly I choose healthier alternatives. @@muzainahsaffdar5553 I’m just wondering in the context of this video, where you may be starting with a “fear food” that has a lot of fat (eg. ice cream) do you actually have to add the healthy fat component to make it a hunger crushing combo? If you have fiber, nutrients etc. from the other foods you add to the ice cream, are eg. nut butters necessary for satiety? I googled a bit and I found one study that says monounsaturated fats such as those found in walnuts and salmon are more satiating, but I think just looking at one study might not give me the whole picture. I think it could be interesting for Abbey to break down how the different types of fats measure up in terms of keeping us full.

You’re absolutely right. And all those odd ingredients paired together mess up the flavor of the foods we’re craving. For instance, the cereal. The protein powder and cashews just thickens cereal and takes away the freshness of cereal. Same with the eggs and coffee.

A lot of people only eat like 2 or 3 types of vegetable and it would be a wonderful month of discovery for them, once they also eat stuff not on the list so they don't come to associate the new vegetables with miserable cravings for say, oreos. Plus if you suddenly up your fibre without warning (deleted deleted) lava. Ha ha
Anyway if you do decide to do it I hope you have a great month, however it goes!

Please make this a series!! I had Starbucks this morning using your idea here and it felt so freeing. I'm loving sitting here sipping my iced macchiato (with regular syrup! Not sugar free!) and not craving more because my breakfast actually satisfied me. I have a long way to go but this was a great start.

Loved this. I wish you would have elaborated a bit more on the Starbucks order…what coffee did you get? Looked like a Frappuccino perhaps. I’m guessing you didn’t go into specifics on that since you’re a fan of not critiquing coffee orders, which I get. I used to work at the Bucks and was just curious what you got or from a dietitian’s perspective if there is a recommendation you’d suggest for the actual drink itself to up the satiety factor besides getting whatever drink you order with soy milk for extra protein. Thanks for all your lovely videos, Abbey! I can’t tell you how helpful they’ve been in my journey to heal my relationship with food after many years of disordered eating, including a stint as a Beachbody coach (*cringe*) and going vegan for two years.

This is basically a guide on how to healthily eat dessert for every meal…not mad about it. Will be trying all of these.

Ooh, let's try this one. Chips with dips like.. refried beans for protein and fibre, chunky guac for fibre and fats and salsa for I guess fibre and just overall yumminess? I've always said that nachos are a balanced meal 😂

You can also make a really nice dip with tomatoes, onions and fresh herbs

I agree with nachos!! You could add beans, peppers and tomatoes and cheese to the chips. Then guacamole and sour cream and salsa on the side mmmm 😋
Or you could do chips and veggies together with a dip that tastes good on both!

I'm (thankfully) not struggling with an ED, but I still enjoy your videos. The comments under this video made me realize how much people there are struggling with this and I'm really glad they found a safe space aka your channel. Thank you for the work you do!
