That's a lot of episodes for someone to hate-watch, both in genre and not liking the series! But also hilarious "I don't like the genre BUT I can judge how much this series is standard to the genre". A couple of my friends came up with a good way to recommend anime at this point; we pick 2-3 episodes out of a series and share those as the exemplars of what the show offers. For HxH, I usually show people Kurapika taking out Uvogin and people quickly either go "I'm in" or "not my thing".
I usually prefer the "watch the first few episodes and if it draws you in, keep watching". An anime (or any series) may have cool scenes out of context, but someone may not be into the whole built up to those exact scenes. It is why I never - even though I tried thrice -could watch JJBA. The first couple of hours in any series are critical to whether or not someone will like it imo.
i usually dont care with people who hates what i like, thats just the way it is.. but if you are spreading hate just to spite everyone then thats different
This is a terrible review, but I have heard worse. An example I saw was someone said that 100 Girlfriends was ruined because the main character has an actual harem.
You know, the funny thing is, this could be a half decent critique if the guy just took some basic notes about his thoughts while watching HxH. I also find it hilarious that he says to not buy into the hype and try this anime because of it's reputation, because that's EXACTLY why I gave it a shot 10 years ago, and while I have MANY criticisms, I ended up loving it all the same.
The moment the reviewer compared HH with Naruto, One Piece & Bleach, is the moment I knew he was fed up with the hype, started watching and couldn’t accept that HH is on the same level, or even better, than the trio of shonen anime.
Aside from the horrible review, i wanna thank NenWorldReview for keeping our hunter hearts warm during the holidays and of course the hiatuses. Thank you GOAT❤
9:18 Remember that super childish pat we’re the ant opened up a hunters brain and manipulated it to give them information on nen? Basically Sesame St writing
if the author of that post would have spent half the time he took to write that paragraph paying attention to the manga/anime, it would have saved us all 10 minutes of braincells rotting.
I think the pacing complaint was literally just a complaint about the stair scene where everything happens in slow mo and you get 3 or 4 episodes of them trying to go up like 50 steps.
Holy shit, this guy. Got me so bent out of shape I had to go find my phone in order to work out my frustration in the comment section. The purpose of the Hunter Association is to identify, and develop potential nen users as well as recruit/manage current nen users. Full stop. When nen can turn a person into a weapon of mass destruction it's in everyone's best interest for someone to recruit and manage nen users. So the principal concern is bringing nen users into the fold. After that it's best to allow your nen users a certain amount of freedom to pursue their interests. If a nen user wants to work directly for the association, then all the better but now that you have tabs on the user then it's okay to let them do their own thing. That system is why you have gourmet hunters, gem hunters, archaeology hunters, etc. Your chosen hunter title is you declaring what you want to focus on when not on Hunter Association time. I really don't get why so many people struggle with understanding the Hunter Association's purpose
I'd also point out that the use of something as small and innocuous as ants as the base for Togashi's Chimera Ants is there to exemplify how a seemingly minor pest can snowball into a serious existential threat through some misfortune and utter mismanagement on the part of the state. They're' the walking embodiments things like, say, a pandemic.
"HxH is one of the many overrated shounen anime out there" Have you ever been so deeply upset by something that the only way you can express those emotions is through spontaneous singing?
To summarize, their review was basically a bunch of word vomit. Didn't back up most of their critiques and they misused words several times. They also expose themselves multiple times on how little they actually know about manga/anime and how Hunter x Hunter is written by only a single author, and doesn't have "writers" like they claim. They also don't know the difference between a genre and a demographic, because they refer to shonen as a genre multiple times. There is a manga under the shonen demographic for practically every type of genre under the sun. Some MAL reviews should be used in cringe compilations to be honest.
@@ozzyfanatic666 that's what I thought too at first. But I re-watch the anime and read the manga again. Now chimera arc is my favorite because I'm excited about the dark continent, and the chimera arc is the teaser to the dark continent.
There’s so many details missing from that review. They need more examples and to explain what’s actually contradictory. I agree for the Gon super human strength thing, but it’s never really bugged me. I’m glad most if not everyone can agree that Yorknew is great in some way. Your points were good throughout this
I can guarantee that when he was talking about power scaling he was referring to Kurapika. He goes from being one of the most mid participants in the hunter exam being portrayed as leagues behind characters like Killua, Hanzo, Hisoka, Illumi and even Gon. To curbstomping Uvogin who singlehandedly killed 4 of the shadowbeasts.
Which would make sense if you completely miss the part where a lot of Kuralika's abilities are overpowered against ONLY the Phanton Troupe but is useless against anyone else. Emperor Time however is busted af.
As much as I generally dislike "reading bad comments" videos or "this take was so bad" videos... this was pretty funny to watch. I feel like the review was written by a teenager who hate-watched the show after his friends said "You should watch HxH because it was so much better than Naruto." And then he went and wrote this review.
I am amused by the fact that Liam was able to keep his composure, knowing that his feelings for HxH is similar to mine. I would just go on to rant about the lack of brain substance of this specific review author
This dudes arguments are basically just that family guy episode where they’re in the safe room filling with water and Peter says he doesn’t care for the god father and can’t actually come up with a good reason why. “It insist upon itself.”
If gon kurapika leorio killua became new members of the phantom Troupe with hisoka as the head, that would be craaaaazy . With the rest of the slots being kept by whoever survives. Reveal that the spiders all have nen curses that don't allow them to kill each other or something crazy so now they all have to get along and become friends. End the series and introduce a new 4 characters that want to kill our main cast
As someone whose recently started watching the English dub of the 2011 anime series, and who has just reached the beginnings of the Yorknew City arc, I’ve gotta say, that HunterXHunter has been a fantastic experience thus far. The characters are interesting, word-building on par with the likes of One Piece, with greater pacing in comparison to that series. And just beginning to engage with Nen as a power system, whilst more complex than the likes of say Devil Fruits or Stands, etc. etc. the ideas presented are greatly inspired and interesting. After investing some time into learning about this intricately detailed system, it’s fun to think of all the possibilities it could play in the story and its characters. This review explained in the video is incredibly vague, and to use the writer’s own phrase, VERY contradictory.
Morel even told Killua that he had already lost when he started to compare Nen. The abilities and creativity you can develop with Nen is what makes it so interesting and hard to "power scale". That guy has the thought process of an ant 🐜 and not chimera.
In terms of power scaling I'm very grateful Togashi decides to keep it contained. When he did use the usual escalation of power to rise the stakes he left that as the biggest peak the antagonists achieved, once they got neutralized we got back to Hisoka and PT as the strongest. So even being caught up to the manga you can still go back to the chimera ant arc and see it for what it is, feel the big threat they were and not feel "fun times when we thought the chimera ants were tough"
I think the part where he's talking about destroying the atmosphere that was built up, he's gotta be talking about Gon chasing those yellow creatures and then solving it by just talking to them lmao it was really fun tho
this is the kinda guy who complains about the Mario Movie having mushrooms that make you big for unexplained reasons this is the kinda guy to whine about Adventure Time not making any sense this is the kinda guy who complains about Regular Show not being regular this is the kind of guy to complain about Minecraft not having a definitive goal or road to follow to said goal
Sounds like a troll or rage bait review. I recently rewatched HxH and while I have some gripes with it (greed island arc in general for example), the show is outstanding, with one of the best power systems in all of shounen, compelling and complex characters, and interesting story. Honestly my only real complaint would be that it has stopped and entered a semi permanent hiatus. But that's not a real complaint, its just something I wish would change before HxH suffers the Berserk situation.
Chimera Ant arc is one of the best arcs ever. Only thing i criticize about it is, i think few more characters could have been intruduce. Tho netero only having a select few could be a sign of arrogance and my theory he wanted gon because he was unstable powerhouse that did whar he did at the cost of his life. Whem how deceptive ging and the rat is, netero had to of been as well. Everyone who ever watched hunter knew netero and the zoldyks were some of the strongest op characters but that slowed down pacing and sense of unease even with the the op characters was superbly done. Also hunterxhunter is the best anime ever did it.
3:04 super senses were attributed to him growing up in rural whale island and being in nature a lot, his super human strength is explained by the testing gates which made it so in the 1999 version he alone can push 2 metric tons by himself. His high aura metric can be attributed to being Ging’s child and the same could likely be done for many of his other physical gifts but this isn’t to say it is directly nature over nurture in all instances.
I'm going do what this guy didn't explain why I don't like something. I'm not really a fan of Gon I don't hate him but I also don't love him he's just there. Compared to the other characters in the world I felt Gon was simple and a very straight forward character. I think he has some cool moments when in Greed Island just chilling as a normal kid but for the most part he doesn't do much for me personally.
I feel the same way. This RUclips channel has a video about how the author purposely made Gon a more generic character to let the other characters shine in comparison, but it does still have that effect of making Him a bit bland.

🤓
This is a terrible review, but I have heard worse. An example I saw was someone said that 100 Girlfriends was ruined because the main character has an actual harem.
100 Girlfriends is such an un-serious and silly anime that most of the hate that some people have for it seems misplaced.
Some people think they're Michelin Star Critics, but for anime.
All who think they are have opinions as valuable as the average politician.
LMFAOOOO WHAT 😂😂😂
Pretty sure that guy never had a girl and was just jealous
Wait......what?
I respect people's opinions, because at the end they're just opinions. But i also need them to respect that i think their opinion is just bad.
me when i'm in a media illiteracy competition and my opponent is a shonen fan: 😰😰😰😰
"He didn't fall?! Contradictory!"
"You keep on using that word...I do not think it means what you think it means."
Oooo new shiny amazing videooo! Time to reread HxH because you keep it relevant!!! Thank you for your service in these dark times!!
The fact that Newworldreview isn't getting pissed while analysing the review is amazing.
"HxH not thinking things through"
overthinking things is probabliy one of its most prominent features
The moment the reviewer compared HH with Naruto, One Piece & Bleach, is the moment I knew he was fed up with the hype, started watching and couldn’t accept that HH is on the same level, or even better, than the trio of shonen anime.
I love you for keeping on making HxH contents. I'll never be tired watching them. Thank you.
Hey please can you tell me what he's saying exactly? Because i didn't get it! My english is weak a little bit, please
Liam: You will regret this. Me: proceeds inhale every second of this video bc it's a new hxh video
Aside from the horrible review, i wanna thank NenWorldReview for keeping our hunter hearts warm during the holidays and of course the hiatuses.
Thank you GOAT❤

Remember that super childish pat we’re the ant opened up a hunters brain and manipulated it to give them information on nen? Basically Sesame St writing
hxh is a lot of things but it's definitely not a typical shounen
if the author of that post would have spent half the time he took to write that paragraph paying attention to the manga/anime, it would have saved us all 10 minutes of braincells rotting.
I think the pacing complaint was literally just a complaint about the stair scene where everything happens in slow mo and you get 3 or 4 episodes of them trying to go up like 50 steps.
One of the best anime’s I’ve ever watched, and no one can tell me otherwise. The power scaling, unique characters and powers. Beautiful
Hunter Hunter is bad because Koala bears aren't bears. - This reviews logic.
If you told me this person watched HxH with his eyes closed I would believe you.
I’ve never seen a HxH review that feels like the person was watching every other scene, but here we are
I'd also point out that the use of something as small and innocuous as ants as the base for Togashi's Chimera Ants is there to exemplify how a seemingly minor pest can snowball into a serious existential threat through some misfortune and utter mismanagement on the part of the state. They're' the walking embodiments things like, say, a pandemic.
"HxH is one of the many overrated shounen anime out there"
Have you ever been so deeply upset by something that the only way you can express those emotions is through spontaneous singing?
“Contradictory!”
Inigo Montoya voice “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
God bless you still popping off with such bamger vids you're really merrying my Christmas 🙏
lol the chimera arc is the best arc because it introduced a creature from dark continent, and how powerful even just an ant is in the dark continent.
The Chimera Ant Arc is terrible
@@ozzyfanatic666 that's what I thought too at first. But I re-watch the anime and read the manga again. Now chimera arc is my favorite because I'm excited about the dark continent, and the chimera arc is the teaser to the dark continent.
my brain is not braining with this review.
Except that they explain very clearly why he is so powerful under certain conditions 😂
To be fair, Gon has a big influence changing Kilua's personality.
Something tells me this person writes an unhealthy amount of fanfiction.
To quote futurama: you can't have your characters announce their feelings, that makes me feel angry
I would just go on to rant about the lack of brain substance of this specific review author
a hunter is explicitly explained tho, they are masters in their craft who get privileges after getting a license.
I’m surprised they didn’t say anything about hisoka’s predatory behavior
This dudes arguments are basically just that family guy episode where they’re in the safe room filling with water and Peter says he doesn’t care for the god father and can’t actually come up with a good reason why. “It insist upon itself.”
only thing i can say 100% for hunterxhunter its if togashi wasent sick , the big 3 would be one piece hxh and bleach
Noticed he threw all but One Piece under the buss in the standard Shounen argument.
Media literacy is dead and MAL reviews killed it
If gon kurapika leorio killua became new members of the phantom Troupe with hisoka as the head, that would be craaaaazy . With the rest of the slots being kept by whoever survives. Reveal that the spiders all have nen curses that don't allow them to kill each other or something crazy so now they all have to get along and become friends. End the series and introduce a new 4 characters that want to kill our main cast
Would also work because hisoka was never actually a spider in the show.
The only bad thing about HxH is that we don't have more
My entire thought process was,
“Contradictory”
You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means
HxH sucks because Ichigo's motivation to become pirate king is way too childish
😂😂😂
Well that was painful honestly i really appreciate the effort you took to read a whole review talking bad about such a great series people like.
Internet rule number 1: don’t pay attention to the trolls
I think your editor might be a specialist. Another great review of a review, internet man in a tiny box.
Contradictory, I can see where he was coming from and why Liam decided to make video on this but he isn't completely wrong, Contradictory.
Always a good day when you upload
"You keep on using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means" -Inigo Montoya
Prolly written by AI.
I think the part where he's talking about destroying the atmosphere that was built up, he's gotta be talking about Gon chasing those yellow creatures and then solving it by just talking to them lmao it was really fun tho
Bro convinced himself that it was a standard shonen and got upset when it wasn’t
In some ways it reminds me of the papers kids turn in when they only read the spark notes and not the whole book.
When you have to give a book report for a book you hate even though you didn't read it. 😂
I think the most glaring oversight they made was neglecting to mention that bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum
this is the kinda guy who complains about the Mario Movie having mushrooms that make you big for unexplained reasons
this is the kinda guy to whine about Adventure Time not making any sense
this is the kinda guy who complains about Regular Show not being regular
this is the kind of guy to complain about Minecraft not having a definitive goal or road to follow to said goal
'None of the chimera ants even look like ants.' I'm sorry, what the feck does the queen look like?
HxH is indeed one of the best anime ever but Chimera Ant Arc is terrible, almost made me stop watching the show
If you throw around the word contradictory enough people will just believe
3:04 super senses were attributed to him growing up in rural whale island and being in nature a lot, his super human strength is explained by the testing gates which made it so in the 1999 version he alone can push 2 metric tons by himself. His high aura metric can be attributed to being Ging’s child and the same could likely be done for many of his other physical gifts but this isn’t to say it is directly nature over nurture in all instances.
basically he is a 14 year old "COOL" anime fan who got into anime by instagram reels
Mans didn't know he was watching an anti shounen and gets anti-shounened 😂😂😂
Perfect.
If you don’t have a open mind, you can’t understand Hunter Hunter.
The person who wrote this review is clearly a Disney princess advocate
I'm going do what this guy didn't explain why I don't like something. I'm not really a fan of Gon I don't hate him but I also don't love him he's just there. Compared to the other characters in the world I felt Gon was simple and a very straight forward character. I think he has some cool moments when in Greed Island just chilling as a normal kid but for the most part he doesn't do much for me personally.
I feel the same way. This RUclips channel has a video about how the author purposely made Gon a more generic character to let the other characters shine in comparison, but it does still have that effect of making Him a bit bland.
I always found one of pitous last lines funny but not bad. When gon gets biiig pitou says an enemy blessed with talent is willing to throw it all away. Or something along those lines. Well of course he is pitou you were about to kill him, sounds like a win if you can make a nen vow to ateast kill your killer
God i love that animated liam head with the giant lips lol id love to have that on a t shirt or something
In case you don't know a chimera is an individual whose body is composed of cells that are genetically distinct, as if they are from different individuals
gon was a psychopath. he wasn't able to chance much without losing his own innocence, diving deeper and deeper into darkness
The plot seems to be built around the idea of self-loathing and trying to overcome it.
This guy has some good fictional hunter content ❤
Essentially some people’s taste are simply unredeemable lol whoever did this review I definitely wouldn’t want to be around during a berserk rewatch
I have to say this is a good response to a review, the review itself is a bit confusing as some of their thoughts haven't been communicated
Bro watched the show with his eyes closed
