Hesu Demon Speakers sounds very bright with specific fizz. So in this case MTP 440DM can sounds best. For me best one is LCT 240 Pro, needs just a bit diff amp setting or pos and done. Both are great.
Thanks so much for this awesome review, Ola! Happy you like it! We feel definitely honored! And of course, we're already excited to get some more feedback from everyone who wants to give us some input...
LEWITT well I’ve got to say, that’s an amazing, clear sound for 100$. Very affordable. They’re pretty good! If I’m ever in an environment where I can record from a cab, I’ll have to consider. I record with a direct input for the time being. I would get one! 😁
MTP 440 DM is wide but focussed. 550 is clear in the mix. The 240 Pro also works well but it sounds less focussed I checked the specs - from 4kHz to 8kHz it is still picking up (about -8db of) reflected sound @ 180deg (BEHIND the mic). Which is why it is SO "wide". Thanks as always, Ola very informative Sincerly ~ Double Bass player.
Even though I never use it, I actually preferred the 58. I usually end up using a 121 or 57. The 58 just sounded less fizzy to me. Like I am not saying they are bad or anything, obviously, but a few of them did color the tone. Definitely could see some of the applications.
I personally liked the 440 the best for an overall tone, the 550 would do the best in a mix. The LCT 240 is something I'd really want to have to spice up my sound! It has just has that extra bit of grit that you sometimes want.
I'm really torn between the 440 and the 550. That 550 cut really well and was super tight in the low end, but the 440 sounded pretty natural and uncompressed. The choices!
For Guitar alone, I found the MTP550 DM AWESOME. I think that blended with the LCT will do a very good mix. The SM58 sounded the most familiar and most "suited into the mix", but could also easily get "lost" in the mix. The M160 sounded very boomy, even though I always thought it sounded superb.
440, 550 are AMAZING and the 240Pro is awesome too! I'd probably record with both of them at the same time with a large cab. As a matter of fact @Ola - have you ever tried getting off the cabinet's back and mic up the speakers from behind? You get some sick frequencies you can add later in the mix, depending what mic you use!
The MTP 440 sounds tight it's close with the 58. The M160 is nice and warm. its a toss up with the M160 and LCT 240 for body. in the end its how you dial it i guess. Nice video!
I am listening with Studio Monitors and for me, the LCT 240 sounded more full and clear. But the 440 was amazing until I heard the 240. But I can definitely hear why you chose the 440!! Not to mention Yingwees Mouthstien endorses it.
This comparison videos are GOLD for every metal musician out there, thank you so much Ola. BTW the riffs you play in the video are just SICK, and the sound quality is insane! I wish I could join your membership! p.s.I remember the old daze, when Jaymz, Lars and Yngwie first released Kill'em all!
The 240 and the 440 sound better over the others to my ears.. I’ve always used a 57 or 609 sennheiser live.. might have to look into one of these. Thanks Ola!
Nice test Ola. Lot of really good information on the Lewitt website including interviews with world class engineers, producers and more. Very cool stuff!!
MTP 440 has the perfect balance of mid and hi freq for my taste. Loved the review and you should keep them coming with exemples of different possible applications. Cheers from Canada Ola!
From my computer speaker set at office-friendly volume they all sound the same (great) aside from the SM58, which sounded hissy. I'll be excited to hear the differences when I get back to my hotel and can get my earbuds in.
I found the 550 perfect for my type of sound - which is very Petrucci influenced, but the 440 sounded awesome too for when you really dig in... All in all two very competent microphones! The 240 on the other hand didn't have the characteristics of a microphone that I'd use for this type of sound, but perhaps moving it around a bit could solve that problem? I only just realised how cheap the 550 is...?! A real contender to SM57/SM58 for sure!
I liked the 440 alone and in the mix (my fave of the 3), and the 240 sounded meh alone but AMAZING in the mix. Not at all a fan of the 550. It sounded really fizzy both alone and in the mix. Great demo, thank you!
240 solo. To me it has that really open and organic sounding voicing to it. but in the mix the 550 cuts right through and it sounds awesome. so i'd prefer that over the 240 pro which is really good sounding on its own. And thank you for the demo Ola. Nice video as always
In solo I kinda hated the 240 Pro, had a lot of top fizz I'd wanna filter out, but in the mix context I think it had maybe the most clarity? Probably one of those sources you know just needs a little bit of filtering; capture 120% and trim the fat back to 100%. All of them sounded super cool!
It's probably because it has a lot of mids that you normally scoop out to sound better for bedroom practice etc, so having the mic already pushing those frequencies made it cut through like butter
I think I'd go with the 550 or the sm58 personally. The 240 had a scratchy high end compared to the others. The m160 sounds like all the mids are scooped out fully lol.
Nice video! MTP 550 and 440 sounded really nice on the Genelec 8030 and Dahli Zensor the SM58 was surprisingly bright and sounded best in lower volumes.
I normally use dynamics, maybe with an additional condenser besides it. I did like all 3 Lewitts, but the openness of the high end of the 240 sounded very nice to me. I'd sure like to test some combinations with those mics
All were really good! I like the 240 pro. I'm a 57 guy but it's nice to hear something new that actually kicks ass. I would use all of them. Thanks Ola, nice video!
I really liked the LCT 240 when you put it in the mix - I think the 440 and 550 sounded very much alike in the mix. None of them were bad sounding at all though.
The MTP 550 DM is my favorite. Mainly because I feel that I get the most open sound overall. Lots of tight bass and treble. The other microphones sound like the signals come from a slightly hotter pickup and loose a lot of the dynamics. The others don’t loose dynamics to the same degree but the 550 sounds like having my ears in front of the speaker and I really like that.
MTP 440, than with a small difference ther still is the SM 58. The other Levitt seemed a bit too harsh for the tone I like. But - maybe - this is a matter of the production, how you process the mikes / the signal chain for the final mix.
If I were to buy one, it would be the 440. I also like the 550, and would consider both. The 240 was bit too nasal for me, but might be cool when mixed with another mic on the cab since it has a distinctive response on its own.
Lct Pro 240's sounding good in the high end I gotta admit. The thing that took me by supprise was the shure sm58, same one i got i noticed, not too shabby.
I think the LCT 240 Pro sounded the best. It seemed to have a crisp, full range capture. Thanks for the heads up on the Lewitt mics! They're affordable. I was watching some videos using the 440 Pure for vocals and it sounds great.
I think the MTP 440 DM sounded better without the mix. But within the mix the MTP 550DM was a lot more fixiated on the mids and highs. I prefer the MTP 550 DM in the mix.
for me: M160 > MTP 440 DM > MTP 550 DM > SM58 > LCT 240 PRO Ola, make a video trying the Royer Ribbon 121 (and maybe other models from Royer if it's possible) with other microfones like M160, SM57/58, MTP 440 DM. This Royer Ribbon 121 is always my choice in all guitar plugins.
those dynamic mics sound amazing... the condenser not so much. i bet mixing the sm58 and the 550 would sound amazing. the 58 has the excellent midrange and bottom end while the 550 has the clarity and tight, crunchy highs.
I would use both the 440 and 550 and balance them with eachother in cone/edge placement/angle beside mix compression and eq, maybe one more left and the other more right too. 240 sounds defintly useful too, could be interesting to hear some dual mic experiments with those 3.
I have to say that the 550 DM really stood out among the other mics. It doesn't have a solid low end like all the other mics but it makes up for that with being very bright and clear. That mic could make a guitar track razor-sharp and cut through any mix. I think paired up with the 240 or the 440 as your dark mics you could blend a massive tone that really sits well in a mix.
I LOVED the 440 both in the mix and guitar only, but I slightly prefer the 550 in the mix, but not alone. I still think the 58 sounded awesome, nevertheless.
hi ola ,i prefer the SM58 because it's sound more natural for me ,but i like the 440 very open but less brighter than the SM58. thanks for the video.take care .
The MTP and the 58 were the best for guitar tones... Hard to go wrong with a 57/58 but I agree my favorite was the MTP for the reasons you stated. Lewitt has been making some fantastic mics.
Hi Ola, in one of your videos you show how must be a correct connection between Metal Zone pedal and effect loops but no cable was connected to amp input. How it’s possible... i mean i try that but it just works when i use both of send and return from effect loops but i still need to connect my guitar in front of my amp... Thanks for your videos and stuffs.
550 primary, 240 as a substitute for AKG, I’ll bet it’s a good room capturerer, 440 for balls/rhythms. & the 58 for high end sparkle; simultaneously & check your phase phukkery! I interned is a pro studio during the Seattle grunge time, we got all over the room w/mics.
Hey Ola!. Im agreed, the MTP 440 DM really deals very well with high and low frequencies.....and those riffs dude!, so sick!, made headbang from the biginning!! hehe
The Lewitt's sound awesome, but I personally liked the SM58 the best. However, I bet a combo of the 440DM and the condenser model would yield some nice results. These are great sounding mics for the price.
The M160 was my least favourite. A bit muddy. I could've used any of the other ones. Since you said in an earlier video that you didn't care about what strings you use, maybe you should start in that end first? We all remember the old nursery rhyme we all grew up with: Brain, body, arms, STRINGS, STRINGS, fingers, pick, pickups, amplification and then choose a suitable microphone la la la la. Since "Lamb Of God's - As The Palaces Burn" is the best record ever and everyones favourite, I would really like to know what makes it your favourite record? Always interesting to hear different opinions on something we all agree on. Do you prefer the original or the remixed/remastered version the best? Take care
I have found a new favourite microphone for Guitar recording. SICK! SUBSCRIBE!
But what microphone is your favorite for recording burps?
Hesu Demon Speakers sounds very bright with specific fizz. So in this case MTP 440DM can sounds best. For me best one is LCT 240 Pro, needs just a bit diff amp setting or pos and done. Both are great.
Mtp 550 FTW
Hey @sinquestsound nice to meet you here again! Thanks for the feedback!
Their website said he uses the 550 I'm confused ,,, I like trying new things ,,, I'm gonna get the 440
Thanks so much for this awesome review, Ola! Happy you like it! We feel definitely honored! And of course, we're already excited to get some more feedback from everyone who wants to give us some input...
LEWITT well I’ve got to say, that’s an amazing, clear sound for 100$. Very affordable. They’re pretty good!

nice job LEWITT, nice :)
Andrei Grigore Many thanks :)
Arief Ardiansyah We think so? Check out audiostation
Visceral Abomination Thanks for the nice feedback and for the consideration! :)
Ola doing mic reviews. I better watch my back. He’s going to take over!!!!
Dude! You're a fan of Ola? That's awesome! Love your reviews
I think I liked the 440 when solo'd, but the 550 in a mix
Glad you like them! Thank you, Jaysen!
A mix of both should sound huge !
Yeah same
2nded
Same here!
There’s the right way, the wrong way and the Yngwie!!
Yngwie would probably say:
"There’s the Yngwie way and the wrong way"
there's also the Max Power way, which is like the wrong way, but faster.
Uncle Ben? :D
Lukas Grässlin I’m not that clever, Uncle Ben is correct
that microphone shreds too much and has no feeling!!
(oh and my favourite was LCT 240 cause i like high-mid freq guitar tones)
240 sounds thin in the bottom , at least thru monitors and 2 subs... I say the 440 and the 240 one in each speaker
lol and yeah it kind of reminded me of a V30 speaker voice
MTP 440 DM is wide but focussed. 550 is clear in the mix.
The 240 Pro also works well but it sounds less focussed I checked the specs - from 4kHz to 8kHz it is still picking up (about -8db of) reflected sound @ 180deg (BEHIND the mic). Which is why it is SO "wide".
Thanks as always, Ola very informative
Sincerly ~ Double Bass player.
How you can make a 5 minute video have more information than some people's 30 minute videos is beyond me.
Because he doesn't beat around the bush and gets straight to the point.
*cough* Chapper and the Captain *cough*
The 440 sounds colossal on its own. 550 is a monster in the mix.
That 550 brought out the growl
Even though I never use it, I actually preferred the 58. I usually end up using a 121 or 57. The 58 just sounded less fizzy to me.
Like I am not saying they are bad or anything, obviously, but a few of them did color the tone. Definitely could see some of the applications.

The 440 and 58 sound very similar and I preferred them most in the mix. The mids are clear and the top end isn't excessively fizzy.
They sound great! Would love to hear a combination of the 240 and 440 together. More burps!
The MTP 440 sounds soooo HUUUGE!!!!
I bet that if you use the 440 and the Boss Heavy Metal, you'll get the most evil swedish sound EVER!!!!
O mer gerd!
I'm really torn between the 440 and the 550. That 550 cut really well and was super tight in the low end, but the 440 sounded pretty natural and uncompressed. The choices!
Thats not Yngwie, its Kerry King from the band Deaf Leopard
Deal feopard 😁
Yngwie bares a resemblance to Kirk Hammett
your logic is flawless
Me likes that slider action! And sounds ofcourse!
I loved the 550 and the lewit condensor.
Nice riff !!! I like the MTP 440, I kinda ear what you play better in the mix than the other microphone.
I’m digging the 58 and 440 over all. All others are great but compress or color the tone. Still beautiful but all get different results.
Many thanks for the feedback, Jason! Glad you like the MTP 440 DM!
I second this!
I liked the M160 the best but the MTP 550 DM sounds really good, too
So I probably get my hands on one of those
cool...I think I liked the 550 best...the condenser was cool too...I'd use both..!!!
The MTP 440 sounds tight it's close with the 58. The M160 is nice and warm. its a toss up with the M160 and LCT 240 for body. in the end its how you dial it i guess. Nice video!

The lct240 sounds so grindy, I'm in love with these mics. They sound amazing.

Great test! My personal favourites are the 440 and 550, very cool!
SM58 and MTP 440 DM were in my ears balanced in all freq. and had ubermega fking killer sound :D
Nice test Ola. Lot of really good information on the Lewitt website including interviews with world class engineers, producers and more. Very cool stuff!!
The 440 is definitely one of my favorites. It also works really great on snare drums
That 440 sounds sick
The 240 Pro sounded the best to my ears, the mid-high tones seems like they'd cut right through a mix
Yep, this was my favorite too, but I'm partial to "Old Man Tone" as Ola calls it.
Yes!!!
That cab finish is outstanding!
The 440 and 550 sounded pretty cool both in and out of the mix
Agree on the 440
MTP 440 sounds good in both situations. LCT 240 sounds fizzy alone, but suprise me in a mix, sounds good.
I think both sounds great.
MTP 440 has the perfect balance of mid and hi freq for my taste. Loved the review and you should keep them coming with exemples of different possible applications. Cheers from Canada Ola!
MTP 440 DM and the 550 DM sound killer to me
I really liked the Shure SM58 the best. The 440 was defenatly my second favorite. That was a really good sound comparison. Thanks Ola.
To me the 440 was round and full and complete. I really like that. Would be nice to hear the 440 and 550 in a mix together.
From my computer speaker set at office-friendly volume they all sound the same (great) aside from the SM58, which sounded hissy. I'll be excited to hear the differences when I get back to my hotel and can get my earbuds in.
The 440 sounds great! I like the 240 as well.
COOL RIFFS ! So inspiring
I liked the 440 but the good ole sm 58 was my favorite in the mix
Nice camera angles for the diff mics.
I think I'd go with the 550 or the sm58 personally. The 240 had a scratchy high end compared to the others. The m160 sounds like all the mids are scooped out fully lol.
Nic Lastname agreed
Nice video! MTP 550 and 440 sounded really nice on the Genelec 8030 and Dahli Zensor the SM58 was surprisingly bright and sounded best in lower volumes.
I like the editing here. Very good for A/B/C/D/E/F comparisons.
Ola can you do more videos on anything about Yngwie? His other gear, your favorite albums of his?
I just got the lct 240. Really like that snarl in the low mids. It pairs pretty nice with my Heil PR20
The others don’t loose dynamics to the same degree but the 550 sounds like having my ears in front of the speaker and I really like that.
Hi Ola, will there be a blog about the trip to Moscow ? P.S I will try to be there
MTP 440, than with a small difference ther still is the SM 58. The other Levitt seemed a bit too harsh for the tone I like. But - maybe - this is a matter of the production, how you process the mikes / the signal chain for the final mix.
I was thinking the same thing. Some of them seemed out of control. The SM58 seems much easier to contain.
Like always i think that a blend would be perfect.
the 240 and the 440 in a 30/70 blend
If I were to buy one, it would be the 440. I also like the 550, and would consider both. The 240 was bit too nasal for me, but might be cool when mixed with another mic on the cab since it has a distinctive response on its own.
Lct Pro 240's sounding good in the high end I gotta admit. The thing that took me by supprise was the shure sm58, same one i got i noticed, not too shabby.
Any chance you could get some IR's for us too? Would love an IR of the 440 and the 550!
Also try the beyerdynamic d50d, really starting to become a favorite of mine.
I prefer the MTP 550 DM in the mix.
for me:
M160 > MTP 440 DM > MTP 550 DM > SM58 > LCT 240 PRO
Ola, make a video trying the Royer Ribbon 121 (and maybe other models from Royer if it's possible) with other microfones like M160, SM57/58, MTP 440 DM.
Great quality shoutout! Fun and pro! I'm gonna buy The Mtp 440 Dm! Thanks Ola!
Would you be willing to put out a custom Impulse Response pack? I think it would be a top IR Pack for sure!
440 and 550 sounded great imo. Leaning towards 440 aswell
440 was my initial favorite as well, agree with many comments that I would mix the 550 with it.
I think I'll put a 440 on the list
I think the sm58 sounds the best... but the 440 is awesome and sound huge. Never heard one before... thanks Ola!
Total agrees on the 440s Olas! The 550 and 240 would probably work great together 👍
Don't know why i wrote that like Skwisgaar.
440 DM and SM58 are my favorites! They sound really badass
I actually liked the SM58 the best. The 440 was my runner up. I wonder how it would sound in a mix with those together?
That LCT 240 Pro sounds right up my alley! Can't exactly find websites that carry those mics with accurate prices to ship to Canada. :/
MTP440DM and SM58 sounds great, already gets the real dialing of the amp
The 440 and the 58 are mix ready I think compared to the others which is convienient isn't it?!
The 440 sounded great by itself and the 550 seemed to cut better in the mix. Not easy!
Riff at 2:39 is killer!!
I liked the 550 best in the mix, the sm58 is really good still.
Yeah that 440 sounds really nice, probably my fav of the bunch. The 550 sounded better in the mix than standalone tbh, a bit harsh.
Hey Ola!. Im agreed, the MTP 440 DM really deals very well with high and low frequencies.....and those riffs dude!, so sick!, made headbang from the biginning!! hehe
I really like the 440 honestly. It is the smoothest but still has a lot of articulation and fits into the mix very well. Not too fizzy either.
I'd totally love a video with 440 and the 240 together in a mix split with a mixer for a chuggy sound
The Lewitt's sound awesome, but I personally liked the SM58 the best. However, I bet a combo of the 440DM and the condenser model would yield some nice results. These are great sounding mics for the price.
The M160 was my least favourite. A bit muddy. I could've used any of the other ones.
Since you said in an earlier video that you didn't care about what strings you use,
maybe you should start in that end first?
We all remember the old nursery rhyme we all grew up with: Brain, body, arms, STRINGS, STRINGS, fingers, pick, pickups, amplification and then choose a suitable microphone la la la la.
Since "Lamb Of God's - As The Palaces Burn" is the best record ever and everyones favourite,
I would really like to know what makes it your favourite record?
Always interesting to hear different opinions on something we all agree on.
Do you prefer the original or the remixed/remastered version the best?
Take care
Sadly you can buy the rest of them and decide which you like best for the price of the M160
