I tell my kids not to worry about me when I'm old and decrepit and can't leave home, I will just sit and watch videos like this from my youth and be blissfully happy.
Ted McDougal 1972. As a 6 year old, this was my first Villa game. 48,000 crowd in the old THIRD division. Villa came back to win 2-1. I remember hardly anything of the game, apart from the noise reducing me to tears. Happy days!.
This is so odd. I'm 53. I haven't been interested in football for decades. But watching this takes me back to the football-crazy kid I was. The clips from 1976 onwards were maybe shown by BBC twice, three times, four at the most but so many up to around 1983 are indelibly stamped in the memory forever, commentary and camera angles, the lot..
" A pirouette and a real crunch to the far corner.." - barry davies. Played the video to death back in the late 80s! Great to watch it again after all these years..
Loved going to White Hart Lane, Highbury, Upton Park and Stamford Bridge.....the away end £10 standing, just queue and get in. I loved all the Admiral, Umbro and Adidas kits and Patrick, Puma and Adidas boots and Minerva Supreme,Adidas Tango footballs and Mitre red and white League cup football... i just can't get enough or ever forget fantastic days!!!!!!!!!.
Did exactly the same as you, mostly same grounds strangely. Only difference was that it was 50 pence to get in . I must be twenty years older than you. Used to go down the Orient a lot as well.
@@grahamwood9428 10.00 standing at Chelsea away end was early 90s because I drove to Stamford bridge and parked nearby. I remember outside a pub Chelsea fans asking where's all the Tottenham and asking me questions about Chelsea to see if I was a Chelsea fan, I was relieved I knew all the answers. I dislike pink, yellow and orange boots the most I today's football.
Thank you so much for posting this. Watched it at least 50 times as a teenager and still have the VHS, but haven't seen it in years. Great memories. Always used to be baffled at why Jimmy Greaves' goal was included!
I put this on 20 years after last watching it and still remember just about every bit of commentary "Big John Hughes... breaking forward and giving it the hammer!"
8:54 - Ronnie Radford - "Oh, what a goal! What a goal! Radford the scorer... and the crowd are invading the pitch" - I think this is my favourite goal of all time. I love the pitch, the crowd of urchins, the effort, and the rocket shot from 35 yards, what's not to like.
As a 9 year old in 74 onwards, I can definitely say that I remember all of those goals post 74 [ I attended most of the Liverpool one's] ... great memories of Match Of The Day and ... being at some of those games as well.
loved match of the day on a Saturday night in the 70's especially the snow games which would be cancelled today but back then they played in any kind of weather..
So pleased you put this on,I have got the VHS somewhere...And after watching #MOTD50 a couple of weeks ago,I felt very nostalgic & wanted to watch this.I used to watch it over & over again when I was 11-12 years old.Thankyou for the post 😊.
Love this vid , borrowed back in 95 and me and my buddies sat around and laughed (not at them no way) with the commentators, they were awesome, "From the corna a real cracks by Keith wells" or "oh by saaaay watta cracking goal" THANKS FOR POSTING
I can pretty much recite all the commentary on all the goals, watched this 100s of times on vhs growing up. Favourite goals include Mick Walsh and Justin fashanu
You're a legend for posting this. I had it on video years ago but it went missing, and I've been wanting to watch it for ages. It's the best goal compilation ever! Thanks, mate.
Ronnie Radford's goal is arguably the greatest goal ever.....I have left specific comments on that on the Hereford v Newcastle video so won't repeat them here. I am a Scottish guy and a lot of Scots like to point to Archie Gemmill's goal v Holland in 1978 (which was a great goal) as his best. Archie Gemmill's best goal is right here though, goal of the season. He intercepts the ball about 30 yards from his own goal, btw megs the Arsenal player, passes to Withe, the run he does to get into the Arsenal box is unbelievable and he still has the composure to finish like he does.....awesome.
awesome 101 great goals from match of the day. the english league will always be the best ever league. and i still have this on vhs today, so proud to still have it now. it does mean a lot to me. and it came out the tape same year i was born. one goal always remembered with my dad always talking about it being a spurs fan. ricky villa's classic goal 1981 fa cup final replay against man city oh yeah class. my favourite fa cup goal too. and a few years back i found it in a market the football programme of the same game bought for my dad for christmas a few years back my dad was over the moon, a special goal for me and my dad :) so a happy moment that was. thank you ricky villa for making my dad happy winning the cup with that classic goal. the other goals are magic too.
I remember home supporters applauding the away team's goal when it was special - we even did it at Upton Park. Seemed to die out in the 90s, which is a shame.
I remember watching Pop Robson at Sunderland. Every home game I'd come home and tell Dad who scored and he'd say 'what, Pop Robson again!!'. I've just checked. Pop Robson's still alive. 85 years old.
Greatest ever football video. Love the crowds, especially Middlesbrough chants of "you're gonna get your fucking head kicked in" plus the bald guy at Blackpool and the granny in pink at Stoke. Great goals and even better commentary. Had this video, wish it was on dvd, so glad it's on RUclips.
A cab driver in London collected George Best one evening. Bestie apologised saying “I’m a bit unsteady on my feet tonight”, the cabbie quick as a flash replied “that didn’t happen too often George”… What a superb great player he was..
I remember watching this years ago nearly everyday after midnights on Turkish TV channel "Kanal A". But there was no original commentary on that version. Instead of it, there were some amazing acid house songs playing. One of them was "Can You Feel The Bass?" by "Phortune". I wish I could watch it again. :(
Pick of the bunch ? Mickey Walsh. Still my favourite goal of all time. Love the fact that he had nothing else on his mind. The camera being right behind it and Barry Davies legendary commentary help too. Sublime stuff !
Should be renamed 99 great goals, a tap in by Jimmy Greaves and a a goal by Clive Allen which for for season has been included even though Keith Houchen scored a better goal in the same game.
What makes thee goals even mpre impressive is the fact that the pitches were sometimes quagmires and they used heavy, leather balls that got even heavier when they got wet.
I tell my kids not to worry about me when I'm old and decrepit and can't leave home, I will just sit and watch videos like this from my youth and be blissfully happy.
Barry Davies was such a football enthusiast, wasn't he? The sheer joy in his voice when anyone scored a great goal added something to the occasion.
Instablaster.
@@aaronmaximus6806 What the hell is a instablaster .
So true. A great commentator
The best football video I owned growing up! Must of watched this about 1000 times!

Me too I've hated football for over 30 years but those clips are so fab
8:36 - "Big John Hughes, moving forward, breathing the chance and giving it the hammer" - classic!
Amazing commentary from Barry Davies
That lob from Georgie Best. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
I'm a Spurs fan and even I'd have applauded that one
Had this on VHS growing up - loved it. Commentators back then were great.
" A pirouette and a real crunch to the far corner.." - barry davies.
Played the video to death back in the late 80s! Great to watch it again after all these years..
Had this on VHS . Must have watched it 101 times !
I had a vhs tape of this when I was young in the early 2000 . I watched it a thousand times ...good times

Yea, I always remember to this day thinking the same
My first football video I ever had.... it’s great to see it again after all these years!
John Richards v Hull City. Wolves aye we. Brilliant individual goal. Best ever wolves striker. Legend ⚽👍
Thank you, Nessun Dorma!
I put this on 20 years after last watching it and still remember just about every bit of commentary
"Big John Hughes... breaking forward and giving it the hammer!"
A quality goal by a quality player.

Commentary Gold !! wore out the vhs tape watching this growing up.

I have this on VHS!!
Thanks so much for posting this!! This was the first video I ever bought as a kid, and still have it now - just nothing to play it on.

"Look at that, Look at that".
John Motson on Liam Brady' wonderful goal in the North London derby 77/78.
I used to watch this video so much! Amazing!

When you listen to all the football commentators Barry Davies was in a different league master of his art
100% agree, he was astonishingly good
BIG JOHN HUGHES, BREATHING THE CHANCE, AND GIVING IT THE HAMMER. classic Barry Davies
no better commentary in.the world ever ...love it
barry davies and john motson will never be bettered , so lucky to grow up in this area .
Had this on video great memories when football was football
I can pretty much recite all the commentary on all the goals, watched this 100s of times on vhs growing up. Favourite goals include Mick Walsh and Justin fashanu
My favourite EVER goal is the trevor sinclair scissor kick for QPR at home to Barnsley. Pure class!!
You're a legend for posting this. I had it on video years ago but it went missing, and I've been wanting to watch it for ages. It's the best goal compilation ever!
Thanks,mate.
The first goal the sets the tone.motson:"look at that look at that what a goal by brady "Brilliant.
Back when football was a sport and not a business like today
Mickey Walsh Goal of the Century
I checked out this very video tape VHS from my Hometown's library for years... I missed it so much!
Best footballing video ever made!
I used to watch this on his father and grandfather on VHS when I was young. :)
Had this on VHS in 80s

Great comment .
Came here via Big Match Action.
Yes, I had (probably still have) this as well. Well worn.
in the 80s me mate would always put this on after going back to his from the alehouse
Joe Kinnear's blatant foul throw is the best thing arguably in here - on the pitch AND rear foot in the air!!
Was just gonna say that. The first few goals are absolute crap but onwards are great
I remember home supporters applauding the away team's goal when it was special - we even did it at Upton Park. Seemed to die out in the 90s, which is a shame.
emlyn hughes celebration is amazing.and tony curry what abou that a quality goal from a quality player
You can hear him swearing if you listen
20:21 "You're gonna get your fucking heads kicked in."
Proper.
I remember watching Pop Robson at Sunderland. Every home game I'd come home and tell Dad who scored and he'd say 'what, Pop Robson again!!'. I've just checked. Pop Robson's still alive. 85 years old.
Bird I was with when I was about 14 ,her dad had this . Great memories
Barry Davies is quality on this video - and with the right foot too!!
I had this on VHS 😮

Bald guy at Blackpool? Mick Walsh goal? Can’t see him 🤷🏻♂️
thanks for posting. Classic stuff
Had this on VHS from a Boot Sale, was one of many random football videos I'd watch at my Grandparents after school.
Bringing me back to my child vhs days!
A cab driver in London collected George Best one evening. Bestie apologised saying “I’m a bit unsteady on my feet tonight”, the cabbie quick as a flash replied “that didn’t happen too often George”…
What a superb great player he was..
Fantastic
Oh and thank you for posting on here
The commentary I know off by heart!
Thanks for putting this up. Brings back good memories. I don’t remember the picture quality being that bad though. 😂
Glad you enjoyed it
i have this video and it was made at the end of 87 season.
I had this on video too, THANK YOU so much for the upload.
how did the Jimmy Greaves goal (3:05) get in the list I never understood.
Football before the premier league and sky. Brilliant!
God bless Justin Fashanu. What a fucking goal. Magnificent commentary from the legendary Barry Davies too.
This video was released in 1987 NOT 1986 as the last 3 goals featured were from 1987, the last being that year's FA Cup Final
oh thanks for sharing,i used to have this on video when it came out cracking stuff
justin fashune was the best goal for skill ,imagination, creativity ,power and precision
unrivalled
Now Allan mullerys volley was class
Best goal ever mate. Pick that one out. ⚽
My fave on the tape. Ridiculous
Best goal on the tape. Ridiculous
thank you for posting this!!!!!
I swear some of the goals are only there cos of the sublime commentary skills. Malcolm macdonald bites the hand that used to beat/feed him!
You're probably right funkyfredfrog, some of these goals don't seem 'great' to me?
great download
Pick of the bunch ? Mickey Walsh. Still my favourite goal of all time. Love the fact that he had nothing else on his mind. The camera being right behind it and Barry Davies legendary commentary help too. Sublime stuff !
Mate i have just written my take on that great goal...
McDonald's 2nd vs Bolton was Fantastic!
Tremendous spirit from this Hereford side..
They're not giving this up by any means..
Ronnie Ranford!!!Legend!
Awesome 101
This is truly great, but it does put one in mind of that godawful Chris Waddle '1001 goals' from the early 90s.
A there's never been a better assist in the history of football, than the one at 47.50
matthew smith 😂😂😂 whatever
Great goals
Should be renamed 99 great goals, a tap in by Jimmy Greaves and a a goal by Clive Allen which for for season has been included even though Keith Houchen scored a better goal in the same game.
I had this on video in the late 80s
osgood's goal vs arsenal ⚽️
And micky walsh goal 1975.
Frankie prince's toe punt goal😩😩
“Ooh, Mick Walsh!”
Such a amazing video! :) Keep up the good content ;) Hugs from Sweden
There all on it Ronnie Radford ,Charlie George used to have this on VHS tape ....Barry Davies was class ....just look at his face etc....
That Metgod strike was something else 👏
Thanx
Free Kick at 5:30 is brilliant!
I know it’s progress but I much preferred football back in the 70’s and 80’s. The kits were so much better too...
Brooking goal(17:47) vs Liverpool was on Apr 27th, 1974
What makes thee goals even mpre impressive is the fact that the pitches were sometimes quagmires and they used heavy, leather balls that got even heavier when they got wet.
