Hey you drop this 👑
Not the hero we want, but the hero we need
#36, Evil Zone.
A fighting game that used ONE button. Triangle was every attack!
And it was genius.
Best $5 I ever spent. Got it at Media Play when they were going out of business!
#53 Jade Cocoon was also great. Never got far (someone "borrowed" my copy a week after I bought it!) but I loved what I saw.
And #93! Trap Gunner! I was actually worried the list would miss it!
This game was a blast! I've always preferred single player games, and this was one of the few multi-player games I would break out and play with friends.
I thought Im the only one I know that liked evilzone :D now I know most of peepz really loved that game
I got Evil Zone for free.
It's a goofy ass game but it's so fun.
Similar to Smash bros. It was made to have 2 buttons that control every move in combo with a directional button.
This video basically sums up why I love the PlayStation.
And though most of these games are good, still only a few of them would crack the PS1's top 100 games list. The Super Nintendo/Famicom and PS1 to me is a toss up for best system ever.
I looked these games up and lot of them got mixed reviews, even from back in the day. I picked out some of the best one that narrows it down to less than 100. Def not underrated titles. There is a reasons they are obscure and def not the better of PS1.
@@davidaitken8503 For a debut system the PS1 did a pretty damn good job, and the game library is massive, but the Super Famicom is better, but for me they're equal simply because of the RPGs.
I agree. But i stray from the PS3
Love to see Herc’s Adventures, Sheep Dog and Motor Toon Grand Prix.
Games I would mention: The Raiden Project, T’ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger, Street Racer and Jumping Flash
Oh men, T'ai Fu great memories I played a lot in my childhood.
03:54 OMG I finally obtained the Holy Grail of my childhood gaming memories I've sought for years... So it's called Future Cop LAPD! I was looking for this title for quite a long time to no avail. In my country this game is so obscure that I've never heard anybody talk about it online or IRL, and I actually didn't buy it either as I played this on a demo disc I used to have as a child but never got around to buying the product. I even forgot the title, all I had was some vague impressions of gameplay like it was an isometric shooter involving walking mechs, counter-terrorist force and stuff. Despite having never bought it then somehow I grew more and more curious about it years later but haven't been able to find any information of it. I'm really glad I stumbled upon this video. Thanks a lot!
while i would add some of my own hidden gems like Vanguard Bandit, Chocobo Racing, Front Mission 2, Meltylancer etc
this list doesnt dissapoint 👍
Wow. So many great games here. I had a lot of ps1 games probably over 200 back in the days and still happy to see that I owned 3 out of 100 of these games. I beat Strikers 1945 2 but failed to beat C12 Final Resistance and Castlevania.. I also remember skipping school to play Future Cop and PanzerBandit with my best bud..
I hope you make part 2 of this. i would love to add Nuclear Dawn and Brave Fencer Musashi though I'm not sure if they are rare or not.
I spent a lot of my childhood on Battle Hunter. I still break it out once in a while, I'd love to see a sequel.
I genuinely thought I was the only person who ever played it.
@@shanesimmons3989 my guy, it's a gem. I'm lucky to have played it, and I wanna see it come back someday.
OMG!!! Evil Zone/Eratsuvaju!!! I was searching for this game for YEARS! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!
You made me remember games that I had long forgotten!
Oh...My God.... it’s taken me almost 2 decades but I think Blaster Master was the game I’d been searching and trying to remember. Thank You
BEYOND THE BEYOND! Dude, BUST A GROOVE WAS MY FAAAAVE! Bust a groove 1 and 2.
That one "Trap Gunner" stands easily on my top 10 for best ps1 games
I looooove Trap Gunner. I´ve never seen anything like that anymore.
Aww Threads of fate. :,)
Guillermo Ali Hernandez Garcia It's an awesome game) I may be stuck playing it but I enjoyed the gameplay:)
I played it in japanese... never understood a thing but loved it
@@CrazyFriendlyGamerAlex haha me too. I buy it on ps3, and when i play in my psp after get tire of Monster hunter, switch inmediatly to this game. Playing as Mint is so fun with the mágics, also the versatile transformations of Rue along with the great soundtrack. Man, that was my childhood.
@@kayjoe327th haha cool, i was lucky to play it in Eng. At the moment you go across the forest and fight the pollywags, that becomes so much fun :').
WOW.. the games I found on this list that I wanted are actually very pricey :( . Awesome video as always! So I've always wondered, do you play all these and record a piece of each game?!? If so you must have a huuge collection that is pretty EPIC
Yes, in 99% of these cases, either myself or one of my team is playing these - and we are capturing these ourselves. So, most of the time, when you see that awful gameplay? Yep, that's me. I don't actually own most of them personally; I am fortunate to have some very well stocked collectors in my social circle that are able to provide me with many of the rarer titles!
Another fantastic list Gary 😄 fun fact, Alien Resurrection was the first game to use what have now become modern FPS controls, it's a history book of a game for the genre, I've owned it for a decade and still never completed it, PS1 games are tough 😭
Sadly, Alien Resurrection came out late in the PS1's life cycle -so it didn't get much press. I loved it - it was genuinely scary, too. One of the most graphically impressive PS1 games!
@@GaryRetroGamer I agree, definitely scary! I loved Alien Trilogy on PS1 too, man that game is one of my favourites of all time! I definitely need to get around to completing Resurrection sooner or later though..
For a channel just named "Gary" you have some pretty damn interesting videos without all the b.s. just getting straight to the good stuff I couldn't believe how many Sega Saturn games there were for Japan only that were good games it just boggles my mind that they never were released in the U.S. might of made the outcome of the bad sales with the Sega Saturn different if it had more of a variety of decent games
Finally, someone mentioned "Silent Bomber & C-12"!!
Fantastic games both.
Been collecting for the PS1 recently. I missed out on ALOT of neat games!!
Brought back a lot of memories, and I loved the king's field. Vandal Hearts and ssxtricky. Bro, the alien on a ufo snowboard.
Evil Zone was my favorite fighting game from PS1 ❤️
Gary,many compliments for your videos:i always have good time.But i think,they need one more second,between one videogame,and the other,to appreciate them completely.Thank you,have a good day.
+Gandalf Il Grigio Thanks for the kind words and feedback! A few others have said the same thing - that 6 seconds is not enough; the problem is that I work in 10 minutes pieces. Most of my viewers are people who prefer a 10 minute maximum. Having said that, I recently posted a "Top 50 N64 In 10 Minutes" which means I doubled the time to a generous 12 seconds per video! Please check it out and let me know if you prefer this
Building some pi's for my brother and sister, never realized how good the ps1 library was until now, games I didn't know or forgot about, plus I love the early 3d graphics
Super great list you mentioned stuff no one's talking about great job
Future Cop: LAPD for life
it was even better in coop mode
I remeber demo on psx before i and my bro get full wersion. It have 2 min time limit fot first stage. It was full level but after 2 min it end. So me and my bro start training together to beat that 2 min. We make a plans strategies that make us like two men swat team. Each one whit diffrent objectives to acomplish, and we get so good that we not only beat that 2 min but we go under 1:40. Good times.
Wow! I've not heard of most of these! I feel guilty for not owning them or even hearing of them, they all look so much fun!
Started at 5:12 is my favorite PS1 game! The violent POKEMON of Jade cocoon!
bishi bashi special is ones of my favorit game in PS1 lol playing with sister and ofcourse all my friend xD
Some great games here that I'd completely forgotten about. Cheers
Eretzvaju(Evil Zone).. Had it on Japanese.. I Remember buying this game, it was a rainy day, Love the intro "Kiss in the dark"
Man what a list! I only like played 9 games from this video. Was gungauge a ps1 game? I was hoping to see it here. Now I wanna replay misadventures of tronbonne. Goodtimes
Indeed it was! In fact, Gungage is on this video: ruclips.net/video/Ci6T2CvgJcs/видео.html
THANK YOU Ive been looking for the misadventures of tron bonne!!
Threads of fate had a really catchy OST. Definitely one of my favorites games as a kid.
I only played few of them. I will try to play the others. Great List!
Silent Bomber is such a BANGER
Tail Concerto was too cute for it's own good. I miss a lot of these games. X_X
Team Buddies was one of the best multiplayer games ever made. I'd love to see a sequel or remake on modern consoles.
Oh man, I loved Eternal Eyes and Monster Seed too
Huh, I did play a fair share of those, though I guess I also didn't get a chance to play too many of the better known games, so I dunno how to feel about that. Could only look at 'em in the review magazines (which I still happen to have).
Still, good times, a lot of nostalgia. Thank you for the video.
Some more gems that were missing in the video:
Board Game Top Shop, Tales of Destiny 1 and II, Circuit Breakers, Irritating Stick, Juggernaut, Builder's Block (aka Landmaker), Roll Away (aka Kula World), Peak Performance, Uprising X, Elemental Gearbolt, Assault Rigs, Eliminator, Guardian's Crusade, Zanac X Zanac, Brahma Force, RC de Go!, and Project Horned Owl.
Excellent choices! And will most likely result in a Part 2 of this video! Thanks for the suggestions
20. get used to those 10 minutes saving times xD
28. why can't he use arms?
41. this one was amazing
44. and this one... WOW
Sheep Rider was just epic. And the soundtrack was even more epic!
nice list, some of them aren't gems but some of then are and I will be adding those to my collection :)
Wow big thanks to Gary and everyone in the comment suggesting additional hidden gems, will be trying lots of these, also not sure if they qualify as hidden gems but stars wars episode 1 the phantom menace was tough but great and Stuart Little 2 was just great :)
What an awesome video, brought back so many memories!
1:48 chaos break looks like it was placed in a metal gear solid world
Definitely Bishi Bashi Special, Gundam Battle Assault 1 & 2, Cyberbots, pepsiman, strider 2
I came on here just to hopefully find "the unholy war" which I remembered playing a lot with my sister on a demo. Had no idea of the title, and towards the end I really didn't expect it to show up, but at #95 it did and I was quite delighted 😁 now I'll find another video of it and surprise my sister with some serious nostalgic and long forgotten memories 🙌
Besides from that, I'm not familiar with most of these games, but personally liked "Ghost in a shell" Kingsley's adventure" and "Shipwrecks!" 👍
what software are you using looks nice
one that pretty much no one played gear dendo fighter, look it up guys, you won't regret it, also, akuji the heartless, a game that was sadly over shadowed by soul reaver (same creators), ps: galerians is one of the best games ever made, sadly extremely underrated, and pepsiman shouldn't be here, is probably the most recognized ps1 game ever, still played to these days, and one of the most requested games on gdq, pss: forgot other 2, kartia which is very similar to final fantasy tactis, is one of my favorite jrpgs, and bomberman trilogy including my fav racing game ever (no joke here) bomberman fantasy race
That one, Gear fighter dendoh, is it in English?
@@volcanickjoe08 i played it like 20 years ago, i don't remember well but i think it was in japanese, this game and also the anime never came to the west, i got this game pirated lol
@@NicolasSilvaVasault Don´t be ashamed, it was fairly common in those times.
Great hidden gems
Well... I really did only recognize about 5-6 of these out of 100... 😂
Evil Zone! I loved that game!
You missed Psychic Force 2 though
*hears intro noise*
*I SEE YOU’RE ALSO A CUSTOMER. ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH OUR PRODUCT?*
“........she’s.......very realistic. Thank you.”
Rageball was the shit, as well as The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
amazing list as always! thanks!
Bishi Bashi was quite popular in my country even some people was held local competitions for only this game lol
Great list. So many good games + many that look like I've got to give 'em a whirl!
*Bishi Bashi Special* might just be the greatest video game ever to play when you're getting drunk. :D Soo soo many night's it gave me & my friends joy when we were in our '20s.
I take it that you're American or something, since you featured *Kurushi* / *Intelligent Qube.* That game came on pretty much every single Demo disc that you got with your PlayStation over here in Europe, so for us it's anything but hidden. It's a gem alright though. IMO one of the greatest games on the system. Also *Team Buddies* was advertised like crazy over here.
*Sentinel Returns* looks like it could be a sequel to the old 8-bit game called Sentinel. That's really cool.
At least *Blaster Master - Blasting Again, Carnage Heart, Defcon 5, Nanotek Warrior, Nectaris: Military Madness* and *Panzer Bandit* got into my _TRY IMMEDIATELY!_ -list. I recently got a modded PS1 & a big stack of compatible CD-Rs. Fun times ahead; so thank you!
Excellent identification of "Sentinel Returns" - indeed it is a descendent of the old Geoff Crammond Beeb game (ported to, as you pointed out, many other 8-bit platforms). Sadly, it only has 512 levels, instead of the original's 10,000. I wouldn't say it's a sequel - it's essentially the same game, with the same mechanics. Just with much faster 3D and nicer texture work than the old 8-bits could handle. (Oh and a soundtrack composed by acclaimed horror film director John Carpenter). I spent many dozens of hours on this, yet so few people are aware it exists...
@@GaryRetroGamer Whoa. I like the original Sentinel a lot, but you 100% had me at John Carpenter! I'm just a couple films shy from having seen every full-length movie he's ever done, and consider him one of my very favourite filmmakers. He also does very awesome music indeed, so this is definitely something I have to experience ASAP.
@@GaryRetroGamer I'm glad I revisited this list a couple days ago - I'd missed couple pretty crucial ones the first time:
- *C12: Final Resistance* - What a fun shooter with some nice graphics. Pretty damn advanced for a PS1-game. Ended up playing it a couple hours, and for sure gonna go on playing it.
- *Terracon* - Described by many to be the best looking game on the PlayStation. Not sure if I'd go that far, but it's up there. Nice little action platformer. Played the tutorial, and got a feeling that it's gonna be a fun time.
...and last, but *DEFINITELY* not least; actually quite the opposite:
- *Darkstone* - *!!!!* I got SUPER hyped just seeing those couple seconds of video. A pretty much bona fide Diablo-style western action-RPG that I can play lying on my couch! I might have close to ten hours on the game clock already. So far up my alley that it's almost in another dimension! A rather large downside though, is that saving the game takes fucking *SIX BLOCKS* from your memory card. Makes even Gran Turismo 2 look pretty conservative. What an absolute hog! Totally worth it though.
I'm repeating myself; but seriously, thank you for making this video! Got it in my bookmarks now for future reference.
Excellent choices! C12 was indeed quite impressive - but ended up getting missed out on by many because it was so late the machine's life cycle. I wasn't that impressed with Terracon myself - but Darkstone was loads of fun - and fairly graphically impressive too. I am glad you are finding this video useful, because this sort of discovery is exactly why I make them - so thank you very much for the kind words. (If you ever do move onto other platforms, like the PS2 or the SNES - I have similar videos for those...)
Kings field was one of my favorites
what emulator used for this video? good video.
Nice list man
Ah i remember renting alot of these as a kid lol with my brothers and sisters. There was also this japanese game called top shop or something, it was like a monopoly game sorta
May I suggest:
Running High
Crime Killer
Omega Boost
I've played kingsley's adventure demo and man........that game was worth buying.
And mirco maniacs, silent bomber, speed punks.......that was the shit back then.
I still have gundam battle assault on ps1
Board Game Top Shop is my hidden gem suggestion
Nice list, reminded me of a few games I had forgotten and taught me about a few other great things. You still forgot Alundra tho
Alundra is a great game! But I wouldn't consider it an "underrated/hidden gem" type game - it's actually on several other "Top 100 PS1 game lists" on my channel, so I didn't think it was right to put it here.
Fair enough. Where I live, the ps1 game market was loaded with fighting, racing-like and soccer games. I had to dig deep to find anything that actually appealed to me. That's how I found, Musashi, Alundra, and Tail Concerto and NO ONE HEARD OF THESE. I had no one to discuss these with at the time :')
@@danieloliveira7650 Oh, that sucks. It was like that in the Xbox360/PS3 era - when all anyone ever played were war-based FPS games. Or today ... with PUBG/Fortnite :)
Bishi bashi is so much fun to play with pals..
I also play thread of fate its a good game
Did anyone else actually play Blast Chamber with 4 players and enjoy the heck out of it? Along these lines, Poy Poy could've been on this list.
Awesome channel!
Civilisation 2! Great fun.
PEPSIMAN WAS MY CHILDHOOD
Thank you for bringing this to my attention
The OST's... just amazing.👍
omg Rosco Mcqueen wow the nostalgia.
I'm a simple man. 8 see Gundam: Battle Assault, I click. God I miss that game. Back when Gundam games were GOOD. But also, where's Legend of Legaia?
To this day I still hold a grudge with Galerians for the back of the box stating the game had over 50 hours of gameplay. You can literally finish the game in under 5 hours.
Great Video, you have my thanks.
Apocalypse was my first ps game
I feel like Running Wild, Spider and Nightmare Creatures could have made this list.
Nº45 is my childhood...
i have been trying to remember the name of some of these titles for so long!
I need help remembering a game friends.
It was a 1 level demo, on the ps1. It was in a prison, and you controlled a guy from above, not nearly birds eye, but above. Prisoners attacked. But u lit them on fire via flamethrower. Darkly light game. Never been able to figure this out.
Thanks in advance.
+Dylan McCance Was it Loaded?
That's definitely what I described. But not what I remember :/. Any other ideas?
Hmm, okay.
Let's narrow it down a little; what year was it? Was it earlier in the PS1 lifecycle? (e.g. mid-90s) or later (late 90s)?
Also, where did you get the demodisc? Did it come from a magazine, or was it one of those freebies that came with the console?
Are you thinking of "The Suffering". Don't know if that's considered a hidden gem it ended up with a cult following.
Sorry I immediately realized I was thinking of ps2
Ps1 games are creative challenging and beautiful
7:36 totally forgot i used to own this game!! I always got my character too fat and then i lost the fights/died because of it and i could never figure out the eating system right :)
For some reason on PSX games,
the graphics are not good, but the sound quality is astounding,
Why didn't Sony balance that?
I remember the day I first got home to play on my ps1 I was 6 years old those were simpler times
I have Gundam Battle Assault 1 and 2. I also have Silent Bomber
Man the good old days of playing ps1 at rental shops.
Missing destrega, brave fencer musashiden and the grandstream saga
I love you for adding Sheep Raider. That game is the tits.
Tobal 2 looks like a tekken clone with those movements
Let's be real, some of these were just mobile games before mobile games.
There’s this game that should be a hidden gem but can’t remember the name but will describe. It felt like a Zelda clone and I remember a specific level where you went into your dogs dream, I wish I remembered more of the game and I’m just drawing a blank
Alundra
#56 kings field was the first dark souls in the 90s
Bust a groove!
@ 4:25 that was aggressive
No Brave Fencer Musashi, Toshinden 1, 2, or 3, or Cool Boarders?
Cyberbots: full metal madness, Gundam battle assault, kings field, sled storm
