It was so sad, the Czechs were liberated from fascism and fell under communism….the war in Europe only liberated Western Europe. The Eastern part was given to Russia, by the allies…….
American troops were at one point in Pilsen, just one and a half hours away from Prague while the Russians were still 3 weeks away from marching in and liberating the capital of Czechoslovakia. Stalin even said to the Americans: "Don't you dare liberating Czechoslovakia! They're ours to liberate!" It only makes sense, if you look at it from some sort of a Pan-Slavic point of view. Both Slovaks and Czechs are Slavs, as well as the Russians. But otherwise pre-war Czechoslovakia was a democratic state and we wanted none of that bolshevik nonsense. I'm not trying to detract anything from the achievements of the Russian army. They certainly liberated Czechoslovakia and died in the tens of thousands on Slovak and Czech soil. We owe them for sure, but their help was anything but altruistic. Winners always grab the spoils of war and extend their sphere of influence.
My great grandmother fled then Czechoslovakia by herself as child to America as they started burning books and forcing another language - she would be horrified to see what America is going through today- America keep your arms no matter what!

I love it
There's also a pretty similar movie to this one called "Rumbling in the mountains" (V horach duni) from 1946. I'm working on obtaining it.
I never knew anything about this part of the war.
Really good film
Salute to the brave people of Prague.
Mám tento film rád. Jistě jistě je tady cítit jistá politická agitace, ale já se zaměřuji na příběh. Podobně se dívám i na film Sokolovo.
At the end of the movie they are so happy to see the Soviet Red Army in Prague...They were not so happy to see them in 1968.
Spot on commentary jutka! Made me even laugh :D

To je hezkej film o tom jak jsme bránili svoji vlast a ke konci nás vysvobodí rusové 👏
Česko osvobodili Sověti (Rusové, Ukrajinci, Gruzínci atd.), Američani, Francouzi a Britové (zřejmě i Kanaďané).
