Yes this is a depressing movie….the majority of the American soldiers were of European descent, so some were Germans who had immigrated to America and Scandinavians, Dutch, Eastern Europeans, Brit’s etc. so really fighting some people on other side, just politics differed. In Korea, the South and North the exact same people. What a difference society can make. When I visited there we walked through a tunnel that was still open (for tourism) dug by North Koreans into the south, to attack or escape, who knows, well it had a low ceiling. We were told the North Korean men aren’t taller than 5’4” so tunnel had low ceiling. South Koreans have so much better food, and lots of protein, so are much taller. Kinda amazing since same people, same genetics, food makes all the difference.
This guy Lewis looks so much like a good friend of my son’s from a Christian family. I think they are of German decent. The whole family is into Christianity and does volunteer work with their church etc. they had 5;kids and the father lost his job, so they were struggling finacially, anyway he looks so much like him, very similar facial features.
So terrible for these young guys to be forced to kill each other, that young kid begging for his life. So awful. And to kill prisoners point blank, just so awful, when they’re totally defenseless, no excuse for it. Execution style. Really really ugly.

The captain, who would be about 28, is played by a 50-year old actor. Some war action scenes are quite wrong - the private searching for approaching enemy soldiers is standing totally uncovered in an open area. The plot is of course unrealistic, but full of suspense.
@@jon.p.Exactly! Had a much older cousin who went to Vietnam in the 60s , did 4 tours and when he came home, people didn’t recognize him him, even his own parents. I was just a kid then, but for some reason he and I bonded and spent time together, maybe because I was young and it helped him to get some sense of innocence/youth back. I don’t really know and don’t really speculate on it it, but I learned many things from him.
