Omar Abdullah is one of the highest profile political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir. He served as Chief Minister of the National Conference - Congress coalition in Jammu and Kashmir from 2009 to 2014. He was returned for Lok Sabha from Srinagar in 1998, 1999 and 2004 and thereafter for J&K Legislative Assembly in 2008 and 2014. After winning his second Parliamentary election in 1999, he served as Minister of State Commerce and External Affairs in Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's NDA Government. He is the grandson of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and the son of the former Chief Minister, Union Minister and MP Dr Farooq Abdullah. He is currently leading National Conference in the current Assembly elections which are the first being held in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In his 55-minute-long podcast with Ahmed Ali Fayyaz, Omar speaks about the challenges and prospects of the NC-Congress pre-poll alliance besides the unprecedented foray of several individuals and organisations of separatist history into the Indian democratic exercise.
