- The best defensive player in NFL history. Taylor changed offenses with his pass rush ability (150.5 total sacks in regular seasons and playoffs), freakish athletic abilities, and a motor that doesn't stop. L.T. is the last defensive player to win NFL MVP in 1986; was also an 8x All Pro, a 2x Super Bowl Champion, and a Hall of Famer.
Lawrence Taylor was a disruptive force as an outside linebacker and a freak of nature. He also was the most intimidating defensive player during his prime who played 13 seasons with the New York Giants. He is widely regarded as the best defensive player of his generation, and is often considered to be the greatest defensive player of all time. Salute to #56 Lawrence Taylor!!!
I’ve watched football for over 40 years. I’ve never seen anyone disrupt everything a team threw at him, like LT
He was a complete package as a hard-hitting son of a gun
Love LT. Grew up watching him and it was epic football.
Greatest defensive player to ever play
People say that football and basketball players are more athletic now. I have yet to see a football or Basketball player more athletic than LT and MJ respectively.
It’s all about perspective. The best athletes of older eras look better and have better stats bc they are facing worse competition. In the 50s and 60s, there were guys like wilt and Jim brown. They look like actual gods bc the players they’re facing are plumbers and firemen. LT and MJ were facing players, not plumbers, they were just facing weaker players than today. Guys who couldn’t hang today. The ceiling of human achievement stays the same. In actuality, guys like wilt, mj, and Giannis are all on similar levels of athleticism. Same with guys like Jim brown, LT, and Aaron Donald. What keeps raising is the floor. Football and basketball players ARE more athletic now. U just didn’t include two key words that makes that statement make sense. On average. They are more athletic on average. And that is what everyone is saying. So next time u try to make weird comparisons across eras that make no sense, don’t compare the ceiling. Don’t compare the goats. Compare the floor. Compare the bench guys, the 4th stringers. It will tell u everything u need to know.
Lebron James is easily more athletic than mj could’ve ever hoped to be you trippin😂 I’d also argue Russell Westbrook prime was twice as athletic as Jordan was
Basketball might not be different but these dudes on the football field are made in a lab now. Would love to see LT rush mahomes, what a game that would be
@@nelscarlson5052 Today’s players eat better and video has helped tremendously. LT was blowing past players that no doubt were on Steroids. Plus don’t discount that youth football enrollment is why down compared to 40 yrs ago with some high schools struggling to field teams so the prospect pool is way down.
@@sandwichsquad74 cocaine is a helluva drug
best nfl player of all time regardless of position. grew up watching this dude play.incredible.
Reggie White is the G.O.A.T
Emmitt Smith is the GOAT
Amen. Me too. No one was better. Either side of the line. Greatest.
The NFL recently went over game films from all eras, and they stated that Lawrence Taylor,NOT Ray Lewis,is the NFLs All Time leading tackler among All defenders ever.
Lawrence Taylor, NFL Hall of Famer, respect 💪.
Bring back childhood memories watching LT play
I’m a die hard Eagles fan. And even i have to admit that LT is the goat.
i am a cowboys fan and I admit the same
Giant fan here Reggie was 1a to LT
Greatest most intimidating football player ever 🏈🔥
There is no doubt. Lawrence Taylor is the greatest defensive player of all time. There’s no one comparable. He changed offensive game planning. And defensively there was never a player of his size, speed and motor like him. Like Michael Jordan the absolute best there is
It was a joy watching him play every Sunday as a Giant fan. It was like watching a comic book superhero with incredible powers that made him far superior to anyone else on the field. A once in a lifetime player. Interesting that during an interview, he stated that he believes that Joe Montana was a much better QB than Brady, and that he believes that Brady would not have had a "comfortable" game if he were to go against him...and I believe him.
If he played in todays NFL he would get flagged every time
Well, when the NBA gets a Wilt, or Shaq, they change the rules instead of telling the other teams to go find your own.
Facts it’s like all he did was clean hits
Lot of QBs would be retired
No player had an impact on the game, not even Tom Brady, like Lawrence Taylor did. He sacked quarterbacks with one hand and laid waste to All-Pro linemen. The 49ers used to put a guard in the backfield in an attempt to slow him down. LT was so dominant that no one could stop him. We will probably never see the likes of him again.
I'm 37 years old going on 38 I swear he' s the only football player ever that I never watch but I can make the argument that he can be the greatest football player ever
I turned 39 on 6/14/22. As a Giants fan getting to watch this guy every week in NYC was an absolute priviledge. I love Aaron Donald, but he still is not...THIS
I'm an old timer. The only defensive players equal to him EVER are Ronnie Lott and Mean Joe Greene. Perhaps Ray Lewis if you want to bother with the modern game.
@aaropajari7058 so let me ask you a question you actually watched him on tv I didn't I saw highlights on RUclips in your opinion why do so many people put him above every nfl great defensive he was that good? I have watched every single list whether is on Twitter or Instagram or even Facebook the nfl defensive player Him what made him so special because I watched derrick thomas he's my Lawrence taylor
@@jimmycharlotin7050 I agree with your excellent post. To answer it was his impossible combination of speed, agility, moves, and power. And above all his intensity and passion. He could overpower a lineman or hurdle over them.
Derrick Thomas was amazing too. Perhaps he would have been bigger if he played on a better defense and went to the Superbowl.
@aaropajari7058 so based on what you're telling is there a possibility he can be considered as perhaps the best football player to ever played the game?
Best linebacker ever,in NFL history.
Best football player ever
Who is here in August of 2024? Respect
The way he quickly swung that arm downward during a sack was horrifying.
i fought a kid on my high school football team the day before twoadays started my junior year because i wanted number 56.. i got it too
Lawrence Taylor would have a difficult time playing in this day and age. It is too tame these days. He was a brilliant football player. Hall of Fame great!!! The NFL these days is tame compared to the old days & ways!!!!!!
Imagine being the qb and not seeing him coming wow
From ST man cave and 50+ years of being a Redskins Fan. I feared him -I hated him but most of all! I Love him. Top 10 greatest of all of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hands down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im an eagles fan...but LT was the best to ever suit up.....
@clotshots9072 Fellow Cowboys old timer. You got that all right. He ended games before they started.
If Tom Brady played in this era he would’ve been retired 10 years ago
Tom's pretty tough imo.
@@dukewilson14 he’s the GOAT no doubt, but the rules have changed so much over the years to protect the offensive players especially the QBs. That’s why he’s 45 years old and still playing
@@dukewilson14 Bradys sweet, lol...
We have debates at work. Any player ever. Your first pick would be.. anyone over 40 mostly says LT. You can get a game manager for quarterback. You can't get another LT
1st pick LT on the outside pick 2 is Lambert in the middle. That's some major fear factor on the other side of the ball
The greatest football player of all time!
everybody that followed excelled because of the way this man played the game. he changed football, provided an actual example of pure defensive aggressiveness that would dominate the 80's.
Sadly he couldn't play today.
Just imagine a Defence with LT and Mean Joe Greene!!! Gosh!!!
Joe had Lambert. LT was faster/more athletic but otherwise they are very similar. Lambert was just as feared, mean, nasty and smart
#1 Guy in My Book , And I'm an Eagles Fan
one ☝️ thing about LT he was a clean 🧽 player he didn’t play dirty
LT seems look a good guy. Some players are dirty wished they were banned.
yeah, because he sold his soul to the devil to play like this. There is no way any human could drink and do lines of blow and then walk out onto the field invincible. I call him the Demon! Love LT!
The great ones dont need to.
I’m a die hard Cowboys fan LT was the best defensive player I have seen. Never took a play off played from opening whistle until the end.
Imagine a big ass craxk head chasing you down like that 😅
Not sure why an offense would line up knowing LT was just a few feet away and he wasn’t going to stop. I’d call in sick!!
Micah Parsons - very good. But it's watching a completely different level here and it's obvious.
Great player for sure, but unfortunately half those sacks in todays NFL would be 15 yard penalties , followed by a hefty fine! The NFL game today is vastly different from the great game it used to be! Football was meant to be, NOT a "contact" sport, but a "collision"sport!! Football was meant to be played violently!! LT played the game as it should be! Todays NFL is a cake walk compared to years before Roger Goodell dumbed the game down!!!
Agreed.
How are you faulting him for playing the game the way it was supposed to be played then
@@Addsiqishrb Im not faulting him at all, just the opposite! I am saying what a great player he was, he played the game as it should be played, violently!! Unfortunately todays NFL is and has been " pussified", and the game today is not played "violently", likes it was and is supposed to be played!
Yea its so annoying, watching a flag be thrown if the DE breathes too hard on the QB😂So soft nowadays
I was thinking the same thing
LT Would be Doing 50 to life in todays NFL ...
"The guy had a motor that didn't stop" that's why he's the greatest of all time, his desire. That's what defense is, it's not all about technique or x's and o's, it's all about wanting to go out and fucking ruin people. Destroying the dreams and lives of grown men. Having grown men literally scared to death. That's what playing defense is all about. It's not about just winning, it's about getting back out there and kicking your fucking ass. Guys can have the same technique, be physical specimens like AD but no one wanted to fuck shit up more than Lawrence Taylor. It's just that simple, no will be more raw than him so there will be no one better than him. You don't just play defense, you have a desire to destroy the will of every man until nothing is left to conquer. And then you go to sleep, wake up and do it again like it never happened before.
New millennials try to forget about the founding fathers’ today players hit hard as ever but the game became softer than ever before’ had take a look at L.T. The icon I see he at the Monday night game tonight vs Seahawks
He's one of those players that truly changed the game. Washington changed their offense just so they could protect their qb from him. It didn't work though
Really???? Taylor played from 1981 to 1993. In that same span of time, Washington WON THREE SUPERBOWLS.
@@colderbeer i didn't say they didn't win games fool. My point was is that they didn't stop him
The Jim Brown of Defense…
Imagine being a quarterback breaking out of the pocket in a scramble. You going full speed with confidence and suddenly you're being hit from behind by something going 30% faster than you are. You are hit so hard that you are lifted off the ground. It's kind of like being hit from behind by a Grizzly bear.
Greatest
If sacks had been counted as a stat his whole career, he'd be closer to 200. He is the GOAT.
GREATEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER EVER!!! If we could just get Kayvon to be that difference maker.
Greatest tecmo bowl player ever too!
I think that title belongs to Bo Jackson.
@@dukewilson14 haha, maybe so
4:28 I hit my head on the ceiling as I jumped out of my chair when that happened.
Never mess up
Every time we see Joe Jacoby on RUclips... yup, there's Lawrence Taylor.
As far as hardest hitters, my Rushmore is LT, Reggie White, Ray Lewis, and Dick Buktus, that’s pure power there!!!!
Back before football player wore dresses
Lawrence Taylor is the best between ray lewis and Lawrence Taylor I would choose Lawrence Taylor but, they are both monsters!
I use to pick LT on defense playing Techmobowl on Nintendo and you could sack the QB every play with ease just like he did in real life😂😂😂
LT did say the one thing about what hates about today's NFL besides the rules favoring the offensive side of the ball and that is the QB's of today no longer fear the Defensive Backs and if he were to play in today's NFL he would found a way around the rules to kill the QB oh and ain't no way Tom Brady would've played into his 40's I would've retired him myself.
🐐
Just imagine prime LT playing today with the new nfl every qb would be IR from one good blind side to were there going to D3 walks ons
Micah is Micah no comparison both LT and Micah are dominant… stat wise Micah is looking better, however it’s different times, LT was VICIOUS….
Best defense player in the history of the NFL not even close.
@@awiskey10 yup
Before refs called roughing the passer every play
Her was coked up 90% of his career... And they really didn't test for steroids back then.
Awe man... no Joe Theisman footage?
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
The only defensive player to get the MVP is nuts in itself
Alan Page also won MVP in 1971 at defensive tackle.
Imagine what a waste LT would be in today's NFL. More than half those hits would probably be 15 yard penalties.
Yeah he would get fined more than James Harrison did lol.
If LT got a hand on you, you were going down. There was no escape!😁
There's only one LT gmen forever 56
Don’t drop me, I’m worth a million dollars
Roquan smith plays like lt
Jesus Christ loves you all ❤️
Yes Lawrence Taylor is the greatest
THE DEMON!
It was the crack lol
Coked up version!
Gillette award lol
The only thing LT like crushing more than quarterbacks were lines of blow
When are people going to let that shit go...he had a phase like so many gladiators and athletes in the 80s hes fucking 64 now.
Today's politicians are more perverse but hardly anyone says anything
@@StudiofortheSoul Exactly. It's no good having that but he wasnt a public person preaching righteousness and controlling how others live.
Crack power!! Lol
He was doing this while smoking crack
LT Best Linebacker to Ever Wear the Giants BLUE. LT Best Linebacker Ever in All the NFL and All the Greats LT is Tops.GO BIG BLUE
How young Micah looking this season so far lol
the only guy that can make Belicheck smile everytime somebody ask about LT to Bill
CRACK!
''not applicable'' lol
It really is super important to remember that 80% of the league in LT's time were guys who didnt even train properly or have regimented schedules. They drank and smoked and didnt think twice about health, the receivers weren't fast the tight ends weren't big, hell even the average OFFENSIVE LINEMAN was like 260lbs so wtf??? most of the league was legitimately trash ao you throw in a slightly above average athlete with psychopathic tendencies then he will stand out.. despite LT not actually being worthy of his own ENTIRELY MADE UP LEGACY
I definitely think LT lives up to his legacy. You don't win NFL MVP as a defensive player by accident. 8x First Team All Pro and 3x DPOY; he would be great in any era. I can't say with 100% certainty that he's the best defensive player ever, but he's on the short list.
@@dukewilson14 he was high on cocaine and crack...during the games. Nothing about him is special aside from the fact that he has raped women and children (plural), failed to maintain social or romantic relationships, abused drugs and law enforcement for decades, burned professional and personal bridges, and yet still somehow has people's respect...that's pretty special.
@jakubjungle656 he's no role model off the field I 100% agree with, on the field he is a special player for sure.
Too bad he had a cocaine problem.
Super high on coke.
LT...I'm not sure if he reads the comments or watches the videos...(maybe not). My kid who is now 16 plays soccer in Italy for a very well known team in italy. I introduced him to LT videos as a motivator. LT wasn't 💯 he was a 1000% MF!!!
Ray Lewis was HS compared to LT
Cocaine is a hell of a drug!
