To those who have never seen and worn a Fifty Fathoms: These are watches that need to be seen to be believed. The finishing on them is simply spectacular.
The fifty fathoms not the bathyscaphe, I've been downsizing my watches and trying to avoid 45mm watches. Really over 42 even. It's a cool watch but so many other things like better. Got a pre moon speedmaster pro with 220 bezel shortly after. So awesome.
I’ve had my fifty fathoms about a month now and it makes a change from all the subs, sea dwellers and deep seas I’ve had in the past. The lume is crazy with the bezel glowing with the dial. Also nice to have something different when ever other guy at the supermarket is wearing a sub.
PopBubbleWrappable I’ve lived in London and currently in Los Angeles. I saw more variation in London. LA is almost exclusively Apple Watch or Rolex Subs. It’s very dull.

My beloved fifty fathoms! ❤️ You should show how powerful is the luminescence! It is a lighthouse in the darkness! Something different from a Submarine and with a legacy that is incomparable.
Not sure. Sub is a really good watch but unfortunately Rolex is victim of its own fame. Wearing Rolex means first question is usually "is it real one"? And it's too obvious watch, watch for somebody who has money but no finesse. FF is too big and chunky but Bathyscaphe, that is something that fits the bill just nicely. They should work on clasp, though. Toolfree fine adjustment and such things, they should be common even on bracelets with butterfly clasps. Look what Overseas and new Santos did , brilliant.
1952 Jean Jacques Fiechter (Blancpain) was a SCUBA enthusiast befriended with René Paul Jeanneret (Rolex) at the Cannes dive club - France. That's how the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms came first (1952) directly followed by the Rolex Submariner (1953)... although Panerai had the Radiomir in 1941...

I have to say that the build quality and finish of these watches is better than those of Rolex....really high end.....well worth a look. The grey ceramic contrasting with the blue dial, bezel and nato strap looks awesome!!

I've always liked the look of the tribute to milspec version, except maybe that the indices are obviously painted on as opposed to applied (guess this is more historically accurate). I think the bezel really sets it apart, though it ironically looks like it needs to be babied more than a ceramic bezel. Could be wrong. Between the impeccable finishing, display caseback, and the fact that one probably won't see it as often as a sub, it definitely gets my vote.
Nearing perfection. Now all we need is a bracelet and/or a folding clasp for this nylon strap (and why not bring back the rubber while at it?) which still kinda looks like lower level without it.
I have both the 45mm Fifty Fathoms classic (non-milspec) and the Bathyscaphe on my want list. And given the money I would actually buy both. That might sound completely mad. But the classic and Bathyscaphe look so completely different. The Bathyscaphe I would get is the one featured; the base model steel with Meteor Grey sunburst dial. I like the Fifty Fathoms, I really do. But that date drives me insane. And, unless I’m mistaken, they don’t do a no date version. It just sticks out to me as being an afterthought. I’m a no date guy as is, but the slanted 4:30 date is one of implementations I really don’t like.
I too do not like dates. However, the choice to put it at the 4:30 position with white digits on a dark background is a good one. This way it practically disappears and does not spoil the clean aesthetic half as much as it would have done if placed at 3, 6 or 9 thereby replacing one of the hour markers. Make no mistake, it would have been better with no date. But with a date, they've done well to implement it in such a low impact way.
meson1 I respect your opinion on the subject, but the decision to slant the date makes it look ridiculous. There are a few Bell & Ross watches that pull off a 4:30 date in a much cleaner way. I still wouldn’t put it there (I prefer 6 o’clock, if there has to be a date), but for a watch that costs this much, they could have taken a bit more care in how they placed it.
Personally think 3-5k extra are not that much if you can spend 9 on BP anyway - and the TR900 is considered super safe from the radioactive lume (2,3years). Without a doubt this does not come close to it.

Lol, dude, go do some research before you make such comment. It’s embarrassing. Longines and Rolex created such watches 15 years before fifty fathoms. They were merely copying the design. Please read up on Rolex Zerographe. fifty fathoms is the real homage to Rolex.
@@Touyoujin DUDE! Rolex produced the first waterproof watch ( no rotating bezel ) with their patent of the screw down crown in 1926. Fifty Fathoms 1953. Rolex Submariner 1954. Don't be so sensitive Danny, it's only watches! ( By the way, what did I say the Submariner was a homage TO? )
Burkhold St. Rudderberg Dude, Longines and Rolex both created watches with bezels in 1930s. To be more precise Rolex had their watches with bezels in 1937 named Rolex Zerographe. Rolex also assisted Panerai with their watch production to Royal Italian Navy in 1930s too, which served as professional diving watches. FF just merely made it to the market first as diving watch by stealing design of others coupled with some marketing tricks. Burkhold, It’s called getting your facts right with some proper read instead of ignorantly making silly comment.
Burkhold St. Rudderberg Also Rolex turn-O-graph ref. 6202 was released in 1953, a year before the release of Rolex submariner in 1954. Rolex submariner is the predecessor to Rolex turn-O-graph for your information.
Why do watch makers want to spoil symmetry of the watch face with a date?, at least the rolex sub comes in 114060. Dare i say, without the date window it would look more beautiful than the sub.
They are king. Blancpain at their prices is shit! I had a fifty fathoms. Sold it for 8k bought it for 8750. Didn’t like it. In fact the fifty fathoms Is like an omega planet ocean... look at them side by side
that's tough because it depends what you're looking for. In terms of classic design and bang-for-buck, I would say (no order): PP, ALS, AP, Rolex, Omega, JLC, Seiko/GS (i'd throw in a couple of independents there like Journe, Kari, LF but this highly depends on taste. Well, all of this is anyway.). Note that all these brands are still luxury so varying degrees of pricey.
Love and respect the brand, but I still dislike the rounded bezel insert. Man so close aesthetically, I want the old model with flat bezel insert, no moisture indicator with a high double dome sapphire crystal. Oh I would actually have to seriously consider it.
Hi there, thanks for the review ! As always, an unconventional review in a "storytelling" format !.. would you be able to do one just on bathy ? Tq in advance ! Im really looking forward to pull the trigger !
One reason alone keeps me from buying this watch, the absurd location of the date. Just get rid of it altogether or put it at 6 o'clock. These are also way over priced.
Anyone who knows anything about watches knows that Blancpain is not Blancpain, SHM (now Swatch) bought the company took over all it's patents and closed it down, until the 1980s when they sold the name to a new watch company who they then later bought (again). So Blancpain 1735 is actually more like Blacpain 1980. PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH !!!!

Oris knows how it's done.
The hours & minutes hands are hard to differentiate.. Both have almost same design & lenth. No wonder the Submariner took pole position.
They will be perfect without the date window
You can’t see a watch video without the mention of Rolex
They are king. Blancpain at their prices is shit! I had a fifty fathoms. Sold it for 8k bought it for 8750. Didn’t like it. In fact the fifty fathoms
Is like an omega planet ocean... look at them side by side
ripperx444 Fortunately you didn’t lose too much selling your FF.
Eye Heart Sushi yes that’s a good thing.
In your opinion what are the Top 10 watch makers curently ?
that's tough because it depends what you're looking for.
It's a good watch...very good...I like it a lot...
Not a very smooth movement for the price. Still my fav watch though
I just don’t understand why the paint on watch hands is often so uneven at the edges, even on high end luxury watches.
This looks like it is 50mm in comparing with the FF
The Bathyscaphe looks pretty cheap, and not to mention plain and boring, in my opinion but I do appreciate dive watches with a clear caseback
Not fond of the hands in particular
His & Hers 😊
