→ Who are we?
Hey there! We are Greg and Hillary - a husband and wife team that loves traveling, going on adventures, and helping others do the same! Although we love traveling, at this point in time, we still have full time 9-5 jobs in Dallas, Texas.
In August of 2016, we packed up our things, Greg quit his job, and we moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!
Hillary is working remotely for her CPA firm and Greg is working on this site full time.
We view ourselves as fairly ordinary people, complete with an ordinary income, ordinary jobs, and (unfortunately) an ordinary amount of student loan debt (thanks UNT!).
I know what you are thinking, “Aren’t travel blogs supposed to be written by hippies that don’t have jobs and live in hostels?!” Well don’t you worry, we are working on making that happen! Although we hope to become full time travelers in the next 1-2 years, this site is not necessarily aimed at people that want to travel full time.
Our hope is not that you quit your job and become a long haired, bearded, Volkswagen van driving hippy. Instead, our hope is that after reading our stories you are more inspired to live a more fulfilling life from 5pm-9am!
Why such the emphasis on how ordinary we are? Although we love reading travel blogs, it is easy to feel disconnected from the writers at times. It seems as though they are leading such extraordinary lives that they are somehow doing something that is unreachable to the “average” person.
We are here to prove that wrong. We are here to tell you that even if you work a full-time job and only get two weeks of vacation each year-you still have the power to design an adventurous life for yourself. Afterall, that is exactly where we started before leaving it all behind to live la vida loca!
After having several caffeine induced conversations about how people should travel more and shift their priorities in a way that will lead to a more fulfilling life, we decided to share our
stories with you.
Our purpose in creating Kinetic Kennons is to share our stories of travels, adventures, and funny mishaps and to inspire others to design a life full of exploration. Throughout this site you will find posts about how to go on a cheap weekend trip, funny stories such as the time Hillary forgot to update her passport before an international trip, and inspirational rants on why you should lead a more adventurous life!

If you come to Sonora one Day, you should try real flour tortillas, machaca and our roasts, in Sonora we don't use corn as much as you can see in south

I remember one time I was starving and it was very late at night. I decided to stop at the Oxxo near my house( I used to live in Monterrey, Mexico) to buy a snack. I was going to buy a hotdog but when I opened the tomato/onion/jalapeño containers I found a cucaracha. That was gross and immediately my hunger magically disappeared. Lol. Anyway, I decided to share my experience with you guys. BTW great video as usual. Hope Hilary don't get sick. Take care guys.

las galletas marías las comemos tradicionalmente con café lechero, agarra 3 a 6 galletas en tu mano, sumérgelas en el café lechero para que se mojen y se pongan blanditas y cómetelas así blanditas verás que el sabor es mucho mejor

You can do a pie crust with the Maria cookies, very common in México, crush them and mix them with melted butter and there you go.

I remember those weenie dogs (not the hotdog), the skin is reddish, and in my opinion have much more flavor than the ones here in the States. I used to eat them by themselves.

Oh god I remember those my gramps used to buy them for me and my brother when we were kids back In Mexico, I haven't had them in a long time. I miss eating them lol

My favorite nachos are the ones you buy in Cinepolis but I'm not sure if the taste is just better because I'm watching a movie while eating them. And I do like the Oxxo hotdogs but I prefer to prepare them there instead of waiting at home when the sausage is cold. Mayo, ketchup, onion, tomato and jalapeños are the usual stuff you add here in Mexico but every state may have other ingredients like roasted pinneaple, oaxaca cheese, caramelizad onions, ham, chipotle and mayo sauce or chipotle and bean sauce, pickles, etc. They are usually sold with bacon in hot dot stands.
We have a Cinepolis here in PV-and I LOVE nachos! The hot dog was actually pretty good too!
Ahhh naa brotha! Never buy food from OXXO is like buying food from a downgraded corner store in TX! Haha Stick with "Las Güeras" or other food places you been to lately the food looks delicious and fresh! ✌️

The only thing we get at OXXO is the Magnum Ice Cream bars, I love the Alemendros ones, soooo yummy. My guess for the total of all of your treats is $132 pesos.

The only thing I get from oxxo its cookies, drinks,chips,and coffee. Oh and the mozzarella sticks but I am from Monterrey and we do have seven elevens everywhere.

I remember going to oxxo when I was 16yrs old back in 2005. u can buy alcohol at all hours at night. I loved Mexico. went to cancun then Merida Yucatan to pick up my grandmother.

I could never see myself living in Mexico. My parents always take me to where they grew up and it’s so not appealing to me. You guys are doing great though, and by the looks of it you guys are really enjoying it.

Greg, have you ever been in a 7-11? Just asking bcs you seemed a little confused when you came to the nacho sauce machine and the chips in the plastic containers. We have the same kind of thing in the 7-11's in the states.
I have, but I stayed away from the Nacho machine haha.

We should've known. We could've warned you. Some OXXO foods are really bad, haha! You should try some street bacon-wrapped hot dogs. [In Veracruz] They're prepared with tons of De Hebra cheese, chorizo sausage, jalapeño and more!
Oh-we totally knew what we were getting ourselves into! We had no expectations of any of that food tasting good. The bacon-wrapped dogs though, that sounds amazing!
Sorry Greg, but the food you bought it's not usual for a common Mexican, you know, if we can buy so many good stuff in the street (quesadillas, sopes, gorditas, tostadas, tortas, tacos, etc. That is made just for EMERGENCY CASES). My dad wants to eat at OXXO when he is in PV. I do not see the point, you can get better food for just a little bit more. If you want something fast and cheap try a small Mex, cafe like the one across the side street from the block that the Hacienda de Centro is on. Much better food and you have a table on the street. The Mex bakerys are a good choice like the one that is across the street from Freddies Tucan.
He wants to eat there? haha. We didn't go there expecting to have good food. It was to be funny haha.

Hi again!!! Oxxo is like the very last option in anyone´s list for eating lunch, it´s ok if you buy snacks, actually there is where I buy beer and snacks, the coffee specially the one from the bending machines is quite good, but other than that yikes,,, hahaha

Oxxo's food is the equivalent of having gas station food in the States. Never do it again. With that said I love your vlog. I am living the exact opposite experience. Mexican from Mexico City who just moved to Oceanside California. I feel the exact same way as you in a new place and I also miss my hometown a lot!
We knew we were setting ourselves up for a stomach ache there lol. How do you like California compared to CDMX? I bet they are so different. I have never been to Cali but we have spent a few days in CDMX and we loved it!

I frequent a little bit the hot dogs of the oxxo, its a guilty pleasure for me, but i do know that with those 15 pesos you could buy something better and healthier.
La "Guera" is right about how to say pesos. Jaja. I like OXXO when I go there and buy all types of products, like Coca Light, Yoplait Natural yogurt with granola, Tía Rosa products, cigarettes, beer, potato chips, coffee. I personally never tried hot dogs there, but I have tried Nachos. Of curse OXXO are more expensive than Mega, Wal Mart etc.
Hillary loved those Nachos haha so many people thought she was crazy for that but I am glad somebody else agrees with her!

no its different than the mazapan. Its called Duvalin it comes in a little plastic box. its very popular and delicious.

When we were in Japan for 3 years, all we saw were 7 Elevens in every corner! Definitely equivalent to Oxxo in Mexico. I would much rather eat from Oxxo than Japan's 7 Elevens though. At least I'd know what I was eating lol

At Oxxo you can buy 2 hot dogs for 1 dollar, it is evident that the quality is poor

When I go and visit I love to oxxo for bottled water but I've never tasted the food there I think that's gross I stay away from hot dogs from Mexico They're not like the ones in the states
We usually just buy drinks and snacks from Oxxo, but thought it would be fun to try dinner one time :)
