Minecraft Elegance: Cheap Sheep Wool Farm (Java 1.16.4-1.20)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 июн 2024
- An exceptionally inexpensive wool farm that uses a redstone torch burnout clock as a BUD to shear up to 12 sheep at a time. I believe this farm works in Java 1.16.4+. For versions earlier than 1.19, refer to the Note below at 6:50.

NOTES
1:10 Mob griefing needs to be set to true for sheep to convert grass to dirt.
1:36 If desired, you can load 8 sheep in each chamber for a total of 16 sheep, allowing for one sheep of each color to be represented in the farm. Be sure to dye the sheep before loading. Also consider the 18- or 24-sheep versions of the farm, screenshots linked below.
2:50 A perfect layout of grass blocks naturally spreading onto the dirt under a trapped sheep will let the sheep produce about 50 wool/hr (600 wool/hr for 12 sheep). This farm is about 42 wool/hr/sheep (500 wool/hr for 12 sheep).
6:30 Water on top of grass blocks will convert the grass to dirt, so a layer of transparent blocks is needed to protect the grass.
6:50 Prior to 1.19, you can just place water against the leaves, as they cannot be waterlogged.
7:51 The rates assume that the farm is loaded and the player is within random tick range, so that the grass can spread.
Lightning strikes can burn leaves and kill sheep, so place a lightning rod a safe distance away from the farm.
Consider surrounding the farm with fences or wall blocks to prevent endermen from moving dirt/grass blocks.
8:01 The theoretical maximum rate of wool farms is about 70 wool/hr/sheep, limited by the rate at which sheep are willing to eat grass.
8:26 The daylight sensor intermittently changes the power level of the redstone wire across the day, which updates up to 2 blocks away, triggering the burnout clock so that it can shear the sheep more often. This increases the rates of the farm by 11% (555 wool/hr). Constantly clocking the dispensers will increase rates by about 16% (580 wool/hr), at the expense of some more redstone components, a lot of noise, and a bit more lag.
8:41 Some viewers have commented that the pistons could be placed in a row, relying on QC to power them. This works, but it's typically preferred to break the sugarcane or bamboo at the same level that it is detected so that items don't fall on the extended piston, which can scatter the drops so that they are more difficult to pick up.
18-SHEEP VERSION (705 wool/hr):

24-SHEEP VERSION (930 wool/hr): www.mediafire.com/view/36h2fs...
Load the dispensers as you build the farm. The upper dispenser can be refilled by digging down from the collection chamber. The lower dispensers can be refilled by tunneling underground. - Игры
Innovation in fields like sheep farms are rather rare but Ian somehow manages to do it.
Just like his sheep, Ian is out standing in his field
tbh at the point where you need to farm wool this way, you probably got more than enough materials to build the common design
@@btdchantity What I like is that it shows the potential for a lot of very simple designs (torch burnout clocks are hardly new but always good to get some inspiration). Good way to do BUD without observers!
@@ToppyTree lmfaooooo
@@EndingCredits Observers are SUDs not BUDs :P
Who would have thought there was any room left to improve sheep farm design. You've done it again! Keep em coming.
God, your videos/tutorials of fresh air. Simple, useful, and helpful and doesn't waste any of our time.
Came here to say the exact same thing.
Are a breath of fresh air*
Ian's design always the best. No wonder lot of hermits also using ian's design. It's simple and beginner friendly in terms of 'if you just start your survival world' friendly. Thank you for the superb design! I still use ian's iron farm even in my 2 years old survival world :D
true but like it feels more satisfying building farms as this one as they use minecraft mechanics brillaintly, even though I can build anything I want in my 1+ year old world I still choose Ian’s farms over other ones.
Only exception I suppose is when I need farms he hasn’t made yet.
i wish he would also make endgame optimised designs
@@YounesLayachi Isn't make gardian exp farm , quite end game ? The only 4 farm that can give more exp are , ravager farm ( wich can be maxed out by sorting them in powerfull stacking raid farms ) wither farms ( which isn't efficient except if you build it next to a wither skeleton farm ( killed by your wolfs ) and automatic gold& bartering farm ( for renewable soul sand ) running at the same time as you kill bench of withers automaticaly created by complex redstone contraption .
Also old dragon farm or massive furnace xp farms could give you more xp , but the change of version , or the lagg for furnace xp farm is simply not worth it ...
So gardian xp farm is the best farm one one could reasonnably build for late game , in order to avoid the crappy less efficient endermen farm .
@@gerardmatthieu907 guardian farm is early game. It is easy to setup, and does not require any resources or significant building.
Enderman farm is an obsolete remnant of old Minecraft that people are obsessed with because they watched their favourite RUclipsrs build an ender ender 10 years ago.
There's 0 reason to build one today, neither in early game nor in late game.
Yes, the guardian farm is better than the enderman farm, but you'll agree that the enderman farm is trash and closer to endgame that the guardian farm.
Just because the guardian farm gives better results does not make it more endgame.
Endgame means : what is the best farm you can build with near unlimited resources and skill ? Something that cannot be improved. The last farm of its kind you build in your world.
@@YounesLayachi prolly a stacking raid farm tbh like there isnt much way to get a faster raid farm than that.
With how long burnout clocks have been known for, kind of amazing that it took this long for a sugarcane farm to use them
When your designs are so good that a new kind of bamboo farm is just tacked on the end...
Not needing comparators for simple farms is a real game changer, honestly on par with the "first night iron farm"
0:13 : "this farm is really absurdly sheep" I see what you did there

I have to say, I really like your style. None of this HEY HEY HEY WHAT'S UP GUYS stuff, just "here's how to build this". Very refreshing.
What a great tutorial!
This is such a good guide, I'm watching a vtuber named Fauna building it inside a giant tree that's several hundred blocks tall and wide. She needs a lot of wool for the canopy
yo same
Konfauna!
Ole the only guy taking the time to explain the sudden rush of comments 😆
Konfauna!
See, I would have never known sheep can eat grass through redstone. These little interactions are what keep the game interesting for me.
I really appreciate that you explain the mechanics before building the farm. Like if the farm breaks, the information provided can assist in troubleshooting or build a new subtype of farm. I hope this kind of explanation help new players instead of them complain the farm not working while curse and swear.
Definitely. These designs are elegant and in a way simple, but I always seem to mess up something when building them. The thing is though that I learn advanced stuff by figuring out what I did wrong. I messed up undid some trap doors to redye sheep (I don't think there's a way to redo the middle 2 on each side without it) so I thought I'd make my own design where I could redye all the sheep since I was richer and could afford more dispensers and use a few observers. It works pretty well with all the sheep in a row and a dispenser for each, but my water collection isn't perfect, and I had to make it 3 wide to because the wool likes to go a little sideways sometimes. Just rewatching this video I think maybe making my top walls two blocks tall would fix it.
I wish all RUclips videos were like this, no click bait, no messing around just straight to the point. Great farm.
Spent some hours looking for over-complicated wool farm designs yesterday for our server and this is just the perfect video at the perfect moment. What an amazing use of the game's mechanics.
And I was trying to design one
Edit: because of lack of creativity I couldn't came up with anything unique
I'm at 1:25 and I'm already asking myself "really?" This is just insanely simple and useful
yeah, my reaction was quite similar when Ian mentioned the material list for this farm on his discord server prior to when this farm was up in the air to whether or not he should make a video about it.
I love the simplicity and modesty of your ideas. Keep on going it, man!
I've been binge watching your farms recently and created your wither skull farm like a week ago, and here is another excellent farm. You are amazing as always! ❤️
I love how people keep designing farms until Ian arrives destroying the whole category
Never fails to amaze me how simple yet effective each and every one of your designs are.
Everything about your tutorials is amazing! Please keep making them!
Amazing. Not only the design is elegant in how cheap and efficient it is. Also the chosen subject is not an expected one. Love how you integrate seemingly unrelated game mechanics into your farms to improve simple quirks
I found your channel back when you were at a thousand and change subscribers. I'm very glad that number went up, your contraptions are always a combination of masterful technical knowledge and the cheapest, most simple things one can possibly get away with.
You'd probably make a decent Forthwright if you're not one already :-D
I never thought I would be so excited just to watch a sheep farm tutorial but wow. The burnout update trick is something I am sure I will use in my future builds.
Every mine craft player should know about your channel. Awesome stuff man.
I really love the way you make videos. They are so easy to follow and understand and are so fun to watch and learn new stuff.
Thanks for the guide 💚
Beautiful design, I love that you included extra uses for the burnout clock.
Your voice is so relaxing, when I'm not playing Minecraft I love to watch these just to hear it and see the smart builds
What can I say, so elegant! Once again I learn new things about minecraft, that clock system is so simple.
Great video as always Ian! Thanks for the incredible farms!
Great farm, Ian always brings the new and never seen designs, keep up
I learn something new with each and every one of these tutorials. Keep up the amazing work!
Brilliant simplicity as always! Thanks again Ian.
That redstone clock is an amazing way to utilize the utmost minimum of your resources. I love it, I was always thinking of how to do it and you sir have done it. It's brilliant
ianxofour delivering banger designs as usual. Amazing work.
This is insane, always outstanding and pushing the limits of the game's mechanical intricacies and nuances. Absolutely floored by this after just deciding to start a sheep farm on my realm
Another blessing from this channel while I’ve been looking for a design!
Super amazing work . Really nice to see a video after so long as well.
You sir are insane! I thoroughly appreciate the simplicity and efficiency that you’re able to find. Thank you for another absolute gem.
Your tutorials are the best!! Built this in a late game hardcore world and it still produces more than any other quick farm
Incredible as always, thanks for the extra farms at the end
He's back! Love every one of your vids. Every one is elegant and a pleasure to listen to/watch. Top tier every time.
Elegant as always! thanks for making these videos!
Hi Ian thanks so much for sharing, and will definitely be using this farm/build in my up coming 1.20 survival world... no need for observers, what a treat!
You’re an inspiration to the farm tutorials world. Thank you for the designs.
thats impressive . your designs are brilliant . thanks for making them .
Thank you SOOO much for all that you do, ianxofour! It's because of you that I can even make my hardcore series possible. This guy's a genius! I love you so much! :))) I mention you multiple times in my series. Your farms are a staple in my world!
the goat is at it again
And they really just gave me probably the best compact design I've seen for a sugar cane/bamboo farm in the outro
what an awesome design- you never cease to impress :) thanks!
I was lucky enough to overlook the development of this video in your discord which I joined recently, and your involvement with your community is simply unmatched. Creators, take notes. Keep up the great work
I honestly didn't even know you could use shears automatically like that, awesome stuff as always man, glad to see you at well over 100k
Simple and efficient! Great job Ian!
Has usual pretty cool stuff, thank u for the farm and for explaining all the mechanics that evolves it, keep the good work
these farms are truly a joy to see, even if I'm not planning to build them
Thank you Ian!
I love your farms, more than enough to supply my needs. I've built the gold and guardian farms on my smp server and they work beautifully
damn bro. y'all never stop with the best builds
It's always pleasant to watch you upload. Ty
Glad to see youre still uploading
Absolutely brilliant. And I like the concept of using "nuisance" mechanics like torch burnout in creative new ways. I really don't use it in anything I make, but I should probably consider it more.
Great farm as usual! We added 4 to our Day One Iron Farm server, and get decent rates for all colors. Because this is very much a “set it and forget it” farm, next one of the top dispensers I added a solid block, then a comparator, into a redstone dust on a glass block (to not block the daylight sensor) into a torch tower that powers a redstone lamp when it runs out of shears.
We did have the occasional missing sheep and disappearing leaves at first, until we realizes we were not in the savanna biome and need to take lightening into account, so it needs a roof or a lightning rod nearby.
thx. i added that to the description.
I really appreciate that you explain the game mechanics behind your design. I love to know why the farm works so I can adjust the farm's design or apply the same principles to other designs (like you showed with that bamboo farm!)
Before this video, I knew that a redstone clock with a single torch would burn out, but I didn't know that a block update would restore it temporarily.
I also like how the farm is set up to allow the items to move upwards through the glass blocks. I think I've seen that used before, but it's uncommon. Most designs require the standard hopper minecart collection system, but they are so loud and annoying.
Your explanation is so good that even I didn't use your design I can still use the knowledge to improve mine, thank you
And here he cames with another banger to give us simplest farms
thank you so much ianxofour and ur community 💗
Another banger another banger another banger another banger
Thank you so much for this amazing farm! It produces so much wool I started using wool as fuel! It is light years ahead the "normal" wool farm! Keep innovating!
Howdy saplings
I feel like I know most there is to know about this game after the last decade of playing and watching technical youtubers play, I just found this series and I have learned so much more already its insane
Another wonderful and cheap farm. Absolutely elegant work. 😌
Another brilliant farm. Thank you Ian
I consistently like comment and share Ian's vidios to encourange him to make more farm designs like these! xD
Keep it up Ian!
Elegant and very effective. Nice to see you again
A great video as always!
Great farms man, keep it up!!😊
This is such a good tutorial. Doesn’t just show you how to build it, explains every single bit of red stone and other things involved. Thanks Ian
Awesome farm. The redstone torch clock blew my mind
ianxofour videos are the IV bag that keeps me alive
I have always hated sheep farm designs that use hopper minecarts to collect the wool. I've used clocks that will push water through sheep cells to move the wool to collection before, to moderate success, but this system is just so clean. You've done it again, ianxofour. Good god.
Wow! Just wow! Every video you post make me love the game more. Thank you for sharing
can't wait to watch Fauna make this
You know what, I watched some other videos, started collecting a ton of resources, remember how amazing your farms are, watched this, and regretted all the time and iron I wasted on other farms... your channel and farms really are the cheapest and most ingenuitive farms I've ever seen
Tested extensively - another awesome design. The shears will last for about 9 stacks of every color. Yes is crucial to don't flip the trapdoors after putting the sheeps in place - they will move just a bit and will not be sheared anymore.
Great, great design. Chapeau
The farms this man designs are just amazing really
Your designs are mind blowing
atlast an ianxofour video 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ian's one of the few youtubers who I give an instalike without even watching the video yet. I'm always sure it'll be good.
My dude, another solidly incredible tutorial. You are a minecraft god
I thought i had buit all of IanX04's farms, i was wrong. Look forward to additional farms to come!
I swear every time he makes a farm it’s the best most simplistic farm out there
Legend back with another epic farm after 4 months
I love you man.
Your channel is -objectively best- perfect for technical survival
Ian back with another banger
Just brilliant. You always make the best farms. Thak you so much :)
Keep up the quality videos my guy
it's a good day if ianxofour posts a video
This folks is why we love ianxofour and his innovation for minecraft!
You are now officially the farm goat
this is insanely minimalistic and still so functional, HOW. youre a minecraft genius
Your focus on making easy to build farms in second to none! Keep up the good work.
A note on the burnout-based sugarcane & bamboo farms you showed at the end: I think you can place the pistons all in a row, because the side pistons get powered by QC. However, they might be prone to breaking after a while, because if the cane or bamboo grows during the cooldown period, there will be no more block updates.
That configuration has the broken item fall on the extended piston, which complicates collection.
Sweet I was just looking for a sheep farm to make mapart. Can't wait to build it
Amazing as usual! I can’t wait to try with 16sheeps to have all 16 colors.
I came in expecting the saaaame old basic design… but this is cool. I should never underestimate Ianxofour
