1979 Ford Bronco with a 4BT Diesel Engine 🤯

  • We're going for a drive in Nathan's 1979 Ford Bronco that's powered by a 3.9L 4BT Cummins inline-four diesel engine. Nathan built this truck from basically nothing, did all the work to the suspension, drivetrain, body work and all.
The 4BT-which stands for four-cylinder, B-series, Turbocharged-was used mostly in midsize box trucks, agricultural equipment and small industrial vehicles, and is basically a smaller version of the popular 5.9L 12V Cummins found in the 1989-98 Dodge trucks.

Nathan has a nice bronco. Built it all himself. I hope Chad is taking lessons since he knows what he's doing. Jolene had fun getting in that one all while working the camera.

Wow, a musical interlude. You don't hear that very often on this channel. Some good roadin' music. Chad, ever the gentleman trying to assist Jolene into the back seat. Naughty boy. Nice truck that Nathan built. Keep your heads up and the pumps handy, looks like a tropical storm is headed your way. Nothing like a road tour to pick up the spirits and clear the noggin' for what's ahead.

I have a 78 Bronco and a 79 Bronco payed $800 each and drove the 78 for 10 years now they both set in my yard. It is unreal all the people who want to buy them. I seen a completely restored 79 at the car wash today so had to check it out. Owner showed it to me, very nice 351 automatic repainted original two tone brown. Man said he has $58,000 into it. OMFG

Nathans got a cool ride, my brother had a 78 bronco like that but it was painted purple and the tailgate was fibergalssed in with 36 inch mud swampers on it. I loved sliding off the top in the summer. Something like that you couldnt miss driving down the road.

If you used the Broncos NP435 trans, how did you mate it up with the 4BT? Did you mate the 435 to a gm/cummings bell, go with and aftermarket of fab something up yourself?
Just curious because Im tired of the 429 I swapped into my 78 Bronco and Im looking into a 4BT swap since I retired my old girl to the ranch.
