I love how we both get quieter when there's people around.
Ha! I tend to get louder it seems. Guy today at the steel yard eventually asked me to stop yelling at him (during normal conversation)
Assembling the whole kit is like enjoying a full plate of spaghetti, pre-assembled parts is like somebody cut up the pasta for me. Sure it'll taste the same, but there's a certain essence that has been taken away. Kind of left with the feeling of "Okay...thanks I guess?"
And rtrs suck. Shitty electronics and assembled by some kid in china.. passsss
I wish these companies would stop catering to the feeble minded and thinking profits only.
Thank you Josh for the effort making the show under the circumstances
Applaud your commitment with all of us that weekly wait for the SNU.👏👏👏👏
I wouldn’t be mad if shocks were pre built
This is dedication ladies and gentlemen.
Props for getting a busy news week done on the road.
Damn good video from an airport. Great job Josh
My favorite part of RC is building them. I only buy kits, and a few have come with assembled components. I dismantle them and rebuild them myself.
Josh is in low energy airport whisper mode. 😂 Cheers brother!
SNU :ASMR Edition
I will have to get that body for my Infraction or Felony! Thats a sweet looking Porsche body!
Dedication, my friend. No silly airline is going to ruin your streak. lol I didn't mind it, at all. ... I prefer to build it all. I feel like if something comes preassembled, it may be hiding something. Many times, we need to make that fine adjustment that makes it smoother, quieter, etc. Keep it rolling! Great job.
I prefer building the whole kit. That said I wouldn't mind if the shocks were pre built! Cursed e-clips! 😂 Thanks for dealing with the airport and putting the snu out this week!
To answer this week's question, I think we first need to ask, "What differentiates a kit from an RTR?" The obvious...and simplest...answer is, "A kit comes in pieces, and only pieces", whereas an RTR (whether or includes batteries, or not) means "you can take it out of the box, plug in some batteries, and start running the vehicle".
The problem with this 'simplification' is that there are not only many RCs that fall in-between these two 'extremes', but that there are also manufacturers classifying things differently than what they actually are. For example, a 'roller' is neither a kit, nor an RTR...you can't just "take it out & run it" (it has no electronics), but it's also not "in pieces"...but, there might still be some building involved.
Cross RC might include pre-built transmission (which, considering the complexity of many of their transmissions, I actually appreciate this), and axles (which, honestly, I'd prefer to build)...but, everything else is still in pieces...so, I'd definitely consider this a 'kit'. However, you have other companies that have an almost completely-assemble RC (you might have to install the included electronics, fill the shocks with oil, and paint the body), yet the are still marketing it as a "kit"...but, in truth, it's really a "roller, with electronics included".
Moving forward, unless manufacturers can agree on some sort of "standardization of nomenclature", I think that, unfortunately, what-is-really-what, and what-vehicles-are-classified-as, is only going to get diluted even further. In the not-so-distant future, we could find what is currently considered an ARTR (an RTR without transmitter or receiver) belong marketed as a 'kit', purely because you have to add "something" to it. We could even find what we currently consider a "kit with electronics included" (such as several Tamiya kits) eventually marketed as an 'ARTR', just because it includes everything other than transmitter & receiver. I realize these are "extreme" examples, and unlikely to actually happen...but, it helps to better explain how, even right now, 'kits' are not always "kits".
Now, if you'll excuse me, time to get back to building a REAL kit...a really huge kit - the Kraken VESLA.5 C1E SBK. 😁
The dedication, the professionalism! You just don't get this with those canadian channels! A true patriot
Building every part of the kit is why I think most of us buy a kit. I hate having pre-assembled parts. I go and un-assemble those parts and go through them myself then rebuild them.
Appreciate you still doing this while stuck at an airport!
You should do it in an airport every time, thank you. Dang you are truly dedicated!! I appreciate it.
im all about the full kit builds! plus its a fun learning opportunity with the kids. It also allows you to build with a "setup" that you are comfortable with.
Thanks for getting it out even though you were traveling
I prefer kits. But some models I purchase are RTRs. But I upgrade some of the parts just so I have a reason to disassemble & rebuild.
Building helps me understand the model's capabilities out of the box. It also helps when I need to troubleshoot an issue.
I'm digging the out of office scale news . Next needs to be in a coffee shop
Kits all the way, I really enjoy the assembly process and really getting to know the vehicle
Thanks for the update. Always looking forward to it.
Building EVERYTHING for myself.
Great ! Love to see bus station edition, train station edition, etc
I want to fully assemble a kit for a build. You get more intimate with your rc seeing every part and piece and how they work and fit together. Not to mention it is done to your satisfaction grease applications, shock builds, loctite on proper screws, etc...
I’ve always enjoyed the building of a kit and still do to this day. I would love to have Tamiya bodies already completed. Those are a chore.
Awesome dedication to keep scale news role in Josh. I know how hard it could be to do something and not be interrupted at an airport. 😂
And thanks for sharing your likeness with night Customs to complete the HT interior with you and Matt. Although I think you should be the driver unless he also add sound of you yelling at Matt on his driving. 😂
Full kits!! I would prefer to assemble everything myself. Wish more manufacturers would offer kit versions of their RTR's!!
DIA SNU edition was 🤫🤣. Thank you for coming out and playing trucks with us. We’ll see you soon. 👍
I appreciate your dedication to your channel. I don't mind a good mix of both preassembled parts and kits. I do enjoy building a good kit, especially if the parts are well designed and innovative. Great show as always!
Thank you for your dedication
I prefer to assemble everything. That way when I discover a cross threaded and stripped bolt in the gear box housing, I know who wasn't paying attention.
Thanks for the dedication of doing the SNU from any location 😊. Re the question; I hate building shocks, to the point I have so many still in their bags. I just put on after market ones.
Not bad for being at the airpot 😂
Not bad production at all for a loud airport.
That jeep lookin body on the crx2 was pretty nice 🤘y'all have a badass day🤘☕️🤘
Always have to teardown and check the amount of grease in any pre-assembled rtr, and now kit parts.
I think Building everything from the ground up is the way to go including shocks, diffs and transmissions. Maybe offer a quick builders kit for the impatient folks, but I am interested in knowing every detail and how it’s made personally. I want the full experience.
Dedication! Thank you!
So was the reunion with Matt a bro shake, bro hug or an all out “I love you man” hug?
Shocks and links aren’t fun to build, but I prefer to do it rather than the kids in China.
Even when I get an RTR, I take it apart first. I'm old, so I remember when you had to build everything.
Talk about dedication. Appreciate the SNU on the road edition. I prefer full kits. That way I know the ins and outs of the entire rig. Looking forward to seeing your and SBG buggy runs on that difficult course. Those rocks looked like grip tape.
Gotta say, I loved the weekly news in a random place. Hopefully we’ll see more of this??
My level of embarrassment won’t allow that. This was so painful for me! I get embarrassed at home even when I feel like Nicole can hear me talking!
When I get a kit that has any kind of pre assembled components I typically open them up and make sure everything is up to spec. I prefer to do it myself.
Son, another outstanding video! A lot of great content in this airport addition.
Great video, thanks for the info. I’m a kit builder and I’d rather build the whole kit, and not have some parts built already in the kit. It’s a builder’s kit for a reason, and we don’t need parts already built. Kits with built parts in it, take the fun out of building. Can’t wait to see what new kits come out for us to build.
Thank you for another great video, despite the conditions. I want to build everything in a kit, if some parts are pre assembled I would tear them down and rebuild them too. Change the oil in the shocks, maybe remove the springs too, or to grease or regrease the gears in axles, transmissions or diffs.
Building the whole kit. As a seasoned builder it’s what I enjoy most. The building and even customizing. I do like a good rtr now and again though. I don’t mind some shocks being prebuilt though. I can see it as an approach to maybe newer kit builders to the hobby.
A kit with pre assembled shocks would be nice.
When i’m in the mood for a kit, I want to do some assembly, but i’m not going to be bothered if they take care of transmission and shocks for me! 😂
this could be a cool way for them to offer a kit to a younger crowd, like maybe a 10 or 12-year-old could handle an RC if most of the difficult things were already handled.
Great video!
Tank's for doing SNU in every circumstances!
I prefer to build every part of the kit...
That's a double thumbs up 👍👍
I prefer kits, but as kits are getting fewer, i'll take whatever i get. RTRs just mean more work, as i have to take the kit apart first. Ready to Reassemble.
I'd love to see kits with CF and FRP chassis having smooth edges. Smoothening and sealing those fiber plate edges are someting i really hate.
I like building kits. If I buy an rtr I usually tear it down and put it back together
I would say this is a good job for an airport edition, wish we could have made it to the WE RC Rock Nattys, I bet that was a blast!
My mind boggles how you pulled that out of the bag! Great job! :)
Thank You for this weeks SNU
Cool to hear you speak about HOBBYTECH, french brand !!! Go Alpine !!! ;)
I love kits and usually don’t care for RTR’s. I think I couldn’t mind having the shocks prebuilt though. The most time consuming is filling and bleeding them so you still have that. I actually like transmission and axle builds so I’d prefer to keep doing that though. The biggest pet peeve with kits these days is pre-drilled bodies though. I also hate pre-painted bodies. I hate that!
Well, that’s dedication.. I’ll give you that! Thanks for the news😅
This man never misses a episode at the air port still doing it 🫡🫡
I like building the kit every part, when you mass assemble things certain things get over looked. I build with passion so I know it’s done right and won’t leak like shocks.
Shocks are the only thing I would like pre assembled. But if it’s all or nothing, then my vote is for kits. I love the build and I’m half way tempted to take apart my H10 Optic just because. Oh wait, I bought all the machined gears and new Hobbywing all in one. lol, it’s coming apart!
The show must go on! SNU is really your most redeeming quality. I thank you for your service.😊
Kit. I've been disassembling stuff way longer than putting it back together.
Gyro module for a FPV pan & tilt would be interesting.
Building every single part is definitely my favorite part!
BUILD IT ALL!
I don't mind the shocks being built. I am not good with shocks. The rest it doesn't matter to me. Great show.
No orlandoooo for me! Don't feel like pulling out the hair I have left! Hahaha
I love my MT12. I just don’t see why people do not set these up for 4WS, crab, RWS, just by clicking the button. I know to each their own. Your dedication is unviable.
Hopefully you'll get a bump to your subscribers because you mentioned the rcmap and many ppl didn't know about you and vice versa so you were mentioned back in the group of 2k members
I enjoy every step even the shocks lol not really. but I still enjoy doing them to. I feel like kits or even custom one off builds are fun. Not going to lie though sometimes I get busy and if I’m not really feeling it then I put all of it back in a box and revisit it later on like a grand hauler I started two years ago. I had the chassis together then realized that I wanted hex hardware, changed that then kept building and stopped again because I wanted to do almost everything in aluminum. So I just finally rounded up all the bits still waiting on a custom lighting kit for it but it’s back out on one of my two work benches in the hobby room(Spare Room lol). Half is mine and the Misses keeps all her flower stuff on one side more like little corner 😂😂
Josh, thank you so much for taking the time to get the SNU out this week. That is a lot of dedication to film at the airport. As to the question of the week. I prefer to do the whole kit, including shocks. That way, if it's screwed up, I only have myself to blame.
I prefer building the whole thing myself as a way to make sure there's enough lube in gears. I often times disassemble them if they are pre-assembled just to verify. I can see where pre-assembled parts makes it easier for a beginner to get into it. I think pre-assembled shocks and maybe trans if it a complex one, but i think axles are easy enough a beginner should do.
Mad lad filming at the airport, you're a real influencer now.
Greasy parts might be nice to have prebuilt, but I'm ready to build the whole kit
I absolutely love kits half the fun for me is building and pre assembled parts like axles and transmissions kind of suck because you have to take them apart to check for grease
The more of it I can build the better.. but that said, my Optic just arrived last week and is my 1st VP RTR so being able to experience it assembled as the good looking buggy it is, get a feel for what I want to change and then strip part of it down to do the items I wish to upgrade or tune is so far pretty enjoyable..
Glad you had a good time away..
Cheers
I love building from the ground up. That being said, I would think if some pre-assembling is taking place the cost of the kit would be increased. I would rather save the money and do the work myself.
I disassemble RTRs so yeah, I want to do all the steps of the kit myself lol
I could get behind prebuilt shocks, then I don’t have to blame myself if they happen to leak😂
I love the Denver airport. Unless you land at one terminal and leave from another... That's an adventure.
I always prefer to assemble everything on a kit even when I’m forced into a RTR or Roller RC I disassemble it down to as much as possible mostly to verify quality or some sort of customizing/upgrades
Assembling the mechanical parts is intrinsic to it being a functional mechanical model kit. The only benefit could be showing RTR folks that there is more gratification from using tools rather than just charging batteries and hitting the trail without the "scary😂" parts of the build process.
When I build a kit, I want to be able to build all of it. When comes with part of the kit already built I always go though what has been built and make sure it is right.
Anything with E clips preinstalled would be nice.
A kit is a kit & I’m sure each manufacturer has its own way of presenting these kits but certain things if already partly assembled is good for people staring out building from a kit anyone so obsessed with building every little thing is ok to you just have to find the right kit for your skill level. People have to remember not everyone has the time or skill to assemble every little part.
Vanquish needs to put out some green wheels that aren't limited and crazy expensive
I always enjoy to build the complete kit. It’s my favorite part. I am definitely not interested in a kit that is half built when I buy it!
I like to build everything myself, I was a little bummed when I found out the axles and trans were pre built on my criss kit
A kit is just that a kit(un-assembled), If I wanted something pre-assembled I`d buy an RTR!
No pre built anything! If it’s already assembled I have to disassemble it to make sure it’s put together properly and greased properly
I favor building kits. Been doing since the mid eighties. Not a fan of RTR. Rollers are ok. I guess pre built sub assemblies would be ok. Just would rather build the entire kit. Also choosing the electronics to use is big for me. Always been a lefty driver. RTR doesn't accommodate my "disability" to drive right handed. Keep up the good work !
Full Kit Build!
If it's a kit, I generally want to build the entire thing, but I wouldn't be offended if the links were preassembled. I prefer building the axles, transmission, and shocks to my own standards. Removing flashing, doing any necessary clearancing, applying threadlock and using my preferred greases.
Might be an outlier here, but I hate building shocks. Without some jigs to keep em equal, I feel like every shock ends up at slightly different pressure. Maddening. I also don't really find any joy in threading rod ends. Would not miss these parts of kit building.
I prefer to build the whole thing. That's one of my favorite parts of the hobby. I've been known to do an entire build and sell it without ever running it. It's kinda my calm space. I don't want any of it done for me. I also own a real nice futaba radio I really like to use. So, I won't buy an RTR, cuz I'm not willing to throw all the electronics in the garbage to put futaba compatible stuff in. I don't want 15 radios. If companies would start offering almost ready to run versions that were assembled but with no electronics I would prolly be willing to buy that, disassemble it, and build it back my way. But it would get stripped completely.
Nice job on Airport Version SNU.
Have fun all.
Man good questions I like the full build I don't feel like I have built it if parts are somewhat assembled. Just part of my old I guess 😅
Define like kits i started with the Tamiya kits as a kid in the 80s there has been some Nice RTR released lately Thanks for the videos
I always prefer the whole kit. I always prefer kits to rtr, but some of the RCs I like only come in rtr, which is a bummer.
The only thing that would make kit assembly more enjoyable is having pre-cut polycarbonate bodies.
I prefer to build the whole kit. The few RTR's I owned in the past, I don't seem to grew on me. Only exception is my 2x Savage X 4.1 that I still own.
My week is not complete without the Scale News. Thanks Josh. 🫡👊
