    Tbh the best part about diesel torque is not the acceleration per se, it is the ability to tow a lot more weight and the reduced mpg. The real problem with diesels has always been NOx, and the real reason these types of engines will see a restriction in sales now and be completely discontinued in EU by 2040. I doubt it will make much sense to own a diesel in EU past 2020, as tax, congestion charge, parking, fines on low emission zones, and overall running costs will be prohibitive.

    Now that you have had this car a few years, could you give an idea of yearly service costs? I’m really on the verge of buying this car but my BF has been warning me of upkeep expenses. I really would appreciate any help with this. It’s Hard to find answers on this particular model. Thanks!!

    • @stylishandliterate
      @stylishandliterate  3 года назад +1

      Maintenance costs will vary depending on how much you drive. The car requires service every 10-12k kms (or 6-8k miles). “A” service is an oil change and “B” service could mean both an oil change and fluid change. Depending whether you go to the dealership or somewhere else, a service can cost you anywhere from $300-1200 CAD (likely less in the US). I usually take my car in for service twice a year. I haven’t had many issues with it mechanically, I had to replace the alternator pulley once & it cost around $500 at a mechanic shop (mostly labour). There are also some repairs that I would likely only go to the dealership for, so you pay a premium there. You also have to factor wear & tears items like brake pads, tires, etc. Like I said, there are definitely a lot of factors to consider when budgeting for maintenance... but I would say about $2000 a year to be on the conservative side. Some years you might spend less and some you might spend more.

    I have 2015 GLK 250 bought with 5000 DEMO mile on it. I drive quite a lot for work and it averaged about 45000 miles per year. Since I bought it I put 165000 miles on it and she is still strong. I get 37 MPG as of now and it is most of highway driving. It is pretty impressive. I'm really sad that MB getting away from Diesel vehicles cause the mileage advantage and reliability of the strong engine. I'm trying to keep my baby to last long years coming and I hope to make half million miles.

    • @stylishandliterate
      @stylishandliterate  4 года назад

      Hello! Maintenance is definitely more expensive than a subaru, but also less frequent. More expensive oil/parts/labour. Still have it, almost 5 years now. Still love it & it runs great. Have not had any major issues with it except for a squeaky alternator (had to have pulley replaced), had to replace the intercooler hose (minor repair) and there was also a leak in the washer hose (again minor repair). Overall, no big problems.

      @@stylishandliterate Whoa! That was quick response! Thank you. How did the HVAC do during our Canadian winters...I live in Alberta...

    • @stylishandliterate
      @stylishandliterate  4 года назад

      HVAC works well! It takes a minute to warm up, but it works well. The side mirrors are heated so that’s helpful when you’re clearing your car of snow/ice. I would definitely recommend having the built in block heater connected. I park my car in the garage, so I usually do not have trouble with start-up. But on the rare occasions that I have to park outside & it’s >-25°c out, the car will stutter to start. The block heater works wonders. It’s not easy to get to, so a mechanic will probably charge you about $200 to connect for you, but well worth it if you’re in a cold climate.

    • @richardt2052
      @richardt2052 4 года назад

      @@stylishandliterate thank you. I totally agree with the block heater install. I currently have a VW Passat TDi it has a block heater and I hear and see the difference if I do not plug the vehicle during cold days. Thank yo again and stay safe.

    Great video. I am looking at replacing my 2007 Ram 2500 4x4 5.9 CRD. After two 3/4 ton Dodge diesel trucks I am looking for an SUV or awd car with a diesel oil burner. Thank you for the video. I like Mercedes Benz but my wife has a stigma of the brand and doesn’t want to buy a Merc. Funny most folks snub the diesel because they say it is slow. The torque is what makes them pull harder going up hills and making the drive enjoyable. Children are growing up and not really needing 6 minimum seating anymore. I like the E250 with the 4 matic. Always prefer AWD in the Okanagan as we have cold dry winters with lots of mountain driving winter conditions. Cheers.

    I've always wanted a diesel and like how these look (real shame they only made em for a few years), but there's way too much new age automated bullshit for me. Getting 16 mpg in my Jeep is laughable , but its just old enough to have only minimal annoying automated stuff like abs and traction control. Will probably keep it, but if I was ever to buy something newer than a 2000 vehicle and get that crap turned off, it'd be one of these.

    Good grief. She keeps saying diesels aren’t as “powerful” as gasoline engines, but it’s torque that really translates to “power” and the diesel has that hands down over the gasser, not even close. Also, diesels being more expensive to maintain is debatable to say the least. Not spark plugs to change, no “tune-ups”. Yes, injectors are expensive to change if and when they fail. The price of diesel really varies nationwide but keep in mind the V6 requires premium fuel.
