Another 'trick' is just chewing your food more! In our fast living world we don't take our time to chew our food. Currently I am on a treatment in a health resort where they teach the importance of chewing your food properly. Yes, it works, I automatically eat less and I'm full. Often enough I can't finish my meal. My mother used to say: "Our stomach doesn't have teeth" so we have to do the work :)
Surely if you chew your food more then you will get hungrier quicker?? The food will have a higher surface area to volume ratio meaning that enzymes can digest your food quicker. Surely that will lead to your food being digested quicker and leading you to have an empty stomach and hungry again??
1) Down size yr plate, the portion 2) Choose darker colour plate/ bowl 3) Drink taller glasses water/liquid 4) Dont eat from a packet/ divide portion 5) Drink water b4 food/ sometimes u r thirsty not hungry 6)Keep triggered food out of sight 7) Leave food on the plate 8) Portion control 9) Divide yr meal at restaurant/ take half home 10) Mindful eating/ dont eat in front of TV etc Im going to put myself to test..try 1 wk of this rules at a time. Taking each day day by day until it becomes my habit. Portion control is my problem.
I do No. 3, 4, 5, 9 & 10 always. Still a working progress. No I eat food until I feel full mindfully. I just make sure I move more. Do more exercise a lot during this Lockdown. Either cycling, running or walking combined with home exercise HIIT, body combat or body pump! 2 or 3 exercises per day. Weight wise, not lighter just more toned!
Joanna! It's been three years that I've been following your tips, workouts and all the methods you teach in your videos for a healthy lifestyle. I've lost 7-10 lbs. already and I couldn't have done it without your videos. Thank you! and I hope you'll continue doing more videos and inspire a lot more people to live a healthy lifestyle
@@basiic2134 without counting calorues and being too obsessive that is actually a normal amount to lose. Especially if you dont have too much to get rid of. I wanna lose 5 lbs that i gained during last 2 years. So few months for losing thatvis not very long actually.
I definitely agree with swapping large plate with small plate. it has been my help in loosing and maintaining my weight. the one about soft drinks isn't better to go with smaller cup that way u consume less as well?
The taller cup has the same volume as the shorter wider one, it just looks like there's more in it, it's to trick your brain into thinking there's more food/drink than there actually is, thus helping you feel fuller
Unfortunately for me it's the opposite.. smaller plates makes me feel I didnt take enough fair portion but only a small one so I end up pouring more food on my plate
I've been trying to eat less for like few months now and I've been doing that pretty well. But these hacks will help me even more and get motivated! Thank you so much Joanna! X
The last tip was definitely what I needed to hear. I’ve been eating and watching Netflix so much these past few months, and I’ve noticed a huge weight gain. Thank you.
Joanna u are the best!!!! i' ve always known it! many people say..... distract ur self when eating, that way, u won't eat much. but u said otherwise, and I think u are the one who is damn right! thanks for the tips.
I love these hacks, thankyou! my favourite is dividing up your plate when you eat out. It's such as problem now in western countries. I eat more food when I'm at restaurants/cafes and I feel pressure to eat everything off my plate. Also the desserts are enormous. I've found another tip, if it's possible, is to order an entree size meal for your main meal., for example "calamari and salad," "soup", "oysters", "fish cakes". This depends of course on the entree meals though- e.g no point if the entree meals are "bowl of chips", " crackers and dip", etc.
Another good tip is to prepare your meals for the week. On Sundays, I go grocery shopping and then make breakfast, lunch, and dinner for Monday - Friday. That way it's already portioned out properly and i don't eat out (saves both wallet and waistline). Also, it's very convenient and saves time during the week!
My family leaves the food in the kitchen and we eat in the hall. The process of walking up to the food in the kitchen, serving ourselves and coming back to our seat actually helps limit overeating.
I have been using the smaller plate trick for a while now and I am satisfied with the way my eating habits have changed. When my husband prepared my plate on a larger plate. I usually end up saying that it's too much food. I want to practice more of drinking water when feeling hungry instead of grabbing unhealthy snacks.
The drinking water thing has really helpful. I used to snack a lot whenever I was bored or something, but since I got a personal water bottle, I just keep it by me a lot. It helped a lot with cravings, and I drank much more water than usual by needing to refill it a lot :)
I love the tip for restaurant portions Joanna! I really struggle to finish a meal when I go out to eat, but this is a great way to make the most of money spent and keep my stomach happy x
I learned the small plate trick from my health teacher when she lectured us on diets and disorders. Where I live, our culture is very loose on portion control, so once you start using smaller plates your family will definitely notice. They might poke fun but don't mind it.
Hi Joanna MY FOOD HACK is to drink water first thing in the morning, before any food or hot beveragers. I also like putting my food on brightly coloured plates. Helps me eat less xx ALL THE BEST.
I really appreciate what you are preaching, it feels like I'm betraying something by liking your advice, but when I really think about it, that something never deserved more than a second chance and I cannot make myself suffer for ignorant to mindset of winners anymore, no one should be spoiled by such coddling ever. It ruins human potential and all corresponding civilizations.
While I agree on keeping junk food out of sight, minimizing distractions and eating more fruits and veggies, it's sad the amount of hacks to make smaller portions for whatever you eat. That's why most people snack, you aren't getting any good amount of calories to keep you satisfied. And I bet most aren't getting they right amount they need daily.I eat large portions at every meal. No, I'm not fat and I'm not bloated after my meal. I don't eat any animal products and focus on eating healthy whole plant based foods. I'm actually eating more than when I was a meat eater, and I'm actually eating the correct amount of calories I need each day. So it's not about how small your portions are, it's what's on your plate
Joanna is sincere and personable, while at the same time direct and to-the-point. (It must be a natural gift since very few people can do that successfully) Thank you for another terrific video presentation. You have the most beautiful brain on youtube.

Well, lovely-Joanna, my fave trick is that glass of room temperature water, or warm water. And i do try to chew more, but find it difficult to put aside all technology while chewing. I love your videos, and you look great. 💙
I never knew how much distractions can cause me to eat . Usually I find something good to watch out tv or online and I always feel the need to eat something , even when I'm not hungry . Thanks for the tip , I will try this to see how it goes ☺
Great advice, I never thought the colour of your plate could change anything but now that you mention it, it makes sense! Thanks Joanna, cute outfit by the way!
Most of these I already knew or do. I do divide my plate in a restaurant; what I am going to eat and what I am going to take home. That way I don't overeat. It came to my mind that you could ask the waitress for a take home box when she brings the meal (early) if you are the type to pick at your take home portion so you don't do that. You could pack it out of sight before you finish the meal. The only one I didn't think of was the 1/2 plate of vegetables, 1/4 meat/protein, and 1/4 grains. Most of the time my plate is 3/4 vegetables and 1/4 meat or fish but have noticed that the reason current friends aren't losing weight is because their portion sizes are too large (a smaller plate would help them with that) but also, they usually have 1/2 their plate filled with the meat or rice (whole grain or starch) portions. I will take a picture of one of my meals and post it on FB to show them the correct portion ratios. Thanks to you for the suggestion and showing us the correct portion ratios.
Hi Joanna! I really love watching your videos and that is why I want to make sure that everyone will be able to enjoy your videos as well. There are a few mistakes in the closed-captions and I just wanted to point that out. I hope you will be able to fix it so that your video can be enjoyed by everyone :) Here are a few closed-caption mistakes that were present. "Joanna" instead of "Jonah" at 0:05 "are habit based" instead of "a habit base" at 0:19 "eat less" not "it last" at 0:26 "food hacks" not "foot hacks" at 0:31 "eating less" not "eating last" at 0:34 "these bowls" not "these balls" at 0:44 "pile on" not "pull on" at 0:51 "amount of rice" not "amount of rights" at 1:09 "dark plate" not "dark played" at 1:15 These are just a few that I caught. I hope you will be able to fix it so the 360 million folks globally who rely on closed captions can understand your video. Thank you!!! :)) Keep up the good work!
It was a good video I do agree with you on the portion sizes they are way to big. I think that you might have missed something though. I heard that it is good to eat your food slowly and not rush to eat it. Since it takes time for it to go from your mouth to your belly before you get the "I'm Full" feeling. Otherwise you will keep shoving food down there and end up getting stuffed which is something you should do as well.
But she never said to eat fast.. n yes you're right..chewing food properly n eating slowly is great for avoiding overeating..since after 20 mins of eating..our brain thinks we're full no matter how much we've eaten.
That is also true, but here's something I tell my kids all the time. If I don't say yes then it's a no. Which means we shouldn't assume someone will automatically know something. Every time I leave my house all I really see is people rushing from one task to the next do you think they do the same when they eat?
hey Joanna, I'v taken your advise and I replaced coffee with tee and I eat veggie soup with rice noodles for breakfast and I have seen a bigger change in my energy more than anything. Hopefully in 3 more weeks Ill start seeing body results :)
I am always suprised when I go out to eat now because I cook at home and have been making smaller portions and doing great. At the restaurant they serve so much food and I feel like I must eat it. .
1-smaller plates 2-contract the colours of your Plate and food 3-drink tall 4-buy small Packs instead of large packs 5-Drink water First 6-drink water or a soup before a meal 7-keep food Out of sight 8-leave evidence behinde 9-practice Proper plating Methode 10-divide the food in your plate 11-limit distractions during meals
I now know how to trick people minds' perception about sizes and portions. I can use this if I ever have a restaurant($$$) or if I invite friends to my house and make them feel visually saciated when I don't have enough food. I don't have problem with calories( I'm on a plant based diet, so. I consume less calories by default 😉)
You can also add Cinnamon to smoothies or tea to curb appetite. And avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague, because it makes you want to eat more.
I have some kind of weird eating disorder (if you can even call it a disorder), where I tend to associate the palette of certain foods for certain things. For example, when I eat cheese, I think of locksmithing, because that's what I tend to associate the taste with. When I'm eating grilled cheese sandwiches I associate the taste with piano regulation. For burritos it is for tool box tours or videos on how to become an apprentice mechanic. For the Tim Horton's Bacon and cheese panini it's ads for rubbish removal. For tim bits it's trumpet cases. For a Mars bar it's reading reviews about Stephen King's The Stand. For McDonald's hamburgers it's a training institute for becoming a building manager. For cheesecake it is a video of how to go about collecting diecast model aircraft. For potatoes, tomatoes and certain vegetables it's on how to grow a garden. For hot dogs it's either blade/silversmithing, or watching ads on convenience stores for sale. For meat loaf it's bird feeders, for TV dinners it's prison meals, for the pretzel cookie from Panago, it's videos on RUclips featuring the best first class product from 4-5 star airlines, for the mini wheats cereal that I eat, it's videos on the unboxing of Trumpeters 1/200 Titanic scale model kit, for nutella and the Vector cereal it's about telescopes and astronomy, etc etc.... For drinks: Just about any soft drink I associate the taste with restored elaborate coca cola dispensers, or new hand tools for the mechanic. For orange/apple juice it's for orance/apple farmers. For certain caffeine beverages it is the start-up procedure of an aircraft. Seriously, how weird is that??? Am I the only one with this "disorder?"
I just fasted and went from 193pounds to 157 pounds in a few months, but in quarantine I feel like I gained some weight because my belly fat grew idk , I’m gonna try this hopefully I eat less and lose some weight before I go back to school

"food hacks" not "foot hacks" at 0:31
"eating less" not "eating last" at 0:34
"these bowls" not "these balls" at 0:44
"pile on" not "pull on" at 0:51
"amount of rice" not "amount of rights" at 1:09
"dark plate" not "dark played" at 1:15
These are just a few that I caught. I hope you will be able to fix it so the 360 million folks globally who rely on closed captions can understand your video. Thank you!!! :)) Keep up the good work!
I like trick no 5. I want to say that everytime if you're hungry then watch this video before you eat. It'll give you some benefit of course.

Thank God for Joanna Soh.
Thank you. I like the contrasting plate idea
1-smaller plates
2-contract the colours of your Plate and food
3-drink tall
4-buy small Packs instead of large packs
5-Drink water First
6-drink water or a soup before a meal
7-keep food Out of sight
8-leave evidence behinde
9-practice Proper plating Methode
10-divide the food in your plate
11-limit distractions during meals
I don't understand your language but your speech is soooo nice

Yep this is going to fuel some eating disorders, self doubt and self hate..... thanks......
I like the trick of keeping snacks out of sight. That's helped me so much.
The plate trick is true. I did it and worked
Using smaller plate really works! 😍
You can also add Cinnamon to smoothies or tea to curb appetite. And avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague, because it makes you want to eat more.
I love this video... I'm going to try the eating lighter foods on darker plates
I haven't been thankful like now before, thank u very much for this video.
I kept a large bag of hot cheetos inside my pantry cabinet and I keep coming back because I know it's there 😂
Thank you, totally need this cause I was eating a lot....
