  • The Ellora Caves are the largest group of Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain rock-cut monuments in all of India. They comprise over 34 caves, ranging from huge pillared halls to massive free standing monuments like the gigantic Kailasha Temple, the largest monolithic structure in the world. It is estimated that between 1 and 6 million tons of basalt had to be removed for the construction of this wonder of ancient engineering, the same as the Great Pyramid of Giza.
There are many mysteries surrounding these caves, beginning with the tools and technologies employed for their construction, the true age of the caves, and their exact sequence.
Generally dated between the 6th and the 10th century CE, many believe that the caves may be in fact thousands of years older.

AWESOME !!!! But I already new that. Nobody knows who made this, they say somebody but it is pure speculations. This monument is imposible to do with normal understandings, nobody can explain, you even can't try.

When you remove more material than the structure, everything should be questioned?

Where did all the material go? 6 million tons of basalt cannot just have vanished into thin air…

You can always count on Muslims to want to preserve other philosophies and religions and important shrines they hold them up to preservation….maybe we could put them in charge of all the world heritage sites they keep them in such great condition

The entire complex was built by Buddhists. With the changing nature of Buddhism and time, Hindus Brahmin sect started calling it Hindu. The word Hindu was given by the Mughals which is not more than five hundred years old. While these Buddhist caves are thousands of years

Never seen a dumber comment before. Prob a ragebait. Hindu term originated in persia not mughals. Greeks called this place india, hence the book by megasthenes indica. Persians turned that into hind. And stop acting like buddhism is some seperate religion. Its just another sect of dharmic religions. Cry all you want you'll never escape the truth
