The cities of the ancient Indus were noted for their urban planning, baked brick houses, elaborate drainage systems, water supply systems, clusters of large non-residential buildings, and techniques of handicraft and metallurgy. Mohenjo-daro and Harappa very likely grew to contain between 30,000 and 60,000 individuals, and the civilisation may have contained between one and five million individuals during its florescence. A gradual drying of the region during the 3rd millennium BCE may have been the initial stimulus for its urbanisation. Eventually it also reduced the water supply enough to cause the civilisation's demise and to disperse its population to the east.

To be fair, John Marshall credited the Indian archeologists such as R. D. Banerji and his colleague as well as giving them credit for what a difficult excavation it must have been. Also, partition was in 1947. after Mr. Banerji died. So they were all under British Empire at the time.

The narrator explains how Indus river feeds millions of Indians today. I want to know how so? Indus river starts from Tibet, flows through the length of Pakistan and only flows through Ladakh region of India which is extremely sparsely populated.
When he says India he doesn't mean the current geography, he means during the Indic period, So I believe during Akhand Bharat time it used to be same which is now turned into different countries states etc.,
Earlier, the narrator was referring to the Indus river *bassin*, where millions of Indian citizens are living by now. Cf. rivers in Kasmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Pendjab, merging with the Indus river.

Very elaborate and educative documentary film on our very ancient and developed civilization of Indus Valley of India and Pakistan of today's world! It is very interesting to know and study this civilization, that has very distinctive urban settlements of Harappa, Mohenjo-Daro and Dhola Vira townships on the river. valley of Indus and Ghaggar Hakra, which is almost extinct or dried up today! The Indus Valley Civilization make us wonder about our ancient past and also warns us about the drastic and impending environmental disaster in the past and warns us about our future too! This type of disaster happened time and again in the history of our world! But it is happening in our recent past too! But unfortunately, we the 'Human' do not want to learn!
Yeah we should have learned that the climate has naturally been changing since the beginning of time. The whole climate agenda is about money and control of the peasants.
It remains an intriguing question as to how such an important civilizational remnant was agreed to go to the other side of the border and as to who made the decision! And Saaz Aggarwal mentions in her book that Sindh was a 'casteless society' !.Very strange. Probably needs further study!
One thing I don't understand, is how come the entire civilisation disappeared just becuase one relatively smaller river strand, called the Ghaggar Hakra, dried up in the Indus river valley, even though there were still many other tributaries of the actual Indus river that were all still flowing?! And most of the main cities of the civilisation, such as Harrappa and Mohenjo Dark, were all on the Indus tributiary banks (which is still flowing) and not the Ghaggar Hakra?! If the civilisation fell due to drought caused by the Ghaggar Hakra drying up, then how come the main cities which were not even located on the Ghaggar Hakra, but in fact located on the Indus river banks, why did these cities also fall and become abandoned despite still having a flowing river they can survive on?
It was a regional drought of at least 10 years possibly 20 ( I forget). I was recently watching a much newer documentary. There was also some type of uplift involved. I don't remember if it was post glacial like Scotland or not.
@@kitefan1 Thanks, but it still doesnt excplain why the entire civilisation disappeared, when the main Indus tributary, (where all the important cities were locate) was still flowing, and is still flowing today?

Recent research shows that the Ghaggar-Hakra was monsoon-fed during Harappan times, and had already dried-up during Vedic times, therefore, no way it can be Sarasvati River. Indo-Europeans entered India around 1500 BCE when Harappan civilization was already in decline. Vedic people had no scripts but Harrapan people had. Some Vedic scholars (e.g. Kochhar 1999) also believe the Helmand river corresponds to the Sarasvati river mentioned in the Rig Veda as the homeland of the Aryan tribes before migrating into the Indian Subcontinent, ca. 1500 BCE.

The research was carried out by an international team of scientists and published in the CELL research journal in 2019.

Less climate than Limnology - aka the study of rivers. It is not unknown in antiquity for large rivers to build up sediment to a point where they spill sideways and cut new channels to avoid the build up. At this point they eventually forge completely new channels where a large part of the water volume travels leading the original path of the river to slowly dry up as ever more sediment settles at the blockage. The Nile did this several times in the history of dynastic Egypt causing the civilisation to uproot and relocate to the most ideal area. The real wonder is why the Indus Valley Civilisation did not simply do the same - albeit it is not impossible that they simply could not locate the changed path as it had diverted further upstream than was commonly known or recorded.

First we used to say that the Indus Valley civilization is one of the oldest civilizations or should I say one of the earliest civilizations in the region until the discovery of another city in Balochistan in the town of Mehergarh by a British archaeological team back in 1973. The carbon dating revealed that the Mehergarh civilization is much older than the Indus Valley civilization. The Mehergarh was near an ancient river which does not exists anymore. Fascinating!! However, nobody has established a reason for the decline and disappearance of the Indus Valley civilization. So for the narrator to conclude it was because of attacks by Aryan nomads is nothing but imagination and misleading.
I thought that theory had been debunked. The villages do not show evidence of violence, nor are there skeletons everywhere. Well, except for the ones found in Mohenjodaro and there are not enough there to prove a battle. It is more likely they moved on because there were too many lean years with not enough meltwater to support their crops. It was surmised that at first they likely moved to other villages and then moved onward to their new home. People do it even in our time, so it seems not to surprising.
That's a work for egg heads in an office rather than expeditionary work. The problem is that unlike Linear A where we can at least infer the symbol sounds from the Linear B/Mycenaean Greek translation effort, there is no likewise later symbol system that closely resembles Indus Script. Even knowing what Linear B means we still don't understand the so called Minoan language that Linear A was written in.

Hi, those ruins are significantly helpful in determining the future economy of the country. Thanks for sharing the video 👍
Mohenjadaro was the Manhattan of it's time 😀
True.
It remains an intriguing question as to how such an important civilizational remnant was agreed to go to the other side of the border and as to who made the decision! And Saaz Aggarwal mentions in her book that Sindh was a 'casteless society' !.Very strange. Probably needs further study!
Thank you so much to the channel.
People who deny climate change need to study history. It has, and will continue, to shape human progress and decline.
Yeah, I get your point..why we humans must know what we cannot know, yet we say we do is strange. Whatever is plausible so we can know is the way it goes. I appreciate truth and fact but not everyone is about it. I believe people who do the guessing game with history to have too much time on their hands and they will to "follow their own hearts" to believe what is plausible..yet fabricated. The language of the Indus civilisation is the Tamil language.
- archeological evidence had been unearthed and scientifically dated from the various archeological findings in Tamil Nadu; particularly from the Keezhadi excavations findings of Indus civilisation seals, pictography and it' progression to Graffitti writings, to ancient Tamil script Thamizhi.
- genetical evidence had been established, from the DNA sequencing of the female and male skeletons unearthed at Rakhigarhi (an Indus Civilisation site) north west India, that the Tamils are the genetical descendants of the Indus Civilisation people (whose skeletons had been DNA-ed earlier).

Who? Evidence for this will come one day.

Original: Ancient Civilizations Uncovered (2017) Episode 1 Lost Ancient Trading City, Indus Civilization. 👍🤲🌹🙏
Yeah this channel just uploads existing old documentaries with a new thumbnail.
British archeolist done great work to Indian civilization.❤❤❤❤❤
First we used to say that the Indus Valley civilization is one of the oldest civilizations or should I say one of the earliest civilizations in the region until the discovery of another city in Balochistan in the town of Mehergarh by a British archaeological team back in 1973. The carbon dating revealed that the Mehergarh civilization is much older than the Indus Valley civilization. The Mehergarh was near an ancient river which does not exists anymore. Some Biblical scholars tried to prove the flood story from the ruins of Mehergarh that it was buried under mud because of a great flood.
the flood story is mesopotania , it was found by an archaeolist here, he proves it the most convincing argument i have found, he traced the four rivers, some dried out like this one, but he showed the trail of river stones Watch this episode of 'Expedition Bible as Joel travels across Saudi Arabia in search of The Lost River of Eden'. Here on youtube, I love following his journeys in Middle East, he goes to every site, and proves the location with archaelogy, best up to date research.
Proud to be a Sindhi💕
Proud to be Slavic Arian. What is a meaning Veda in yours language?
Any linebacker would be envious of those shoulder pads on his suit 😊
Most of the Hindu culture emerged form the Indus civilization sites in Present day Punjab and Sindh which are now in Pakistan. Sadly no hindu left there today. That land of hindus now fully converted to Islam. Pakistan has nothing to do with the Indus culture. Shameful that Hindus were forced to divide their country and give to big parts to Muslims.
Amazing documentary about Indus valley civilization ❤
My thoughts are filled only with how people lived peacefully?
Quite interesting to hear there's no war and usage of destructive tools at all🦋🌈
People might have lived a heavenly life..
Harappa, Ganeriwala, and Mohenjo-daro was in modern-day Pakistan
Salute to those oldest civilised people

Excellent!
Has any archeologal expedition been able to translate the Happarran language yet?
That's a work for egg heads in an office rather than expeditionary work.
The problem is that unlike Linear A where we can at least infer the symbol sounds from the Linear B/Mycenaean Greek translation effort, there is no likewise later symbol system that closely resembles Indus Script.
Even knowing what Linear B means we still don't understand the so called Minoan language that Linear A was written in.

Need to find a Rosetta Stone but matches native Brahmi texts the most.
Believed to be those letters Tamil letters and words but not proven yet base on my studyied
Excellent
That statuette of the man wearing a garment baring one shoulder reminds me of similar garments worn much later by philosophers in Greece and Rome. Could there be any connection or is it just a coincidence?
There will be some connection. It cannot be a coincidence.
Generally ancient tribal people wear this kind of garment. Even today we can see indigenous tribes in india, Africa and Mayan people wear this type of garment and it is similar to traditional wear in many states of India such as tamilnadu, Kerala, meghalaya etc.
@@99technology I'm very interested in research on the possible connections between all those ancient to modern cultures, such as historical contacts, trade, invasions, alliances, political systems, technology, architecture, graphic arts, literature, religion, and languages.
Yes, the ancient Greeks were Israelites ie Shemites and the classical Greeks were a mixed group of Black people and Caucasians with Caucasians being in the minority. See Anacalypsis by G Higgins. World history is Black history. Shalawam
I would like to know where did they found the seals. Nobody talks about that: Tombs, storage spaces, houses?
Who said Saraswati is a mythical river?
It is not mythical but it is a river in iran where the bmac people migrated to from somewhere in Central asia and then came into India long after indus valley civilization was defunct. So it wouldn't have been called saraswati in that time cuz the iranic speaking people where not there to name it that.
Saraswathi river mentioned in Rigveda which is written in Indo European language Sanskrit
Indian myths are only stories. no reality
Mahabharata and Ramayana are fiction stories , nothing to do with reality
Saraswathi river is a myth written in Indo European language

Vedic Hinduism and Modern Hinduism are vastly different.
The former even allowed cow meat to be offered as Prasad, there are mentions of it in Rigveda. They also commited an Ashwamedha ritual of burning a horse alive to please Gods.
The modern Hinduism adopted elements from Jainism of Vegetarianism.
The ancient Indians were a different class of people.
indus valley is preVedic.. no hindu religion..
@@javedsultan4830 Modern Hindu religion actually came into existence from 7th century after Adi Shankaracharya.
Previous to that the Vedic Religion was practiced in Northern Syria and pockets of Southern Anatolia (today Kurdistan). That's just why a lot of upper caste Brahmins have that gene pool.
@@abc_cba Is there actually any evidence of , whereto was the vedic religion practiced, except ofcourse India?
True that
@@farkhandaowais Yes.
It was during the ancient Mittani Empire that Vedic Religion -Hinduism- was ! Guess where it was ?
Anatolia (aka Southern Turkey, Northern Syria).
Even Sanskrit if you know was written in Brahmi script and Kharosthi script which were developed from Aramaic Alphabet system (the mother language of Hebrew, Nabatean, Arabic, Ge'ez).
All the modern archaeogenetics, proves that modern Brahmins are of Armenian/Median/Persian/Central Steppe origin. They've even plotted their haplotypes to be more European than that with some frequencies reaching over 90% of their hapotypes and haplogroups.
Then these Aryans started moving into Indus river basin and the already living population of Dravidians who lived there were considered "untouchables" because of their dark skin, these Dravidians gave rise to Indus Valley Civilization.
Some groups bifurcated into Hinduism and started moving inwards and intermarrying the women of the Dravidian people.
That's why even the mt-DNA of most Indian women is Haplotype H which is indigenous to Indian population alone.
I also detail you on how the modern Arabs are not even the true Arabs !!!
If you're into such reality and science based interactions, you can add me over WhatsApp, I can detail you a hell lot on it as I'm a Data Scientist and my perspective is not based on religion but on actual data that we have at our disposal.
Drink from the Ganges and you'll see your God sooner than you think! 😅

Also due to dessert area and no agriculture area these site were escavated but I am sure there were other civilization along with infuse one on east side ganga river in south India also just that due to heavy populations and agriculture other arew of indian subcontinent we have still not discovered other civilizations of india
And what happens to Ganges as the glaciers in the Himalaya melt?
@@kitefan1 when glaciers in Himalaya melt not just Ganges, all the rivers of India, China, Pakistan will dissappear.
@@aasamspb967 Yes, I wasn't sure it was all. I saw a documentary where the people living in the Himalaya where building a sort of ice tree or hill so that they themselves would have local water, but that won't help the big rivers.
@@kitefan1 I don't know about China and Pakistan. But I forgot about India. India has another set of river system that is not part of the Himalayan rivers.
In southern India, we have monsoon fed rivers originating from Western and Eastern Ghats which has nothing to do with Himalayas. Those rivers are quite big but it does not have the amount of water given by the Himalayan rivers. Population in South India is significantly lesser than North India so the water in those rivers are enough for the South Indian people.
But if Himalayas dried up then all the people in North India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh will be in danger.
@@aasamspb967 Thanks. Not my best geography area.
