    The way Robert Patrick runs in this scene is amazing. He gives the appearance of something not human. He’s cold. He’s alien. He’s expressionless. 100% killing machine. It totally gives off and eerie vibe.

    Robert Patrick trained himself to shoot a gun without blinking, run with the illusion that he’s not breathing, and run so well that he looks inhuman. That is such dedication god damn. ( fun fact: in the galleria scene, they actually had to tell Robert to run slower because he kept catching up to the dirt bike. That’s how dedicated he was. It was almost as if he wasn’t acting at all ).

    Robert Patrick trained to sprint as fast as he could without breathing heavy. He got so good at this that he doesn't even look to be breathing at all in any of these scenes.
    That's why the 1st two Terminator movies were so successful and so beloved, they weren't just obvious cash grabs like all the other movies that followed, their plots still made sense, and all of the actors put in career performances!

      To top it off, when they shot this scene and the other when John escaped on his moped, both times Robert was catching up to both vehicles. They weren't driving super-fast, so as to add to the tension, but he kept running too fast, so the scenes had to be reshot a few times. So not only did he get a good breathing technique, he more or less became one of the better runners/sprinters in the world, I think. Top 1000-100ish. At least for movie purposes.

    What I love about the first 2 movies especially is that you can tell they are, at their core, pretty much horror movies despite being among the best action movies ever made.
    You can tell Skynet, in this movie in particular, wasn't messing around.... No plot convenient escapes or excuses, no flaws in logic or common sense, John just isn't in the background somewhere while the terminators are having some over-the-top debris smashing Super Hero fight with CGI... You can tell that the T-1000 is doing EVERYTHING it can to kill John, no exceptions.
    Its not playing fair, its not suddenly forgetting about abilities it has that should close the distance or realistically end the fight sooner, it is simply doing everything it can to accomplish its mission with machine-like tunnel vision and that is absolutely TERRIFYING.

    • @GoblinKnightLeo
      @GoblinKnightLeo 4 года назад +182

      One plot convenience I found was that the T-1000 didn't simply cut the elevator cable in the previous scene. It was probably capable of doing so, and that would have probably injured the humans it was trying to kill. That said, maybe it just wasn't smart enough to think of that.

    One of my favorite details about this scene is the J-turn they eventually have to make: They know they'll never escape without it and so does the audience; we're all just waiting for that paramount moment of turning the car around and praying that the T-1000 won't catch them when it happens.
    The fact that they have to reverse their way out of the garage makes this chase so exciting.

A statue, the floor/ceiling, a mirror, one of your Resistance "allies" calling for help on the radio. The possibilities are endless! 😎

    One thing that T2 gets very, very right. Is that the moment they come face to face, there is a short staredown at first, giving us the time to realise the imminent encounter and really let it sink in. Then for added suspense, the T-1000 gracefully phases through the metal bars (with the famous stuck pistol) and now, there's no barrier between the good guys and the bad guy. And thats when the action kicks - predictable at first, but it quickly ramps up to a chase, to a ceiling spike, to a desperate attempt to slow it down to no effect, only to end up with the T-1000 coming the closest its ever been to inflicting mortal injury on John. And that's when Arnold jumps in with two well aimed shotgun blasts at point blank range. A totally believable ending to a panicked action scene that had a fantastic and unnerving setup and went from frightening to violent to desperate real fast.
