It has been scientifically proven that Norbit adjusted the seat however.
T2 is the masterpiece, but Cameron's "Aliens" has a much better setting and vibes.

This is one of those rare movies that never ceases to amaze me even to this day.. A true gem of a movie no matter which scene you watch...
I could spend a whole watching this and the first film just to see the special effects work. Don't mind to put them on loop.

I still don't know how they did that stunt at 2:54 where the stuntman jumps from the truck and rolls across the floor. That's an incredibly dangerous stunt if done for real. It looks completely seamless and it looks like it was done for real. If it's a computer effect, I can't tell. Brilliant action direction
I'm often considered to be "too young to enjoy old films," but I honestly prefer films like Terminator 1 and 2 to most modern movies.

Ironically enough, the place they filmed the climax in was actually bought, then closed down by the Chinese a few years earlier but it was in good enough condition to film there, also the furnace's molten metal is just water

James Cameron is a genius. Thats all i got to say. Nobody could have done this in 1991. To explain this concept to his team and to bring this quality to screen and to move the movie at incredible pace scene by scene. Truly an impressive feat. The editing of the action sequences are masterclass.

I do feel Roger Rabbit was a step in the direction towards this film 3 years earlier. Judge Doom's unkillable qualities in the ending were also similar to the T-1000s.
I agree. Ugh to have seen this in the theaters when it first came out was the real prize. I'm so sad that I couldn't experience that. I was only 3 then 🙄
@@cartersmom0629 It was almost exhausting watching it in 1991. No one had ever seen anything so intense. You felt like the movie had beaten you up and left you bruised and battered in your seat. They said Aliens was intense, but this made Aliens look like a walk in the park.

Seeing it in 4K makes you appreciate how much realistic it looks. Even compared to today’s CGI. Which would probably make this look quite obvious fake. Props to Stan Winston for working his magic on this masterpiece.
Let's not forget the practical effects. These were also fantastic!
There's no actual CGI in this clip. It's all practical effects. CGI was used pretty exclusively for the T-1000's shapeshifting abilities.

Visual effects better than nowadays
well yeah today it's mostly cgi garbage, back then CGI was barely taking off in earnest
I love the blue/chromatic cinematography in this movie. And exactly in this scene the blue vs red palette of colors is so perfectly applied!
Yeah the look of this film was fantastic. I also like other films where they use a dominant color throughout. The Matrix used alot of Green hues and David Fincher tends to have alot of Yellow and Blue in his films.

There’s a lot of similarities with T1 & Alien and T2 & Aliens. Both first films are both more horror led with darker tones. Both sequels are more action focused and both have the same blue hues throughout.

With both first films leaning into the horror aspects with darker tones and visual styles, plus having a higher kill count for the main villain, and both sequels focusing more with the action, main villains being ruthless, intelligent, merciless, and equally terrifying and intimidating as its predecessor, and similar blue visual styles.

I love how genuinely surprised the T1000 looks when his hand breaks off. They're emotionless killing machines but there is some lifelike qualities to them
The novelization of the movie indicates that the T-1000 is actually self aware and barely under Skynet's control. It's only natural it feels a sort of elitism over inferior models and shows surprise when genuinely under physical threat.

You have to keep in mind that Terminators are advanced Artificial intelligence so much to the point that they like skynet have become sentient beings in their own right and as so they too become self aware of things just as humans and one of those things is their individual desire to not lose or have their own existence come to an end
Even the T-800 didn’t want to be terminated but he made that sacrifice for John and all other humans because he knew and understood the importance and value of life

My man emptied the whole clip into the T1000's face, jumps to get a grip of the steering wheel, turns the steering wheel to make rhe truck flip.
Such a badass sequence. The action in this movie is absolutely top notch. Epitome of a action movie.

@@owieri not sure that's true. I thought this as a kid when I watched it, but now it seems plausible that it could've has the capacity to defrost itself shortly. It did similar acts of molecular self control earlier. Shooting it did severe damage to it, which eventually gave a window for it to be destroyed later.
The choice was made as an effort to destroy the T-1000, not slow it, however the machine does begin to malfunction after it reforms
@owieri I always though about what would happen if Arnold picked up half the severed T-1000 and threw him in the vat of molten steel whether they'd be left to contend with a mini T-1000.

Most of this scene is done with practical effects and real stunt work, unlike modern films that rely entirely on CGI. The thought and care put into this film is still untouchable. That's why the film holds up so well. Stop motion, rear projection, puppetry, stunt work, these are all old school techniques which James Cameron utilized perfectly but he did it better than almost anybody else

1:40 To me that is the single most terrifying shot in the whole film. Imagine looking in your rear view window, and seeing that barreling towards you. It’s like something straight out of Duel.
“Terminator 2” and “Jurassic Park” really make you appreciate practical effects.
Especially in the early 90s.
Jurassic Park has the scene where the T-Rex moving towards the light in the first car. The seamless transition from practical animatronic to full moving CGI body.
AND the cgi of the early 90s. Rarely see anything that looks better, even today.
This is the epitome of an action movie. Everything from the cinematography, the originality and the conception of the scene and the outcome of events, the soundtrack, the grounded movement and performance of the characters. If there is perfection in something so arbitrary and subjective then this is it. I personally believe the main reason most movies feel lucklaster nowadays is that:
1. The camera movement and cuts are happenng way to often
2. The CGI use is used more absurdly and its aparent
3. They do not use wide shots often, as if they constantly try to mislead u of the doubles and whatnot
4. They give A LOT emphasis on the constant action whereas simple pauses and exhales in between increase the tension and make the action more believable/suspensfull.
For example you clearly take a look at the Terminator getting it's gun, reloading, aiming etc. He also is not in a hurry when he is going to shoot the frozen T-1000. These are key moments where not only the action is suspended in time it seems much more likeable to happen. It seems REAL and authentic, things that are lacking in movies nowadays.
The only movie I can recall that I equally enjoyed and I consider it one of the top of it's class it's Dredd. Much less budget and staff but I think it contains one of the most consistant of well-crafted action scenes in the past 10 years.

@@ec7888 I did not refer to a specific scene. It is just well-crafter as a whole with attention to detail. It is deffinitely not as ambitious as T2 but it is well-thought throughtout and Dredd is constantly stays focused, reloads his gun, uses his gadgets etc...
Watched this movie so many times in my childhood. I still cry at the ending because of the music. Eighties, Nineties were the best times in humanity.

I love that when the T800 is thrown off the truck you briefly see sparks fly when his knee scrapes the concrete, which ties in with him limping afterwards.
Damn this movie is an absolute masterpiece!

some may not realise, that the stuntman (Peter Kent) actually went from the pickup to the truck cab without harness , wires or supports while moving at speed down the road.

The T - 1000 freezing over is still the best visual effects that i have ever seen in a movie to date - 31 years on in 2022 when this film was released. Astonishing !
I saw this film at the cinema in England in 1991 when it first came out, I was 17 years old.
The effect on the audience was incredible; people were gasping, screaming, cheering, the atmosphere was absolutely electrifying. In over 30 years of being a regular movie-goer since then, I've never seen an audience reaction like that I did on that night. T2 would be a highly impressive masterpiece even if it came out today, back then it was mind-blowing!

Little details that a lot of directors of action films ignore now-a-days. Watch the entire chase scene, notice that the direction of movement never completely switches. It's always from right to left. The shots of the vehicles going straight towards the camera or directly away are considered direction neutral. So what I mean by it not switching is that it never goes from right to left to left to right between scenes. It might seem like a minor thing, but actually it helps your mind keep track of where everyone is in relation to each other and it keeps the film going in a consistent direction. It's almost an art that is starting to get lost. A lot of modern films ignore this because it can be more difficult to get good shots of all of the actors' faces if they maintain this rule. And apparently star power and showing the actors' faces are more important than anything else now-a-days... But James Cameron is a master of the craft and when you watch his movies closely you see this.

The first movie mastered the feeling of hopelessness and fear. This movie managed to maintain it with an indestructible robot with the good guys and managed to keep the hopelessness of how will they destroy that robot with a new more innovative robot. Kudos

If you watch the extended version, the T1000 starts to glitch after reassembling itself. They took these bits out of the final cut, which I thought was a mistake: it gave you a sense that the T1000 could indeed be defeated, somehow.
i would have picked up all the fragmented pieces and mailed them to random locations around the world so that he couldnt recombine, i would have ensured that i mailed them via refrigerated storage LOL
T-800 did not know exact specs of T-1000 he shoot him with intention to destroy it. It did partially worked as mentioned by others T-1000 start experiencing multiple defects in his system after the reassembly. I think it was important point of the movie and it's a pity that it was cut from the theatrical release. I bet James Cameron did not want to show any vulnerability of the T-1000 until the very end. Most directors would be satisfied with the T-1000 death at that point but not James Cameron.
2:11 all action scenes are excellent but I recall watching this scene as a 13 year old kid back in the day. Damnn this shooting scene truly stuck in my memory. The things the Terminator do to keep the mother and child alive. Incredible.
It's the most satisfying shootouts in movie history. The way he unloads a whole M16 cartridge at point-blank range, it's like peeling off the tape of your brand new television..... Hmmmmmmmmm.....

Always loved the tuck and roll by the T-800. A human could never do it but a robot with no organs and hypermobility in every joint and he can become a sonic ball lol. The attention to detail and depth is just incredible in this movie.

That would be a great idea but for the T-800 there would have been a risk that it would get frozen damaged in the process plus it would have been anticlimactic as hell.
3:20 - the forklift tine through the window of the truck! I've probably watched this movie 20 times and I've never noticed that. This is why the movie feels so great. It's packed with 100s of little details like this that you don't notice but your brain picks up.

Everyone who works with Cameron tells he's a ruthless perfectionist and you can see what that brings when watching such scenes. He visually creates nothing short of sheer perfection.
I just will never get over how good this movie looks.. To this day, the special effects are still great, even though it's over 30 yers old now.. Just blows my mind.

That line and scene with T-1000 breaking to pieces is just so absolutely legendary, even people who haven't watched the movie will instantly recognize it.

I saw this at the theater the week it opened in ‘91. To this day, probably the best movie I ever saw theatrically.
I bet nothing beat the peoples' reactions back then. Back before people were so saturated with special effects and so dumbed down with weird TV shows, movies, and music.
Whats incredible about Jim Cameron is his confidence of vision.
His DP had said "I was hoping it turned out on screen the way we shot it" and Cameron replied with some surprise that "I knew it'd turn out exactly the way we shot it."

Love that this chase is basically a supercharged version of the final car chase scene in T1. Both sides start out strong with plenty of firepower and speed only to knock each other out halfway through, the targets switch to a slower mode of transport while the antagonistic Terminators commandeer a semi to ratchet up tension, explosives are used against the Terminators, and the chase ends with the semis being spectacularly wrecked and the Terminators temporarily disable. They even reimagined the semi crash in T2 as icey as opposed to fiery in T1.
I remember going to see this movie in the theater with my dad and grandpa. Boy we had a great time, we left completely blown away
This movie was way ahead of its time. Love this movie as a kid and still rock this movie from time 2 time .

It's not just the practical effects (really ramming the truck into the guard rail) or the actors (no one has that cold stare like Robert Patrick), it's also the music. Many movies today are sorely lacking in good music that puts you in the moment. Good composers know how to use music to not only set the mood, but play with your emotions and your feelings.
Listen to this scene again and follow how the music continues to gradually increase in speed and beat, right up to the end when it finally stops. You might just be holding your breath when the terminator pulls out his pistol and delivers that line.
I loved those blue night scenes from late 80s and early 90s movies... so good and moody. Miss them dearly today.
Its actually by design, the terminator scenes have blue lighting, while the human scenes have golden yellow lighting
It's amazing how much of this movie's themes are missed by pop culture. Hasta Las Vista Baby is treated in parody like the most bad ass line ever, but in the context of the movie it's showing that the terminator has become more human. It takes th typical 80s/90s action hero one liner and makes it character development.

How this movie's video quality and details are still better than most of today's movies are beyond me.
Betcha if you showed this movie to someone who's never heard of a Terminator movie, they'd think this was from the early 2000's easily

When I watched the movie Terminator-1 as a kid in the 90s, I almost fainted from fright. It was the first time in my life that I saw a fighting robot. now i'm watching it with the cookie but i still remember the first movie
Absolutely a classic. I watched this movie when i was 10 years old and enjoy every momments of it.
I was 11 back in 1991 and went to see it in the theaters with my dad and my brother.
